How Plane Movie Simulated Its Storm On The Gimbal [Exclusive Clip]
Image
Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from Plane, which lands on 4K, Blu-ray, and On Demand on March 28. The well-received Lionsgate action film stars Gerard Butler as Brodie Torrance, a commercial airplane pilot who must use his leadership and survival skills to keep passengers alive after his plane crashes on a deserted island. Alongside him is Mike Colter as Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who ends up being a surprising ally for Brodie and possesses his own code of heroism.

Directed by Jean-François Richet, Plane is already confirmed for a sequel, which will be titled Ship. This is thanks in large part to not only the robust box office of the first film but also the very positive reviews. The thrilling action sequences and effects in particular were praised, which the home release of Plane will dive more into via special features. Check out one such behind-the-scenes...

Why Louis Gaspare Runs At The End Of Plane (Was He Really Ever Innocent?)
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for PlaneLouis Gaspare runs at the end of Plane despite his implied innocence, but there is a good explanation as to why. Plane is a Gerard Butler-led action movie, and he plays pilot Brodie Torrance, a former Raf-turned-commercial airline pilot. Brodie is informed he will be transporting prisoner Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter) as he is being extradited to Canada to await trial for murder, but the plane is struck by lightning and crashes on a war-torn island. Louis uses this chance to run, but it is not long before he returns to help Brodie rescue the other passengers who were taken hostage by rebels, introducing him as a man of intergrity.

Butler and Colter lead the cast of Plane and are joined by Tony Goldwyn (Scarsdale), Yoson An (Dele), Daniella Pineda (Bonnie), and Remi Adeleke (Shellback) among others. Plane fits the classic action-movie stereotypes, with a big plane crash,...

Why Beverley Mitchell’s Special Forces Journey Was So Inspiring
Image
Actress Beverley Mitchell became ill during a mission on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test and had to leave the show, but her journey was very inspiring for several reasons. On Special Forces, the 16 celebrity recruits were put through a series of demanding training exercises by directing staff agents Rudy Reyes, Mark Billingham, Jason Fox and Remi Adeleke, an elite team of ex-special forces operatives. The contestants do not have to eliminate each other, but instead they decide when they have reached their breaking points, often due to illness or injury.

Beverley made it to the Top 9 of Special Forces, toughing it out through several very difficult missions. However, on day 4, her body finally gave out during an especially grueling challenge in the over 100-degree heat in the Wadi Run desert in Jordan. The contestants, including Special Forces' Hannah Brown, were split into two teams that had to push vehicles in neutral up a steep incline.

Plane review: This Gerard Butler thriller desperately needed to be more stupid
Image
Plane isn’t stupid enough. The title of this Gerard Butler action thriller, which should only be said with the monosyllabic matter-of-factness of a toddler at an airport, is so boneheaded that it craves chaotic genius in return. But Plane is stifled by just how ordinary it is, and how closely it hews to the standard tropes of action films with longer, more descriptive – yet less ridiculous – titles.

Here, Butler is parachuted into the exact kind of cheap, vaguely racist action flick that dominated the Eighties and Nineties. He plays Brodie Torrance, a commercial pilot heading up a New Year’s Eve flight from Singapore to Tokyo. It’s a budget airline. There are only 14 passengers onboard – plus, of course, a convicted criminal named Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), who’s being transferred between prisons. The plane is caught up in a violent storm that Brodie is ordered to fly through.

Gerard Butler and Mike Colter in Plane (2023)
Plane is a straightforward action film. It does little new, but most of it well. It has a familiar set-up, familiar stakes, familiar familial issues, and...

There's a succession of familiar faces too. Tony Goldwyn and Paul Ben-Victor are the main men in the airline's crisis room. Remi Adeleke has leveraged his time as a Navy Seal into on-screen roles where actual training actually convinces. Evan Dane Turner is (as many before him) making the transition from stunt performer to credible bad guy. He's not alone in that movement from sort of behind to sort of in front of the camera, Oliver Trevana and Claro de los Reyes might be on different sides of the aisle but are also both familiarly multi-hyphenate.

