BBC Pushing On With Tonight’s Wynne Evans Series Despite ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Contestant’s Inappropriate Remark
Image
Exclusive: The BBC has committed to airing tonight’s Wynne Evans series despite the Strictly Come Dancing star being forced to apologize over the weekend due to an inappropriate remark made while on the Strictly live tour.

Evans, who is best known in the UK as the opera singer from the Go Compare adverts, is hosting tonight’s Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea on BBC One at 8.30 p.m. GMT (12.30 p.m. Pt), in which he and Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page sail along the Welsh coastline over six episodes.

The timing could be better for the BBC. Over the weekend, it was revealed that Evans had been reprimanded by the producers of the Strictly live tour after he was recorded using the term “spitroast,” which is slang for a three-person sexual position. The remark was allegedly directed towards professional dancer and television presenter Janette Manrara at the start of this month.

Tess Daly at an event for Brit Awards 2011 (2011)
Strictly spoilers and results 2024: Who is leaving on Strictly Come Dancing Week 8?
Tess Daly at an event for Brit Awards 2011 (2011)
This year's iteration of Strictly Come Dancing has reached its halfway point. It did that last week, and now we're on the road to Blackpool. That's right; it's the week before the annual extravaganza and you can bet that Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman had fun with their favorite game of the series: How many times can they say Blackpool in one episode? The answer was, as always, a lot.

After last week's controversial Icons Week (which saw Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin eliminated after a Dance-Off appearance with Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe), we were back to typical performances this week - much to the delight of the audience, many of whom were thankful after two consecutive weeks of theme weeks.

But with Blackpool on the horizon, which of our remaining nine couples shone the brightest and which ones have found themselves in danger of the dreaded Dance-Off?

The Paradox of Entertaining and Ethical Reality TV: How U.K. Bosses Are Trying to Make Shows Safer
Image
Love Island, The Traitors, Love Is Blind: they’re so popular, they’ve gone global. Reality TV is an ever-evolving beast that can guarantee hefty viewership with the promise of drama. But show bosses in the U.K. are facing an influx of concerns surrounding the welfare of their contestants and crew. A two-pronged problem has emerged.

On Tuesday last week, the BBC confirmed a myriad of welfare measures are to be put in place on its beloved dance competition series Strictly Come Dancing — watched by an average of 6.6 million people per episode in 2023 — after two former professionals on the show had exited following allegations of “gross misconduct.”

Tim Davie, the broadcaster’s director-general, issued an apology as the company’s annual report was released. Though he did not refer to any specific competitors or employees, he spoke about “a degree of competitiveness, hard work and will to do...

Laura Whitmore’s Height: Is She Really 5 Feet 8 Inches Tall?
Image
Laura Whitmore is approximately 5 feet 6 ½ inches (168.9 cm). She is a well-known Irish TV presenter, recognized for her roles on “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here,” MTV Europe, and her participation in season 14 of “Strictly Come Dancing.”

Laura Whitmore looked effortlessly chic in a pastel blue, double-breasted suit with straight-leg trousers featuring an asymmetric cut and studded details, perfectly matching her eye color at the “Renegade Nell” premiere in London on March 26, 2024 (Credit: Matt Crossick / Empics / Pa Images / INSTARimages)

Height Controversy

There has been some discrepancy regarding her height. She claimed to be 5 feet 8 inches tall on her Twitter profile, but on her Spotlight Acting Resume, her height was 5 feet 6 inches (167 cm).

Despite the exact measurement, Laura Whitmore has been admired for her impressive legs. At the 2022 British Academy Film Awards, Laura Whitmore stood tall on the red carpet. Even with Max Harwood’s height of 5 feet 9 ½ inches...

Rapper Jelani Blackman: ‘I had an accidental heart-to-heart with Seann Walsh’
Image
Chat with Jelani Blackman and it’s easy to understand why a person might want to confide in him. Warm and enigmatic, the musician is the kind of guy you feel comfortable opening up to. Just ask comedian Seann Walsh, who apparently stumbled across the south-London artist at a tapas bar on Portobello Road in 2018, immediately after photos emerged of him kissing his married Strictly Come Dancing partner, Katya Jones.

“It was so mad,” the 29-year-old recalls, taking a sip of his pint. “I didn’t really know who he was, but he was crying. We had a long heart-to-heart, just standing outside the restaurant after it all came out...”

