Britton portrays Claire, an American living in Rome with her daughter Robin (Freya Hannan-Mills) who communicates with sign language. She’s not deaf, but mute, not talking since a childhood trauma. On a rainy day, Robin gets into a bicycle accident, so severe she dies … for 15 minutes. When she emerges from a coma, she seems back to normal, even regaining her speech. But as the weeks after the accident go by, odd events eventually overtake Robin and Claire, so much so that Claire starts to question whether Robin is the same person she once was.

Many movies have dealt with the agonized grief that follows a child’s death. More than a few, notably “Pet Sematary” and its ilk, have dealt with the … er, awkwardness when said child unnaturally comes back to life, or at least un-death. Smoothly crafted but uninspired “Here After” tries to have it both ways, playing that resurrection for horror-adjacent creepiness that never quite goes anywhere, then pivoting to a sentimental mix of sacrifice and redemption similar to “faith-based entertainment” without quite making the commitment.

Despite the efforts of toplining Connie Britton as an American expat in Rome, Robert Salerno’s feature directorial bow ultimately feels like a supernatural drama suited for television, too mild in its suspense and too pat in its soapy emphasis on maternal suffering. Paramount is launching the co-production in U.S. theaters and on digital this Friday, several weeks after its Italian release.

Having been in the industry since 1996's Sling Blade, Salerno has been on the producing side for a variety of hits throughout his career, including the Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal-led Nocturnal Animals and Charlie Kaufman's I'm Thinking of Ending Things. When her daughter is resuscitated after a fatal accident, Claire Hiller is relieved beyond belief. However, the official synopsis warns that "her relief turns to dread as Claire notices changes in [Robin], suspecting something dark has followed her back from the brink of death." There's little a mother wouldn't do for her child, and Claire must dive deep into the world of the paranormal if she hopes to save Robin's soul.

A very interesting combination of techniques in this dramatized documentary series that brings to life the history in a very Game of Thrones fashion. If you haven’t seen it, give it a peek and see the interesting approach they have taken in creating a story so vivid that it captivates, and the producers’ angle of modernizing everything History-conveying – remember the dry history literature in school? This is the polar opposite, giving the subject some much welcome glamour and allure. We have seen new ways of relaying History lately, making it more appealing, a good example would be the doc-series ‘Blood, sex and Royalty‘. ‘Rise of Empires: Ottoman‘ delivers, with a similarly novel approach, a chronicle historical events.

Exclusive: STXtv has sold docu-drama series Rise of Empires: Ottoman to Youku for China, Viasat World for Central & Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Baltics, Russia and Cis, and Sic for Portugal.

The six-hour English-language production, narrated by Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones), tells the story of Mehmed II, who at 21 years-old became known as Mehmed the Conqueror, chronicling his fabled rise from 13-year-old Child Sultan to toppling Constantinople and becoming the ruler of the Ottoman Empire.

The show, produced by Karga Seven Pictures in association with STXtv, debuted in most markets on Netflix earlier this year. Turkish distributor Global Agency previously acquired Latin American distribution rights from STX.

The series was shot in multiple locations in Turkey, facilitated by Karga Seven’s Turkish production outfit.

Exclusive: Game of Thrones star Charles Dance is to narrate Netflix docu-drama Rise of Empires: Ottoman. The six-part series launches on the streaming service on January 24.

Formerly known as Ottoman Rising, the series is produced by STXtelevision, which was behind Nat Geo’s Valley of the Boom, and Red Arrow Studios’ Karga Seven Pictures.

Dance, who recently starred as Lord Mountbatten in the third season of The Crown, will provide narration in the original English-language-version of the show.