Few faces are as familiar as Gerard Butler's though. Here he shares limelight with Mike Colter. Colter's had a leading role (Luke Cage) in an MCU series,...

Why Gus Kenworthy Was Out Of Line With Nastia Liukin On Special Forces
Image
On Special Forces: World's Toughest Test episode 3, Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy was wrong to criticize Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin for receiving special treatment, leading to her early exit from the show. On day three of filming, the recruits were challenged with an emergency escape drill. They had to hold their breath underwater for twenty seconds in a car until they were given the signal that they could unbuckle their seat belts and swim out. Nastia questioned whether she could complete the task because she didn't think she could hold her breath for that long. She even mentioned an injury that could prevent her from doing it. In order to help Nastia, DS agent Remi Adeleke sat next to her in the vehicle. This upset Gus, who felt that she received special treatment and did not really pass the test.

After the challenge, which Special Forces recruit Mel B aced, Gus...

Why Not Having Eliminations On Special Forces Is A Great Thing
Image
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test is different from other reality competition shows because it will not feature eliminations, which is great for the contestants. The only way for the celebrity recruits to leave the show is if they decide that they want to, either because they fail, or because they are injured. They could also be removed by force by one of the agents who will train them. However, unlike shows such as Big Brother or Survivor, during which fellow contestants vote each other out of the competition, Special Forces leaves it up to the individual to stay or go. On the show, the 16 celebrity recruits will be put through a series of demanding training exercises by directing staff agents Rudy Reyes, Mark Billingham, Jason Fox and Remi Adeleke, an elite team of ex-special forces operatives.

The Special Forces cast is made up of stars from the worlds of music,...

Plane Cast & Character Guide
Image
Plane is an old-fashioned action thriller that features two well-known actors in leading roles. Directed by Jean-François Richet from a screenplay by Charles Cumming and J.P. Davis, Plane is the year’s first major action flick. Following a commercial pilot who must execute an emergency landing, only to land on an island that is less than friendly to visitors, Plane received a generally positive critical reception, and is expected to rake in a modest 7-10 million at the box office in its opening weekend.

When it comes to releasing a decent action thriller, hiring a veteran of the genre is never a bad decision. After all, Tom Cruise is still attracting audiences with action flicks like Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Plane is not without a notable action star, having cast Gerard Butler in a role that requires brute force and warmth. Butler is joined by several others,...

Gerard Butler Accidentally Burned Himself With Acid While Filming Plane
Image
Plane star Gerard Butler shares the story of how he accidentally burned himself with dangerous acid while filming the upcoming action thriller. Best known for movies like 300, Law Abiding Citizen, Olympus Has Fallen, and Greenland, Butler continues to make a name for himself in the action genre. While not all of his films are critical darlings, the movies generally prove popular with audiences with the Has Fallen franchise alone now gearing up for its fourth installment. Butler's latest movie, Plane, sees the actor playing pilot Brodie Torrance who is forced to land his aircraft in a warzone during a storm.

In a recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Butler recalls one particularly unpleasant experience while filming Plane that involved burning his face and hands with phosphoric acid.

The actor reveals that he somehow got the acid on his hands while pretending to fix part of the plane...

‘Plane’ Star Gerard Butler Unintentionally Rubbed Acid On His Face While Filming

Butler discussed the incident at a “Late Night” with Seth Meyers appearance and how it occurred while he was filming “Plane” in Puerto Rico.

“I’m rubbing my face and, suddenly, it’s in my throat. It’s in my mouth. It’s up my nose. It’s in my eyes,” Butler told host Seth Meyers. “It’s burning my face, and I mean burning.”

“It turns out this is essentially phosphoric acid,” he continued. “And the airline pilots that were there watching go, ‘No!'”