The Walsh encounter is, arguably, a rare example of Blackman being in the right place at the right time. Despite his unique voice – a baritone growl so deep it resonates in the pit of your stomach – he has flown under...

The fixation on Seann Walsh’s Strictly scandal points to a hypocritical fear of infidelity
Seann Walsh
It was one of the most uncomfortable moments in recent television history. Comedian Seann Walsh and professional dancer Katya Jones are sitting opposite Zoe Ball, the host of Strictly Come Dancing’s sister show It Takes Two. Jones seems on the verge of tears; Walsh seems irritable, defensive. Neither of them wants to be there. “I’m sorry for the hurt that I caused,” says Walsh, grimacing. “I regret it deeply.” Then, later in the same interview: “I’m not the person I’m being portrayed as.”

This is 10 October 2018, four days after photos of Walsh and Jones kissing on a night out were splashed across The Sun’s front page. Walsh – who’d performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and made frequent appearances on panel shows such as Mock the Week – was one of the celebrity contestants on the hit TV dance contest. Jones was his professional dance partner. At the time,...

Seann Walsh becomes seventh contestant to be eliminated from I’m a Celebrity
Image
Seann Walsh has become the seventh contestant to leave the ongoing series of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Their exit follows that of DJ Chris Moyles during Thursday (24 November) night’s episode, and Babatunde Aleshe’s the night before.

The news was broken by series hosts Ant and Dec, who entered the campsite near the end of Friday’s (25 November) instalment.

Walsh, a stand-up comedian, narrowly beat out Owen Warner in the public vote. The result leaves Warner alongside Conservative MP Matt Hancock, ex-England footballer Jill Scott, and ex-rugby player Mike Tindall in the final four.

Speaking to Ant and Dec after his departure was announced, Walsh said: “So many memories. So many amazing memories. I loved it. It is tough, and I don’t know how that comes across on screen.

“As soon as you said my name, all of the tough bit just goes, and...

Seann Walsh
On Wednesday night’s episode (23 November) of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, comedian Seann Walsh discussed the aftermath of his Strictly Come Dancing scandal.

In 2018, the comic was filmed kissing his Strictly coach Katya Jones, when he had a longterm girlfriend at the time, actor Rebecca Humphries, and Jones was married to fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones.

Speaking to fellow campmate and comedian Babatúndé Aléshé in the I’m a Celebrity jungle, Walsh said: “Easily the most depressing month of my entire life, Edinburgh [Fringe] after Strictly.

“We get to Edinburgh, right, I think it’s a 200-seater, I’ve never not, in Edinburgh, sold out the first night. It doesn’t even occur to me that it’s not sold out.

Strictly leaderboard: Who reached the top and who sunk to the bottom in Blackpool Week
Image
Strictly Come Dancing 2022 is in full flow, with this year’s celebrity contestants continuing to battle it out to win the Glitter Ball trophy.

Saturday (19 November) night’s episode saw the competition really heating up as Strictly returned to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the first time since 2019.

With the eight remaining couples facing new challenges as they performed on the huge, sprung stage and were joined by backing dancers for their routines – much to the frustration of the viewers – the scores were high too.

Fleur East convinced Craig Revel Horwood to finally get his 10 paddle out as she scored the first perfect 40 of the series with her Couple’s Choice routine.

She was closely followed by Helen Skelton and Hamza Yassin, while Ellie Taylor is at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Strictly Come Dancing: Tony Adams addresses early exit from reality series
Strictly Come Dancing (2004)
Tony Adams has addressed his exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Arsenal football player and his professional partner Katya Jones became the seventh couple to leave the BBC reality competition after he made the decision to withdraw due to a hamstring injury.

The pair performed a jive on Saturday night (12 November), which landed them in the bottom two.

They were set to face Tyler West and Diane Buswell, but the Dance Off did not go ahead with presenter Tess Daley explaining that Adams had decided to withdraw “due to an injury sustained on Saturday night”.

Speaking alongside Jones on the Strictly spin off show It Takes Two, Adams said: "It’s been getting tough the past couple of weeks.

“I had a bit of a hammy last week, went out and danced, then on Thursday pointing my toe down, bit of retraction, that’s not done in football, you know,...

Katya Jones says Tony Adams ‘saved lives’ by taking part in Strictly Come Dancing
Image
Katya Jones has shared a touching tribute to Tony Adams after he quit Strictly Come Dancing.

