The Life of Chuck: Mike Flanagan’s latest Stephen King movie is coming to 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD in September
Tom Hiddleston in The Life of Chuck (2024)
The Life of Chuck, the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also working on series adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon Studios) reached theatres at the start of June (you can read our 7/10 review Here). This one is not a horror movie, and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray even described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” Less than two months after it started playing on the big screen, The Life of Chuck was given a digital release, and you can watch it on Amazon, where it can be rented for $9.99 or purchased for $19.99. But if you’ve been waiting for the physical media release, we have good news for you today: the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release is set for September 30th, and copies are available for pre-order Here.

Mike Flanagan's New Stephen King Film Finally Hits Theaters, Debuting With Thrilling Audience Score
Image
Mike Flanagan made his impact on the horror genre with different projects, but he became popular after his partnership with Netflix for shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. However, the auteur is very well-versed in the adaptation of Stephen King's novels.

The horror mastermind is often critical of his adaptations, but his partnership with Flanagan has proven extremely prolific. After Flanagan focused exclusively on creating and directing TV shows, he also worked on several Stephen King projects. The latest one, The Life of Chuck, debuted last year to positive reviews and awards chatter at the Toronto International Film Festival, and, as it finally hit theaters, it features an equally thrilling score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following its release at TIFF, The Life of Chuck debuted with a score of 80% from the critics. Not much has changed since then, except...

The Life Of Chuck | Full trailer lands
Mike Flanagan
Mike Flanagan’s upcoming take on the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck has a new trailer – and an August UK release date.

Off the back of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be something really rather good. The film won TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, leading to buzz that the film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, given that 12 of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.

That ultimately wouldn’t happen because the film’s US distributor Neon – presumably busy running a campaign to get Sean Baker’s Anora a Best Picture Oscar – elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot. While that date doesn’t suggest that Neon thinks The Life Of Chuck...

Mike Flanagan's New Stephen King Adaptation The Life of Chuck Debuts Official Trailer
Image
Mike Flanagan has worked on several Stephen King adaptations, with a new one set to premiere soon. The Life of Chuck is the third adaptation after 2017's Gerald's Game and 2019's Doctor Sleep.

The Life of Chuck had its world premiere in September 2024 at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it snatched an important award, the People's Choice Award. The new Mike Flanagan-Stephen King collaboration is set to adapt the latter's 2020 novella of the same name, which follows the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. After a brief teaser last month, Neon has officially introduced the official trailer ahead of the film's May premiere.

The teaser trailer previously released further hyped up the story, raising more questions about the upcoming sci-fi drama. However, the new The Life of Chuck trailer introduces its star-studded cast and also teases at one of the most-anticipated scenes: the dancing scene. The less-than-two-minute...

Neon Sets Summer Release Date for Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Life of Chuck’

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) showcases the more sentimental side of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. Neon has officially set a release date for the new King adaptation.

The Life of Chuck will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025.

TIFF’s People’s Choice Award winner is split in three separate acts, all linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse. “It’s a Stand By Me for the multiple lives within each of us, pulled between our dreams and down-to-earth pragmatism.” Tom Hiddleston plays the title character.

I wrote in my TIFF review, “It’s the little things that matter most, both in life and in The Life of Chuck. Flanagan finds inventive and stylish ways to remind us of this throughout, shaking loose deep-seated memories from Chuck’s upbringing and highlighting...

Mike Flanagan’s The Life Of Chuck sets summer release date
Tom Hiddleston in The Life of Chuck (2024)
The Life Of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Mike Flanagan, is confirmed for a 2025 release.

Coming out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be an awards contender. Not only is this year’s race for Best Picture said to be one of the most open we’ve had for years, but The Life Of Chuck would win TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, historically a strong indicator that a film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Twelve of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.

The film’s US distributor Neon, however, has instead elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot according to Deadline. Not only does that preclude the film...

The Life Of Chuck Cast & Character Guide
Image
The Life of Chuck features a wide-ranging cast full of familiar faces. The project is an adaptation of the Stephen King novella published as part of the 2020 collection If It Bleeds, composed of the achronological stories "Thanks, Chuck," "Buskers," and "I Contain Multitudes." The movie was written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who has previously helmed the Stephen King movie adaptations Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep and has also acquired the rights to develop a television series based on The Dark Tower as of late 2022.

