Aisha Jackson is the new Daisy in Broadway’s The Great Gatsby and the production has released an official video of her performing with co-star Ryan McCartan!

A video has been released of them singing “My Green Light,” the act one finale duet between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.

Aisha recently took over the role of Daisy from original star Eva Noblezada and first replacement Sarah Hyland. The Broadway actress is best known for previously starred in musicals like The Notebook, Once Upon a One More Time, Paradise Square, and Frozen.

Cabaret will end its New York run Oct. 19 after about 14 months on Broadway.

The closing notice comes after the production undertook a large-scale remodeling of the August Wilson Theatre and has mounted a costly, immersive production, with reports of the show being capitalized for up to $24 million. With the early closing notice, and bumpy grosses throughout its run, the show will likely exit Broadway without recouping.

In the final 13 weeks of the run, Billy Porter will take over as the Emcee and Marisha Wallace will take over as Sally Bowles starting July 22. The two reprise the roles they played in the production in London’s West End.

They will join the cast on Tuesday, July 22 and lead the production for its final 13 weeks through Sunday, October 19.

Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club will close on Sunday, October 19, producers announced today, ending a 14-month run that was spotty at the box office and almost certainly will leave investors short from recouping the revival’s estimated $23 million-plus costs.

Also today, producers announced that Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace will be the show’s final Emcee and Sally Bowles, with the two actors taking over the roles on Tuesday, July 22.

Producers have not revealed or confirmed the show’s capitalization amount or whether the show has recouped or is expected to recoup.

With today's announcement of the Tony Awards nominations, Daniel Dae Kim has made history as the first Aapi nominee in the Lead Actor in a Play category. After much speculation, country singer Orville Peck confirmed that he will not wear his mask when he makes his Broadway debut in Cabaret later this month.

Patrick Page, Broadway’s Tony-nominated Hades of Hadestown who was scheduled to join the other original production castmates in a monthlong West End reunion engagement this month, has withdrawn from the run due to a full rupture of his Achilles tendon.

Page, however, will perform for the live capture pro-shot performances on February 28 and March 1. The filming of the original cast West End reunion was announced in January.

Adam Lambert used his birthday as a moment to speak up for change this year.

The Grammy-nominated singer is currently starring as the Emcee in Cabaret on Broadway and he was presented with a giant pineapple-shaped birthday cake during the curtain call on Wednesday night (January 29) at the August Wilson Theatre in New York City.

Cast member David Merino led the celebration for Adam‘s birthday and the performance just so happened to be a benefit for Pride Live and the Stonewall National Monument Visitors Center.

Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell’s hit Tony-winning Broadway musical based on the Orpheus myth will be professionally filmed live during its current West End engagement featuring the original Broadway cast, producers announced today.

Reprising their roles from the original Broadway cast for the London pro-shoot will be Reeve Carney as Orpheus, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice and Patrick Page as Hades.

The filming will take place at London’s Lyric Theatre across three performances: Friday, February 28; and both matinee and evening performances on Saturday March 1. There will be 2,000 tickets in total available to purchase for the filmed performances, with tickets on sale Friday, January 31 at 12 pm.

Casting for performances between February 11 and March 9, including the filmed performances, will feature the previously announced original cast members from the National Theatre and the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway productions.

Sarah Hyland and Ryan McCartan are joining the cast of the Broadway musical The Great Gatsby and they gave a preview of their performances at last week’s Centennial Gala.

The two actors performed the song “My Green Light” while attending a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the book on Thursday (January 16) at the New York Public Library in New York City.

Sarah and Ryan joined the musical’s departing original stars Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada to toast the novel’s influence over the past century.

Orville Peck is headed to the Great White Way. Peck will be joining the KitKat Club as the Emcee in Broadway’s current Cabaret revival, replacing Adam Lambert.

The country singer’s Broadway debut will commence on March 31st at the August Wilson Theater. It’s unknown whether Peck will be donning his signature mask for the performance, or whether he’ll be billed by his stage name or his birth name, Daniel Pitout.

With 36 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry on Tuesday morning. Among the most surprising 2024 Tony nominations snubs was “Patriots.” Peter Morgan‘s history play about Russia earned three Olivier Award nominations last year, including Best New Play, Actor (Tom Hollander) and Featured Actor (Will Keen). In New York, it only scored one for Michael Stuhlbarg, who took over the role played by Hollander in the UK; Keen, who reprises his role as Vladimir Putin, did not score a nomination in a category stuffed with “Stereophonic” performers.

