We have some excerpts from a brilliant panel discussion featuring Vikramaditya Motwane, Nikkhil Advani, Sudip Sharma, Shubh Shivdasani, Salona Bains Joshi, and Prime Video heads, held at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves).

At the panel ‘Taking the Leap: Storytelling from India, by India, for the World’, held at Waves, some of the industry’s biggest filmmakers indulged in a conversation on creating Indian content that resonates with global audiences. The conversation also delved into how streaming is continuing to change content creation in India.

“With streaming services like Prime Video, filmmakers now have creative freedom and can think beyond just that two hours in a movie theater,” said Vikramaditya Motwane, who created and directed the series Jubilee.

With overwhelming love from viewers, Prime Video and Bombay Film Cartel Llp have officially commenced development of the second season of Dupahiya.

Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani created and executive produced the first season, which was created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.

In a droll season of self-important crime thrillers and soporific family fiestas Dupahiya, now streaming on Amazon, is a blessing. And not even in disguise. There is not a single moment of artifice in the entire length and breadth of the series. It is normal to skip portions of lengthy serials; time, after all, is valuable. If you miss any chunk of this peachy fable of a bride, a wedding, and missing mo’bike, you will do so at your own risk.

Firstly, my compliments to the chef and the writers Avinash Dwivedi, Chirag Garg, Salona Bains Joshi, and Shubh Shivdasani for a screenplay that simply rocks. For those of us who believe that too many cooks spoil the broth, here is proof to the contrary. Crackling hissing writing is so original and game-changing that I thought I would never get to see it on the Indian Ott platform.

Prime Video is revving up its Indian originals slate with “Dupahiya,” a heartland comedy series that blends small-town charm with a quirky caper.

The nine-episode series, which marks the debut production from Bombay Film Cartel banner, follows the mayhem that erupts in the fictional village of Dhadakpur when a prized motorcycle goes missing just as the community is about to celebrate 25 years of being crime-free. The show’s title “Dupahiya” translates to “two-wheeler” in Hindi.

Helmed by Sonam Nair, the series features veteran actors Gajraj Rao (“Badhaai Ho”) and Renuka Shahane (“Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!”) alongside rising stars Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi and character actor Yashpal Sharma.

RSVP has announced a new film, a horror-comedy titled Kakuda. The Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha and Saqib Saleem starrer has begun filming.

Kakuda also marks the Hindi directorial debut of filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar, the man behind critically acclaimed Marathi films like – ‘Classmates’, ‘Mauli’ and ‘Faster Fene’.

Kakuda, with equal doses of comedy and spook, explores the legend of a strange curse in a village stuck in time. The eclectic trio are confronted with a challenging ghost who makes them question superstition, tradition and even love in a rollercoaster ride filled with fear and fun.

The film has been written by the talented duo Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg and was developed from a nascent stage by Salona Bains Joshi, the Associate Producer on the film.

Talking about the film, director Aditya Sarpotdar says, “I’m very excited to collaborate with Ronnie Screwvala. We are treating the film like nothing short of a big-scale commercial movie.

Former Disney, DreamWorks and Twentieth Century Fox executive Tim Erickson has been named executive VP of brand Peanuts Worldwide, reporting into Eric Ellenbogen, CEO of WildBrain, the majority owner of Peanuts. Working together with the family of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, WildBrain’s content and management teams and brand co-owners Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), Erickson will be responsible for sustaining a strategy supporting brand marketing and leveraging new content launches to expand the global presence of the Peanuts brand and build momentum towards its 75th anniversary in 2025. Erickson will be based in New York.

Erickson most recently held the position of COO at the media company GoldieBlox, and prior to that as senior VP of global licensing and operations at Twentieth Century Fox, preceded by the position of global head of licensing and operations at DreamWorks. He also spent several years driving consumer products and sales strategies at Disney and Lego.

Tejas is the story of a daring and fierce fighter pilot, played by Kangana Ranaut. The Indian Air Force was the first of the country’s defence forces to induct women into combat roles in 2016. The film takes inspiration from this landmark event.

Written to evoke a sense of pride and most importantly inspire the youth of our nation, this mission based film takes us through some of the most challenging combat missions our forces undertake in their effort to keep our country safe from terrorism.

Written and to be directed by Sarvesh Mewara, this is another RSVP film after Uri: The Surgical Strike that salutes the armed forces and aims to inspire the country at large.

Kangana Ranaut stars in the Air Force saga Tejas, and on Friday it was announced that the film will go on floors in December. The actress plays a fighter pilot in the film.