The retired footballer became the seventh contestant to leave the BBC series after sustaining an injury during Saturday night’s episode (12 November).

Adams was set to perform again in the dance-off against TV presenter Tyler West, but decided to “withdraw from the competition”, meaning West automatically went through to the next round.

The former England and Arsenal pro was considered this year’s “joke” contestant, but has been praised by his dance partner for signing up to the show to spread awareness of mental health.

Jones wrote on Twitter on Sunday (13 November): “Oh @TonyAdams! You came into this show to deliver an important message. By throwing yourself into this wild experience, totally surrendering to it, by showing up every single day and doing your absolute best – you connected and resonated with so many people at homes.

Tony Adams has become the seventh contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing after making the decision to quit the show.

As a result, the dance off did not go ahead and Tyler West has gone through to the next stage, which will be filmed in Blackpool next Saturday (19 November).

Strictly host Tess Daly explained: “Due to an injury sustained on Saturday night [12 November], Tony is unable to take part in the dance off and has decided to withdraw from the competition.”

Adams’s last dance with professional partner Katya Jones was the Jive, with a routine that included a series of very entertaining roly-polies, which sent the crowd went absolutely wild. The performance earned the pair 24 points.

Head judge Shirley Ballas said: “Tony, from the very first moment you stepped foot on the floor with your tango, to the last moment and the last kick, you have given us 100 per cent of your heart.

Katya Jones is the best thing to happen to Strictly – rows, scandals, Tony Adams and all
Image
It says a lot that Katya Jones winning Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 is arguably the least interesting thing to happen to her since joining the show. Along the way, the Russian dancer has faced scandals, divorce and arguments with her partners, while honing a skill for polishing untrained celebrities into dance diamonds. Where certain pros who may now sit on the judging panel would get lumped with a “joke” contestant like, off the top of my head, Ann Widdecombe, and accept that stereotype, giving them unchallenging choreography and even, say, dragging them around the floor, Jones never does. For her, there are no “joke” contestants. Not Ed Balls. Not Tony Adams.

On day one of her first season in 2017, the pro was dropped in at the deep end. Partnered with Balls, a former shadow chancellor famous for, among other things, tweeting the words “Ed Balls” with no explanation, she chose to swim.

I’m a Celebrity: Seann Walsh says ex’s statement on Strictly cheating scandal was ‘the end of me’
Image
Seann Walsh has opened up about the cheating scandal that torpedoed his comedy career during Thursday’s (10 November) episode of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

In 2018, the comic was filmed kissing his Strictly Come Dancing coach Katya Jones while the pair were in pre-existing relationships.

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver asked Walsh about the tabloid backlash to the scandal, asking the comedian: “Why did that crucify you? Why did that have such an impact?”

In response, Walsh said: “To be totally honest with you, my poor ex, my girlfriend at the time, posted a statement. My girlfriend [at the time] posted a statement and that was the end of me.”

Walsh was in a long-term relationship with actor Rebecca Humphries at the time and Jones was married to fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones. They split up in 2019 and, just last month, Humphries appeared on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table...

Ant and Dec mock Seann Walsh’s Strictly kissing scandal during I’m a Celebrity debut
Declan Donnelly and Anthony McPartlin in I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (2002)
I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! hosts Ant and Dec wasted no time in making a dig at comedian Seann Walsh during Wednesday’s (9 November) episode.

Walsh joined the show as a “bombshell” late addition alongside former health secretary Matt Hancock.

The comic was embroiled in a cheating scandal in 2018 when he was filmed kissing his Strictly Come Dancing coach Katya Jones while the pair were in pre-existing relationships.

“And we all know what happened the last time Seann was paired up with someone on a reality show…” Ant said before Dec added: “Let’s hope he doesn’t get off with Matt Hancock!”

Feigning anger, Ant grabbed Dec and told him: “Never ever say the words ‘get off with Matt Hancock!’ I can’t even say the words.”

Hancock was himself involved in a kissing scandal after a June 2021 leaked video showed he had breached social distancing restrictions by kissing his aide,...

Hamza Yassin teases upcoming Strictly routine that would ‘never normally’ feature on show
Image
Hamza Yassin has given some insight into his next performance on Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC cameraman and wildlife reporter is partnered with Jowita Przystal on the current season of the dance competition.

So far, the pair have been among some of the most consistent high scorers on the leaderboard. Last week, they scored 38 out of a possible 40 for their cha cha cha to “I Can’t Help Myself” by the Four Tops. Judge Shirley Ballas called it “one of the best I’ve ever seen”.

