Fox has officially canceled Outmatched.

The series follows a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to get by and raise four kids — three of whom are certified geniuses.

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.

The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.

Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.

From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet (La to Vegas), Outmatched harkened back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm In the Middle. It centered on a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Outmatched” after one season.

The news comes on the same day the network announced that it had renewed both “Last Man Standing” and “The Resident.” With the cancellation, the only Fox show awaiting word on its fate for next year is the freshman drama “Prodigal Son,” which sources say is likely to return.

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.

“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.

The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

Beautiful Boy, directed by Felix van Groeningen, faces stiff competition as the Armageddon to Peter Hedges’ Ben is Back, the equivalent to that of Deep Impact. A nonsensical and truly incomparable comparison, but undoubtedly the two have some similarities, and with having seen Hedges Ben is Back and now Groeningen’s film, it is undoubtedly clear that one of these films has won this none-existing war by a mile. As Beautiful Boy is a heart-breaking, sombre and brutal feature that puts you through every pain imaginable watching this tragic story unfold.

There is a lot to appreciate here, specifically the performances. Film Twitter darling Timothee Chalamet is breath-taking in his role as addict Nic Sheff.

Oakley Bull, who played Timothee Chalamet’s sister in “Beautiful Boy” and will appear in the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984,” has been cast in Fox’s comedy pilot “Geniuses.” The multi-camera series follows a blue-collar couple in South Jersey as they raise four kid-geniuses. Maggie Lawson will also star in the show as the family’s headstrong mom.

Real-life Beautiful Boy Nic Sheff and star Timothée Chalamet, 22, visited cities around the country over the weekend to promote their film and bring attention to addiction awareness.

In the film, the 22-year-old Chalamet portrays Nic Sheff, a young boy whose addiction to meth threatens to destroy him, as his father David, portrayed by Carell, desperately tries to help his son get clean.

Beautiful Boy is based on the books written by real-life father and son David and Nic Sheff, which details Nic’s addiction and recovery.

This looks like a very tender, intimate, heartbreaking but also somewhat uplifting film about a family and the challenges they have with a son addicted to methamphetamines. Beautiful Boy stars Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet as father and son David and Nic, dealing with their experiences of "survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years." The full cast includes Maura Tierney, Christian Convery, Oakley Bull, Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Ryan, Stefanie Scott, and Julian Works. This looks really wonderful, and like an emotional rollercoaster, but it has that tiny bit of hope that makes me smile. I love the way this trailer starts with such a strong scene, letting it play out.