The revival of “The Who’s Tommy” also significantly underperformed. Gold Derby users predicted it would land three nominations for Best Musical Revival, Best Actor for Ali Louis Bourzgui and Best Choreographer for Lorin Latarro, but it only earned one bid in the top revival category.

Close races and sharp elbows are likely when the 2024 Tony Award nominations are announced Tuesday morning. With so many shows opening during the onslaught of the past two weeks, nominators might still be clearing their minds — and maybe taking a moment to eat and breathe — as they ponder and re-ponder the 36 productions that opened on Broadway between April 28, 2023, and April 25, 2024.

Some of the nominations are no-brainers: The much-praised and hugely popular Merrily We Roll Along is a sure bet for all concerned, but what about more polarizing fare? Cabaret, Here Lies Love, Water for Elephants, I’m looking at you.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met for the fourth and final time during the 2023-2024 Broadway season on April 26, to discuss eligibility of 12 productions for the 77th Annual Tony Awards in 2024.

The productions discussed were: “The Wiz,” “Suffs,” “Stereophonic,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Cabaret,” “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” “Patriots,” “Mary Jane,” “Uncle Vanya,” “Illinoise,” “Mother Play,” and “The Great Gatsby.”

The most impactful decision of this announcement is the determination that both Steve Carell and William Jackson Harper will be eligible for Lead Actor in a Play for the Lincoln Center Theatre revival of “Uncle Vanya.” Most prognosticators assumed that Harper would contend in the Featured Actor race. This category switch means that Lead Actor in a Play will have a guaranteed five nominees. Conversely, Anika Noni Rose was not bumped up to the Lead Actress in a Play category, so that race will contain just four guaranteed nominees...

‘Tis the Broadway season of reinvention. Shaina Taub smartly retooled half of Suffs’s score since its off-Broadway premiere in 2022, allowing her jam-packed historical musical to shed some weight and soar. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins revisited the text of his 2014 play Appropriate, his subtle, meaningful edits transforming the work into a monster hit on Broadway. But he had a decade to do so and the play was already great.

Not so great, in contrast, was The Great Gatsby’s inauspicious world premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, last October. Crafted initially as an international commission intended to be performed in translation for South Korean audiences, The Great Gatsby’s first soiree was kind of like the man himself, an impotent facsimile hiding behind pretty faces and loud voices. Even the gilded sets wobbled in New Jersey.

A hasty Broadway transfer was commercially understandable in a competitive landscape but artistically insane.

The Great Gatsby musical, the highest grossing show in Off-Broadway theater Paper Mill Playhouse’s history, will be coming to Broadway this spring.

The musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s acclaimed novel will debut at The Broadway Theatre on April 25, the show’s lead producer Chunsoo Shin announced on Tuesday. Lola Tung, best known for her role as Belly in Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, will make her Broadway debut next month in a Hadestown limited engagement.

Tung will take over the role of Eurydice from Solea Pfeiffer on February 9 (Pfeiffer’s final performance is February 4). Tung’s limited engagement will run through March 17. She’ll star alongside Grammy winner Ani Difranco, who takes over the role of Persephone from Betty Who beginning February 9 through June 30.

“I saw Hadestown in February of 2020 and immediately fell in love with the show,” Tung said in a statement. “I’d had dreams of being on Broadway since I performed in my middle school musicals, and after seeing Hadestown I instantly added it to the little list of dream shows in my mind.”

Broadway actor Chris Peluso, known for his work in productions such as Mamma Mia and Wicked, died Wednesday, August 15, his family confirmed to Playbill. He was 40.

A cause of death has not been revealed. His sudden passing came a year after he announced he would be stepping away from acting to seek treatment for a schizoaffective disorder, Playbill reported.

An alum of the University of Michigan Theatre Department, Peluso became known as a respected understudy on Broadway, first covering The Balladeer in the 2004 Tony-winning revival of Assassins, as Louis and Nicolas in Elton John’s Lestat , and all three leading male roles in Beautiful The Carole King Musical.

He played Sky in the 2008 Broadway production of Mamma Mia. He also starred and covered the role of Fiyero in the touring company of Wicked, and he starred in Off Broadway’s The Glorious Ones.

MGM’s Orion Pictures and Audible Theater have partnered for “Women Talking: An Evening of Wild Female Imagination,” a one night only special theatrical event at Audible’s off-Broadway Minetta Lane Theatre in New York City.