Mike Flanagan is a director who has become known for having a stable of actors with whom he frequently collaborates across a variety of projects, bringing stars back to play different characters in different contexts. The upcoming The Life of Chuck sees him following this habit, as it features more than a dozen memorable stars with whom he has worked before. However, the movie, which...

Stephen King Nearly Rejected Mike Flanagan Directing The Life of Chuck
Image
Mike Flanagan also didn't direct The Life of Chuck. Ahead of the movie's TIFF premiere, the filmmaker opened up about how author Stephen King almost prevented him from adapting his 2020 novella, which was published as part of the collection If It Bleeds.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, which debuted several first look images of The Life of Chuck, Flanagan explained how King usually "doesnt like to give the same filmmaker more than one thing, because it typically means one thing is not advancing at all." Since Flanagan had already acquired the rights to King's fantasy saga The Dark Tower with Trevor Macy, King was hesitant to let the filmmaker hop aboard another adaptation, out of fear that The Dark Tower would be put on the back burner. "He said, 'Well, lets focus on The Tower and Ill try to keep this one available for you for later,'" Flanagan recalled.

Mike Flanagan is done with bleak, hopeless endings
Image
Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has written some dark, disturbing endings in his career… but we shouldn’t expect to see much of that from him in the future. During a recent interview with actress Katee Sackhoff for the Sackhoff Show podcast, Flanagan explained why he’s done with bleak, hopeless endings.

Flanagan told Sackhoff (with thanks to Cbr for the transcription), “A lot of the stuff I was writing had really bleak endings and very hopeless endings. It pivots right after [Hill House] and everything I’ve done since then doesn’t have that.” Sackhoff asked if that’s the influence of his wife Kate Siegel coming through, and Flanagan said, “I think in a lot of ways it is. And it’s because of family. When Kate and I got together, my outlook changed a lot. We had kids of our own and the kids started growing up and it...

‘The Life of Chuck’ – Mike Flanagan’s Stephen King Adaptation Wraps Production

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) is headed back into the world of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, and Flanagan has announced that production has wrapped.

Mike Flanagan – who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – recently went into production on another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck… and now, during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, star Tom Hiddleston (Loki) has confirmed that his work on the film has been completed. While talking about the film, Hiddleston also compared it to one of the most popular King adaptations, The Shawshank Redemption!

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

Hiddleston is playing Chuck, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars) playing a character named Albie.

Tom Hiddleston Leads the Cast in Stephen King’s ‘The Life of Chuck’: Latest Additions Unveiled!

Horror enthusiasts have another reason to celebrate as Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Life of Chuck‘ takes shape. Initially teasing fans with big names such as Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, and Karen Gillan, the excitement intensified with the inclusion of horror legends Heather Langenkamp and Matthew Lillard.

It’s interesting to note that this isn’t the first collaboration between Flanagan and Langenkamp. They previously teamed up for Netflix’s ‘The Midnight Club,’ which aired back in 2022. While Langenkamp’s return to Flanagan’s fold has garnered attention, the addition of Matthew Lillard, famed for roles in ‘Scream’ and ‘Thirteen Ghosts,’ further beefs up the roster.

And the surprises don’t end there. Mia Sara, remembered fondly from ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Out,’ makes a significant comeback after a hiatus from the limelight. Others joining the project include David Dastmalchian, Harvey Guillén, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Antonio Raul Corbo,...

‘Poupelle of Chimney Town’ Review: A Distinctive Believe-in-Yourself Anime for Kids
Image
“Poupelle of Chimney Town” begins where “Toy Story 3” ends, with a daring escape from a dangerous garbage incinerator. You see, it’s not always easy to tell the trash from the treasure in Chimney Town, a richly imagined steampunk metropolis where smokestacks crowd the skyline, belching so much thick black haze into the air that an entire generation of soot-covered townspeople has ceased to believe in the stars. The lone exception, a bobble-headed boy named Lubicchi (Antonio Raul Corbo), is always looking up, determined to prove to everyone that there’s something beyond all that “smoky smoke.”

To prove his theory, this pint-sized Galileo’s gonna need help, and he finds it in the form of an unlikely friend, magically brought to life one night from the local landfill — a literal “garbage man” he decides to call Poupelle. This stinky scarecrow-looking character might not seem like the most appealing of companions,...