On Tuesday’s (8 November) edition of Strictly companion show It Takes Two, Yassin gave viewers a hint of what to expect from his upcoming performance.

Saturday (12 November) will see Yassin and Przystal take on a couple’s choice dance to “Jerusalema (Remix)” by Master Kg featuring Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode.

Speaking to It Takes Two host Rylan Clark, Yassin said that the routine would honour his birth country,...

‘She’s a little bit over-critical’: Tony Adams speaks out about Strictly ‘row’ with Katya Jones
Image
Tony Adams has addressed rumours of a rift with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones.

The former England football team manager is currently competing for the glitterball in the BBC dancing contest.

Towards the end of last Saturday’s (5 November) episode, Adams and Jones were seen to be having a serious discussion as hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were giving their final remarks.

Earlier in the programme, they’d scored 21 points out of a possible 40 for their salsa to “I Know You Want Me” by Pitbull.

The judges had picked up several technical mistakes that Adams had made during the dance, which Jones assured them he hadn’t been making during their training throughout the week.

After seeing the pair having a heated conversation, some viewers became convinced that they’d been involved in a row.

On Wednesday’s (9 November) edition of Good Morning Britain, they made light...

Who is Seann Walsh? I’m a Celebrity 2022 contestant in profile
Image
Seann Walsh is reported to be one of this year’s competitors on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The comedian is thought to be joining the show as a “bombshell” late addition alongside former health secretary Matt Hancock.

Before his headline-making appearance on Strictly Come Dancing (more on that further down), the comedian and actor started out his stand-up career in Brighton. Walsh performed his 2012 show Seann to Be Wild at the Edinburgh Fringe and toured the country with it. His 2013 Fringe show The Lie-In King also received positive reviews.

Walsh had a role in Jack Dee’s ITV sitcom Bad Move, and made numerous TV appearances on shows such as Live at the Apollo and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Walsh joined the lineup for Strictly in 2018, and was paired up with professional dancer Katya Jones.

The pair became embroiled in scandal after they were...

Strictly Come Dancing: Tony Adams apologises for Shirley Ballas comment in live show
Strictly Come Dancing (2004)
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tony Adams has apologised to head judge Shirley Ballas for telling her to “go home” after she criticised his routine.

The former Arsenal player performed a Cha Cha during the BBC centenary special on 22 October, and was filmed saying “go home Shirley” after she gave him and his pro partner Katya Jones a low score of four.

In Saturday night’s live show (29 October), Adams’s Quickstep went down well with the judging panel.

Addressing his previous comments during an on-air debrief with host Claudia Winkleman, before the judges gave him his latest scores, Adams said: “I just want to say to Shirley as well, I made a comment last week. I ain’t got a clue. I accept a four, I accept an eight, it doesn’t really matter.

“I don’t understand. I listen to her [Jones], but I’ve got to apologise for my comment.

‘It was donated’: Jimmy Carr’s hair transplant mocked by Amanda Holden
Jimmy Carr
Jimmy Carr has been mocked by Amanda Holden for having a hair transplant.

Holden made the dig while appearing as a judge on the forthcoming episode of I Can See Your Voice on BBC One (Saturday 22 October).

In a clip seen by Metro, the judging panel – which also includes Carr, Alison Hammond and Alexandra Burke – were introduced to two friends who met while working at a hair salon.

“Do I look alright?” Holden, 51, jokingly asked, before pointing at Carr, 50, and saying: “What about his new hair? Because that was from someone else – it was donated.”

Carr was quick to join in on the joke at his own expense. “It’s from a donor,” he said. “One of One Direction looks terrible now.”

Holden is used to being the butt of Carr’s jokes on the show. In last week’s episode, when a mystery singer calling themselves No Scrubs performed wearing a doctor’s uniform,...

Strictly Come Dancing’s Tony Adams said he was ‘told off’ by partner Katya Jones
Image
Strictly Come Dancing’s Tony Adams has said he had a tense talk with professional partner Katya Jones before last week’s show.

During Saturday (15 October) night’s show, the dancing duo received their best scores so far from judges for their American Smooth.

However, appearing on It Takes Two on Tuesday (18 October), Adams admitted he had been “full of fear” after dress rehearsals.

“I was full of fear beforehand and I had a team talk,” he told host Rylan Clark.

