Christy Stevens is a filmmaker from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Her father was a mechanic and motorcycle shop owner, and her mother was a public school office assistant. She has a younger brother. As a child, Christy taught herself how to use a 35mm camera, learning how to shoot and expose film by the time she was 10 years old. As a teenager, she earned money by shooting senior portraits for her friends during the summers. It was during this time she learned the basics of video, often spending weekends in the Outer Banks of North Carolina making short surf videos with friends. In college, she began photographing weddings, which quickly turned into making wedding films. As a film major at Old Dominion University, Christy explored the many facets of filmmaking, and initially committed herself solely to cinematography. She graduated college in 2016, and for a short period, she worked as a part-time cameraman at WHRO, a public radio and TV station.
