David Callanan(I)
- Actor
David is an actor and voice-over artist who grew up in Boston with a love of TV, films, and entertainers. He made his first onstage appearance in first grade and sang a solo in the Christmas Cantata. Before becoming a professional actor, David was a musician. Always a dramatic performer it was acting in music videos that eventually led him to realize his dream of a career as a film actor might be within reach. He also spent years as a sportscaster for HS Hockey on CATV and began to work as a professional actor after taking a chance at an open call for Black Mass. After being onset for only three days, he realized that becoming a film actor was his true calling. Only a few weeks later, he auditioned for a principal role in Spotlight. David had a call back where the director encouraged him to pursue film acting professionally. Since then he has had trained in Boston and online with coaches and in workshops and continues working toward that big break.
Training in Boston and working in over a dozen films, in scenes with some of SAGs finest actors, has been an exciting and rewarding learning experience for David and he received his first screen credit in Chappaquiddick. His personal acting breakthrough ironically was not in film but by doing theatre as the lead in a play where he gained invaluable stage acting experience. The run of the play was so well received that it was adapted into a feature film in which David starred with a great cast from Ashland Community Theatre. The film was Best Comedy\Drama at the Nor'Easter Awards 2018. David also composed and contributed the theme song used for this film and others.
The Green Room is the title of a TV pilot created, written, and directed by David. It was produced by the good folks at WACA who supplied the crews, studios, and encouragement to make it a reality. Performances were filmed at the Marconi Theatre and used in a program that combined the late-night variety style with Entertainment news. David hosted interviews with artists and also produced exposes, filmed on-location, highlighting interesting local actors, musicians, artists and craftsman and how they've turned their artistic passions into a business. Post-production was impacted by Covid and the release of this pilot has been delayed.
David is an artist with a wide range of interests including film, music, screen writing, filmmaking, photography, and graphic arts. He enjoys the outdoors, swimming, skiing, working out, and hiking to the car to go to the beach with his wife, family, friends and his dogs. He also enjoys traveling and continues to work and pursue film opportunities both in and outside of the Boston area.
