Image
Athletes push the boundaries of the human body further every day. Sci-fi visions often imagine what comes next—what if we could go beyond our natural limits? Bionic takes us to that thrilling frontier.

It’s the year 2035. Bionic limbs have revolutionized sports, granting superhuman speed and strength. Sisters Maria and Gabi grow up dreaming of glory on the track. But when a tragic turn relegates Maria to the sidelines, everything changes. Now Gabi soars with her bionic leg while Maria watches from the stands.

Desperate to reclaim her chance, Maria’s introduced to a shady group offering a way back in. But their methods come with risks and pull Maria deeper into their world. As the stakes rise from competition to danger, she must decide how far she’s willing to go.

Image
Welcome to the new era of Brazilian Cinema! The newest Netflix original film ‘Bionic’ (‘Biônicos’ in Portuguese) takes place in Brazil in the year 2035, where a highly technology dominated world is the backdrop of the dystopian thriller written by Josefina Trotta and directed by Afonso Poyart. In a reality where bionic prosthetics dictate the sporting scene, the rivalry between the Santos sisters takes them down a dark and mischievous path. ‘Bionic’ Netflix Review: A Film About Cybernetic Implants, Crime, & Athletics Is Unfortunately Boring
Image
Humans have wondered about the philosophical aspect of the relationship between mankind and technology via art, literature, and motion pictures since the advent of machines. This led to the rise of the cyberpunk genre with movies and shows such as Blade Runner, The Terminator, RoboCop, Inspector Gadget, Ghost in the Shell, I, Robot, Ex Machina, Alita: Battle Angel, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Love, Death & Robots, and Upgrade, which asked us to wonder whether or not an android can be as human as humans are. Through characters like Cyborg (from the DC comics), cybernetic implants and prosthetics have been used to comment on the future of people with physical impairments, which is a change that is already happening in real life. Bionic goes a step further and imagines a future where para-athletes with cybernetic implants are going to make able-bodied athletes obsolete. While it’s certainly an interesting concept, is the execution any good?...

“Invisible City” Season 2 on Netflix: An Original Brazilian Series Halfway Between Thriller and Fantasy
Image
Invisible City (Cidade Invisível) is a series directed by Júlia Pacheco Jordão and Luis Carone. It stars Marco Pigossi, Alessandra Negrini and Jéssica Córes.

The Invisible City is a very original fantasy and thriller series that knows how to swim wonderfully between the waters of the spiritual and criminal worlds, between the supernatural and the detective genre, and it also has an original aesthetic proposal.

About the Series

A murder thriller that gets lost in local legends, in the world of spirits and magic, and then presents us with a message of environmental conservation.

Very entertaining, well handled and accomplished visual effects (CGI), achieving an attractive series on several levels and one that knows how to continue the successes of the first season in these five new episodes.

It handles the photography very well, and – without losing the fantastic “touch” – knows how to give us a good, entertaining thriller so...
