Writer-director Raine Allen-Miller’s forthcoming feature from Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures is adding to its cast.

Tom Davis, Simon Manyonda, Fehinti Balogun, Oscar Armstrong Miller and Carol Lawes have joined the cast of The Roots Manœuvre, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. In addition, Sampha will make a special musical appearance. The previously announced castmembers include star Vivian Oparah, along with Toni Collette, Little Simz, Jessica Henwick, Thomas Turgoose and Paterson Joseph.

The Roots Manœuvre centers on a young woman (Oparah) who masterminds a risky heist to retrieve a stolen artifact amid the backdrop of an extravagant wedding. The movie is set to hit theaters but has not yet announced a release date.

Producing the film are Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B, alongside Damian Jones for DJ Films. The project is produced in association with BBC Film and includes Eva Yates as executive producer.

Apple TV+ has rounded out the main cast of its upcoming series adaptation of the Mick Herron novel “Down Cemetery Road.”

Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart have all been cast in the series.

They will appear alongside previously announced leads Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson.

The official description for the series states, “When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbor Sarah Tucker (Wilson) becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson). The eight-episode series follows an aristocrat, Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, who spends decades banished to an attic hotel room following the October Revolution after being sentenced to house arrest by a Bolshevik tribunal. Based on the 2016 novel by Amor Towles, the series was written by Ben Vanstone, who also serves as the executive producer and showrunner, and whose pilot episode titled “A Master of Circumstance” is submitted for consideration. The same episode will represent Sam Miller in the directing race, who has previously landed three Emmy bids: one for “Luther” in 2012 and two “I May Destroy You” in 2021.

The series received solid reviews from critics and boasted an impressive 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are husband and wife, and despite being married since 2022, the couple still used an intimacy coordinator on the set of the series A Gentleman in Moscow.

McGregor revealed in a recent interview why having an intimacy coordinator on the set was important while filming sex scenes for the series.

“It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera,” McGregor told Radio Times. “If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle.”

The actor also noted the importance of intimacy coordinators, especially now that his daughters Esther and Clara are also actors.

Ewan McGregor returns to television in the new historical drama, A Gentleman in Moscow. The new limited series is eight episodes and will be premiering on Showtime Friday, March 29. The premium movie channel has just released a new trailer ahead of its premiere. The drama has McGregor playing Count Rostov as he becomes imprisoned in the grand Hotel Metropol. A Gentleman in Moscow also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as film actress Anna Urbanova, Alexa Goodall as the Count’s unlikely young friend Nina, Johnny Harris as conflicted secret police officer Osip and Fehinti Balogun as Mishka, the Count’s best friend from university.

The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actor leads the eight episode Showtime limited series adapted from Amor Towles’ bestselling novel. Emmy winner McGregor portrays Count Alexander Rostov who is banished by the Soviets to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. Despite Alexander living through the Russian Revolution, he is completely unaware of what is happening outside of the hotel due to his imprisonment. “Like it or not there is an onus on actors,” said Mank star Tom Burke of the idea of global stars taking on the Green Rider unveiled earlier today, which will empower artists to add clauses to their contracts that work towards an environmental culture shift.

“We have been afforded an inordinate amount of power,” added the actor whose past credits include Strike and The Musketeers and who played Orson Welles in Mank. “I don’t want to start policing anyone on set but to know this is the sort of thing that can be talked about is realistic.”

Burke added that there has “probably been an anxiety” around actors openly discussing these environmental issues in the past.

Opening the Edinburgh TV Festival, Burke said actors he speaks to are “concerned about people taking the p*ss” when it comes to over-stressing environmental issues on set.

Over 100 high-profile actors, including Mark Rylance, Hayley Atwell, David Harewood and Bill Nighy, have signed their support for Equity’s ‘Green Rider’ plan, which aims to boost sustainability in UK film and TV production.

The proposed Green Rider can be added to actors’ contracts in order to state their own sustainability commitments, and to negotiate bolder sustainability standards on set before accepting a job.

For actors, this would mean avoiding clauses in contracts that consume a lot of materials and carbon, like private jets, while they could also request...

Hayley Atwell, Bill Nighy, Mark Rylance and David Harewood are among a group of 100 actors supporting a new Green Rider contract intended to improve the sustainability of the U.K. film and TV industry.

Spearheaded by U.K. entertainment union Equity, the inclusion of a Green Rider is positioned as a “tool to empower artists” and provide a framework with which to negotiate better practices in film and TV. The rider would be included in standard Equity contracts.

Screen Star of Tomorrow 2021 Thalissa Teixeira will star in the first section of Kink, an anthology film about desire, intimacy and sexuality that is the debut directorial feature of UK filmmaker Freya Mavor.

Written by Mavor, the first part of the feature will shoot in the UK at the end of March, with further parts from different writers filming across the next 12 months. Each segment will run between 20-40 minutes, with Mavor directing and curating the entire project.

It is produced by Isabella Speaight and Molly Murphy of Backscatter Productions, with Pietro Greppi of Lunapark Pictures.