‘Plane’ Review: Gerard Butler Pilots This Serviceable But Fun B-Movie-Style Action Flick
Image
You can imagine the committee meetings devoted to finding just the right title for primo action star Gerard Butler’s latest, in which he plays an airline pilot encountering lightning strikes that force him to crash-land on a rebel-infested remote island in the Philippines. As it criss-crosses the airline disaster genre and frightening jungle thriller, why not just tell the public what it really is. While it could be called Terror Island, or maybe Pirates Jungle, or Flight to the Death, the producers came up with the inspired plain Plane. That works well enough for anyone expecting Airport meets The High and the Mighty, but really it is just the first half that fits snugly into that category, nail-biting as it is.

Most of the action comes when the plane somehow survives a fierce lightning storm (nice FX here) by crash-landing in the largely uninhabited Jolo Island Cluster in the...

Gerard Butler is a man on a mission in upcoming film 'Plane'
Image
Hollywood star Gerard Butler, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Plane’, has described his character in the movie as a man on a mission, who will do everything in his capacity to save his passengers from the imminent danger.

His character of Brodie Torrance finds himself fighting for the safety of his passengers after an emergency landing in the film. ‘Plane’ captures the story of a commercial pilot and a convicted fugitive (Mike Colter) working together to safeguard their fellow passengers.

Talking about his character in the film, Butler said, “Torrance is a rich character. Though he has no tactical experience in combating dangerous rebels, he feels a deep responsibility towards his passengers, and to the daughter he is on his way to see. After the emergency landing, he’ll go above and beyond to protect his passengers and get them home. He’s a man on a mission.

A Plane Crash Is Just the Beginning of Gerard Butler’s Woes in Wild ‘Plane’ Trailer — Watch
Image
January is the time for campy horror movies (see: “M3GAN”), extremely late-coming Oscar contenders (International Feature hopefuls “Saint Omer” and “Close”), and of course, ridiculous action thrillers, preferably starring Gerard Butler.

And Lionsgate is more than happy to provide us with the latter via “Plane,” Butler’s newest action movie. The studio released the final trailer for the film Wednesday, a week ahead of its theatrical release.

As its title suggests, the story of “Plane” begins on an airplane, piloted by Brodie Torrance (Butler), which is carrying Louis Gaspare (“Evil” star Mike Colter), a man being extradited on charges of homicide. After the plane gets heavily damaged by a freak storm, Brodie is forced to crash-land in Jolo, an island in the Philippines overrun by anti-government militias. When one of the militias, led by the short-tempered Dele (Yoson An), takes the majority of the crew and passengers hostage, Brodie is...

‘Plane’ Trailer #2 with Gerard Butler and Mike Colter
Image
The second trailer for Plane tosses in all the standard action film moments, with Gerard Butler and Mike Colter as the good guys and a group of rebels as the villains. And although it’s named Plane, most of the action appears to take place on the ground rather than in the air. (Maybe the sequel will be called Boat and take place on land?)

Joining Gerard Butler and Mike Colter in the R-rated action thriller are Yoson An, Daniella Pineda, Paul Ben-Victor, Remi Adeleke, Joey Slotnick, Evan Dane Taylor, Claro de los Reyes, and Tony Goldwyn.

Jean-François Richet directed from a screenplay by Charles Cumming and J.P. Davis (story by Cumming). Butler, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Alan Siegel produce.

Lionsgate Films is releasing Plane in theaters on January 13, 2023.

Plane Trailer: Gerard Butler And Mike Colter Star In Jailbreaks On A Plane

Look, it's not every day that I get to flex my background as an aviation major and actually make it relevant with my obsessive love for film. So, for better or worse, I'm about to take full advantage of the opportunity here and go completely off the deep end with one of the more amusing movies on the upcoming calendar.

I've been frantically gathering as much evidence as possible to support the hypothesis that we're in the early stages of an aerial renaissance of sorts. "Top Gun: Maverick" emphatically proved that audiences still feel the need for speed, flocking to theaters to experience those visceral thrills for themselves. In a quirk of timing, the World War II-set movie about flying aces, "Devotion," also came out last year -- even sharing similar DNA with the "Top Gun" sequel, in fact, thanks to the casting of Glen Powell in both movies. Two...