“[Jones] came into my dressing room after our dress rehearsal and told me a few home truths about me holding back.

“I think she admits maybe it could have gone either way. I could have thrown my toys out of the pram and gone home,” he continued.

“But I fought back the fear and just, kind of, went for it.”

Adams and Jones received a total score of 26 from the...

Strictly Come Dancing couples to dance to BBC theme tunes to mark 100th anniversary
Image
Strictly Come Dancing is set to pay tribute to the BBC’s 100 years this weekend.

The main show on Saturday (22 October) will see each couple dance to a theme tune to a BBC show, or a song heavily featured on the broadcast network.

This will mark the first time that Strictly has based its entire week’s theme on the corporation.

The episode will begin with a group number that will show the Strictly professionals and judges gate crash some of the BBC’s best-known shows.

With several of this year’s celebrity contenders being stars of BBC shows, this week’s theme will feature some of them dancing to the songs that have been a large part of their careers.

James Bye, who plays Martin Fowler in EastEnders, will dance the foxtrot with Amy Dowden to the soap’s theme tune.

Wildlife presenter and cameraman Hamza Yassin, who achieved...

Strictly 2022 results: Kaye Adams is the first contestant to be eliminated
Image
The first celebrity has been eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.

An eventful live show on Saturday (1 October) saw all 15 stars hit the dance floor with their professional partners for the second time.

Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu emerged at the top spot with a total of 65 points – a combination of their scores from this week and last.

Meanwhile, Tony Adams and Katya Jones found themselves at the bottom with only 37 points.

The judges’ scores were added with the results of the viewer’s votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Sunday night’s (2 October) results show saw Kaye Adams and her partner Kai Widdrington become the first couple to depart the dancefloor this season.

It was Kaye and Kai went head-to-head against Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova in the dance-off.

Both couples performed their routines again, with Kaye performing the Charleston and Matt performing the samba.

Strictly Come Dancing 2022: The 10 best Movie Week dances, ranked
Image
Every year, Strictly Come Dancing returns to glitz up our Saturday nights... and every year, fans are treated to another movie special.

First introduced in 2014, Strictly’s Movie Week sees the contestants perform a selection of dances inspired by the biggest Hollywood blockbusters, with comedy, action and kids films all being given the Strictly treatment over the years.

But what makes for a really good Movie Week performance? Looking the part is obviously key, and you can always expect this theme to bring out some of the best hair, make-up and costumes that Strictly has to offer.

Ultimately, however, it’s the dancing being marked, with the best performances managing to show off the celebrity’s skill – something they often haven’t quite found yet, with Movie Week usually coming around the third week in the competition – while also featuring choreography that captures the essence of the films they’re paying tribute to.

The Strictly curse: Does it really exist?
Image
The so-called “Strictly curse” has been a tabloid mainstay for at least a decade, founded on the idea that participating on Strictly Come Dancing (whether as a celebrity or a professional dancer) threatens the status of the relationship you’re in when you sign up.

Stories of its destructive power arrive like clockwork each winter. Along with forgotten B-listers and stars of Holby City and/or EastEnders hitting the dance floor, hysterical headlines will report on Strictly duos left so erotically charged in pasodoble rehearsals that they dump their spouses.

Presenter Claudia Winkleman has repeatedly shot down the curse, once saying that it’s less a supernatural occurrence as merely the Strictly experience being “intoxicating”. It is also true that dancing is an obvious aphrodisiac. Regardless whether you're rehearsing an intimate routine or not, dancing releases endorphins and makes you happy (it’s science!). Similarly, throwing yourself into a diligent...

Strictly leaderboard: Who reached the top and who sunk to the bottom in week 1?
Image
Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, with a new batch of contestants learning the art of ballroom dancing for the first time.

The BBC competition series returned on Saturday (24 September), with 15 celebrities hitting the dance floor with their pro partners for the first time.

It was a night of varying dance abilities, with Will Mellor and Hamza Yassin sharing the top spot on the leaderboard with an impressive 34 out of 40 marks each.

Tony Adams, meanwhile, is currently at the bottom end with just 15 poionts for his Arsenal-themed tango.

However, everything could still change during Saturday (1 October) night’s show, as the scores from last week will be added to the marks gained by the contestants for their second dances.

The new leaderboard will then be combined with the public votes, with the bottom two couples facing the dreaded dance off and the first couple leaving the competition.
