Pulsar Content (“The Deep House”) has secured worldwide sales on “Dragon Princess,” an ambitious animated feature produced by Ankama, the thriving French studio behind the international franchises “Dofus” and “Wakfu.”

Directed by Jean-Jacques Denis (“Dofus”) and Anthony Roux, “Dragon Princess” tells the story of Bristle, a little girl who is being raised by dragons. When her father is forced to give up his second most valuable possession to Sorcerog, a witch frog, he offers up Bristle. Falling into despair, the little girl flees the family cave and embarks on a journey of discovery in the world of humans. Xavier Giannoli’s literary adaptation Lost Illusions leads the nominations of the 27th edition of France’s Lumière awards, followed by Audrey Diwan’s Venice Golden Lion winner Happening and Arthur Harari’s Onoda, 10,000 Nights In The Jungle.

The awards, which are voted on by 95 international correspondents hailing from 36 countries this year, are France’s equivalent of the Golden Globes.

France Televisions Unveils Animated Slate at Annecy

French public broadcaster France Televisions confirmed its status as one of Europe’s biggest financiers of animation during the Annecy Festival where it unveiled its wide-ranging slate during a press conference.

In 2020, which was marked by the pandemic and two lockdowns, the broadcaster invested €32 million ($38.4 million) in the production of French animated content, €2.3 million ($2.8 million) of which went into films. As much as 7,296 hours of animated content, 70% of which were original French productions, aired throughout the year.

France 4, the group’s channel which is dedicated to kids content, also saw its market share rise in 2020, with a peak of 24.5% of children under 15 in the afternoons, according to France Televisions.

Under the direction of long-time France Televisions executive Pierre Siracusa, France Televisions’ animation unit has been thriving with innovative shows that entertain children.and enlighten them in different ways.
