Ever since Pokémon Horizons began its run, the new anime series has displayed some determination to modify the formulas that we became used to in the previous anime series that ran for two decades. One of the biggest changes was to include a time jump to age up its main characters, and one shocking twist was to kill one of its main characters. With its latest episodes, however, Pokémon Horizons decided to backtrack the latter — Professor Friede (voiced by Taku Yashiro in the original Japanese and by Crispin Freeman in the English dub) is surprisingly back from the dead.
The reveal was made in the series' 100th episode, titled "We Are The Rising Volteccers!" which kicked off with a Pokémon battle with the first-gen Tauros. The episode is a turning point in the series because it marks the re-ignition of the Rising Volt Tacklers — a group of explorers that travel...

It takes thoughtfulness to create a quirky female love interest in anime without falling into any annoying stereotypes. Their traits should be nuanced. There's a difference between a character who is very animated and goofy because they have niche interests and a fun sense of humor, and a character who is goofy for drama or fan service.
A well-written quirky girl or woman feels more like an eccentric individual than the tired "not like the other girls" trope. Eccentric love interests may have secret identities, or have a unique way of expressing creativity. Some have very granulated interests, like Maomao of The Apothecary Diaries, whose astute scientific mind leads her to enjoy ingesting poisons.

There are many popular anime titles across demographics and genre, and they certainly earn their praise. But with so many wonderful new anime titles gaining recognition and a wide viewership, there are some amazing series that get a little lost in the shuffle. These titles may be B-side titles, but real fans of their genre will see them as diamonds in the rough.
Stories like The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent have cross-genre appeal, but that may make it somewhat hard to market. It's unapologetically romantic, yet there's plenty of adventure, magic, and world-building. Cozy, comforting shows like Laid-Back Camp were really popular at the start, but fanfare has quieted down, even with the release of newer seasons that are just as good as the first.

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! is the funniest isekai series of all time. It features one of the most frustratingly lovable cast of characters, a world filled with mystery, and some of the best writing in anime, all genres included. When Satou Kazuma is transported to his new world, he's allowed to bring any one thing with him. When the Goddess Aqua laughs at him during this process, he decides to take her instead, creating a hilarious dynamic within the first episode.
To be a great show like KonoSuba, an isekai series needs to have some element of humor. It also needs to have good animation, and at least decent writing. While no show can truly compare with KonoSuba's outrageous humor, some can get close. Still, there are plenty of isekai series out there that are great for anyone who loves watching Kazuma, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin bumble their way to success.

Overlord is a popular isekai series that marries brutality and humor to create a hilarious show that's not afraid of exploring darker themes. The star at the center of the series is Ainz Ooal Gown. He's left alone in the video game Yggdrasil, but before he was trapped, he was one of the strongest characters in the game. Now he's alone with only his NPCs to keep him company. After discovering his new situation, he set out to dominate the entire world in the hopes that he could find another person like him.
To be a good Overlord isekai comparison, a show doesn't need to be as dark and funny as Overlord, but it certainly doesn't hurt. The best shows like Overlord will have smart companions to guide the main character, an interesting world filled with the promise of adventure, and a broken protagonist with powers so absurd, they stand...

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is one of the best isekai series of all time. It features one of the biggest and richest worlds in isekai, great, well-rounded characters, and an incredibly divisive main character in Rudeus Greyrat. The story of Mushoku Tensei spans Rudy's entire life, starting with his reincarnation into the new world as a baby and leaving no stone unturned. Rudeus begins the story as a baby, eventually goes to magic college, and even begins a family of his own. While not many other animes are like it, there are a few that could be considered worthy comparisons.
To be a good Mushoku Tensei comparison, a show doesn't need to be an isekai, but it doesn't hurt. The biggest qualities a series in common with Mushoku Tensei would have would be its thorough worldbuilding, a great cast of side characters, and a deep, meaningful story that doesn't leave...

One of the hottest anime of the Summer 2024 season is Suicide Squad Isekai, as it reimagines already beloved DC villains into the anime genre and sets them free into a fantasy world full of chaotic possibilities. And the unfortunate soul who ends up playing the glorified babysitter to this league of deadly (yet equally charming) criminals is Rick Flag, who the anime revamps into a good-natured and puppy-eyed soft boy.
Suicide Squad Isekais Rick Flag may be the best version of him yet, as hes not only given a visually appealing redesign, but his character is also fleshed out into an endearing, hilarious, and inspiring leading figure in a show that really doesn't want to see him or his team come out on top. He is an enduring personality worthy of the title of anime's newest husbando.

A ten-episode original series “Suicide Squad Isekai,” produced by Warner Bros. Japan’s Anime Production and Wit Studio, will premiere on HBO Go later this month.
The show is an anime (Japanese-style animation) adaptation spawned by the DC Comics universe. It places DC characters including Harley Quinn, The Joker, and the Suicide Squad in new stories. The Japanese word ‘Isekai’ translates into English as ‘another world.’
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. confirmed that it will be increasing the number of such anime adaptations in Asia.
“We have a Japanese anime studio, which has been producing five or ten anime series per year, over the last few years,” said James Gibbons, Wbd president of Asia-Pacific in March. “We’ve approved expansion to take that to more than ten series per year.”
The studio has been operational since 2011 and delivered over 80 titles in that span, a mix of high-quality anime, live action series and movies.

The Pokémon franchise is entering uncharted waters with its newest series, Pokémon Horizons. While most folks will know that Pokémon Horizons is the first iteration of the long-running anime to exclude iconic lead character Ash, there are plenty more ways the newest Pokémon iteration not only sets itself apart from its predecessors but makes inventive choices that help to establish Horizons as an entirely fresh experience for fans of the Pokémon canon.
Pokémon Horizons moves away from the familiar trainer-collecting-gym-badges Pokémon tropes, making way for the series to successfully delve into unexplored themes, characters, and storytelling styles. The series' ability to anchor its audience with familiar elements from the Pokémon universe like training pursuits and Poké Balls while expanding on its in-world import, all while introducing a new cast of characters and titular pocket monsters is not just an impressive feat, but an undeniable truth that is keeping fans waiting...

Pokemon: Horizons introduces a story-driven plot with compelling antagonists, refreshing the series formula for a more engaging experience. The new show focuses on the characters Liko and Roy, each with their own story arcs and mysteries, adding depth to the overarching plot. The addition of the Explorers as villains, along with the Rising Volt Tacklers, brings a new level of tension and intrigue to the series.
The new and refreshing entry into the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon: Horizons, has been a surprising delight for fans, and that is due in part to one specific thing that the show is doing even better than the original anime, Pokémon: The Series. After 25 seasons following Ash Ketchum in his race to become a Pokémon master, the franchise finally bid a fond farewell to Ash, Pikachu, and the rest of the enjoyable cast in the show. Anime reboots can sometimes be far-fetched ideas since a studio would rather make a new anime series based on a popular manga than produce a completely new version of an already poorly regarded one. If it were so simple, we could have a slew of much-needed reboots, such as Tokyo Ghoul and Rosario Vampire. The good news is that Rurouni Kenshin, a classic anime series that, despite a few shortcomings, emerged as one of the best anime shows, is getting a remake this year.
Even though the Rurouni Kenshin franchise has spanned an anime series with 94 episodes and a highly successful live-action movie series that ended in 2021 with Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part II - The Beginning, it is planning to deliver fans with another intriguing one with a rebooted version of the original.
