Born to a family of Ukrainian-Jewish descent in Omsk, Russia, Denis Semikin began showing interest in the diverse world of fine arts from an early age. In the pursuit of higher education, he later found himself in the United Kingdom. But despite having chosen biological science as his academic major, he ultimately opted for his innate desire to create instead. He moved to Los Angeles where he went on to study filmmaking, diving deep into cinema history and eventually becoming part of the global film community.
His creative versatility coupled with his obsessive attention to detail has subsequently resulted in a number of genre-bending projects, which have traveled various international film festivals over the years. As a writer-director, he often turns to exploring a multitude of timeless, culture-defying themes through his personal brand of black comedy as well as gripping social satire, marked by a touch of magical realism.
