Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Tougen Anki Episode 4.
After a slightly disappointing streak of episodes, I wasn’t expecting much from Tougen Anki episode 4, but it still managed to surprise me, and most of these surprises came from a teacher carrying an umbrella on rollerblades. While the series continues to copy the most stereotypical Shonen tropes, Naito Mudano was the only thing that stood out and thus stole the spotlight.
The moment he entered the bloody tag match and took things under control, I couldn’t take my eyes off him as he had a calming authority combined with his quirky umbrella weapon. I mean it’s rare for a mentor character to feel organic and fresh, even though the entire story is just formed around typical clichés.
His no-nonsense energy in terms of dealing with his own students made me forget about the test and focus on...

Japanese director Kawase Naomi’s drama “Yakushima’s Illusion” (“L’Illusion de Yakushima”), starring Vicky Krieps, will world premiere at the upcoming Locarno Film Festival as a late addition to the competition.
Naomi, who is Japan’s best-known female film director, has been keeping a relatively low profile on the international festival circuit since 2022, when she was accused of bullying her company staff and assaulting a member of her film crew. The issue was resolved out of court.
“Yakushima’s Illusion,” which is Naomi’s first feature since her 2020 adoption drama “True Mothers,” is the tale of Corry, a French coordinator of pediatric heart transplants – played by Krieps – who is sent to Japan where organ donation remains taboo.
“As she fights to save a young boy, her partner Jin, a photographer from Yakushima, suddenly vanishes. He becomes a ‘Johatsu,’ as the Japanese call the 80,000 people who disappear overnight each year.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Tougen Anki episode 3.
When I first started watching Tougen Anki, I had high hopes and expected it to make a strong first impression. But the first two episodes did little to win me over. Just as I was about to give up on it entirely, episode three finally delivered something that piqued my interest and got me a little bit excited for the story.
What really stood out to me was how this episode took its sweet time to explain the Blood Release techniques, which were really needed if you haven’t read the manga. Until now, they were just mysteriously bloody attacks without any logic behind them. Also, the fact that this explanation came from a blood tag match and Shiki’s inability to use these Blood techniques made up for an interesting storyline.
Don’t get me wrong, the episode was still a hit and miss,...

With only 2 episodes left in the second season of Bitch X Rich, the drama’s being dialed all the way up, and everything feels like it’s in 5th gear. The second season so far has been quite messy in my opinion, and I can’t really tell what they’re going for, what kind of message they’re trying to send, and if we’re only meant to root for Je-Na out of all the people here. Because literally everybody else is unlikable in this situation. Even Hye-In doesn’t have anything interesting to say. These last two episodes especially seem to be going round and round without giving us any actual answers. We already know who pushed Si-Eun and who pushed Hae-In, but how do they get revenge? It seems like the bad guys keep winning, and don’t get me started on Jin-Wook. The man’s got...

Avatar Legends: City of Echoes
By Judy L. Lin
320 pages/Amulet Books/$21.99
I know this much about The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, so I approached this first novel in what is being billed as the Avatar: Legends series. Is the title intended to be about stories set in and around the Avatar series, or is the legend in question the protagonist in this Young Adult novel? That’s open to interpretation.
Set in Ba Sing Se, the last major city in the Earth Kingdom, mainly in the Lower Ring, we come across refugees from the atrocities committed by the Fire Nation, as they seemingly rampage across the world. The Avatar is nowhere to be seen and is rumored to be dead. We focus on Jun, a sixteen-year-old whose family has been lost, so she and her grandfather take refuge wherever they can. She enrolls in school, utilizing...

Ghost of Yotei is still a few months away, but this hasn’t stopped the developers from sharing new information about the highly anticipated project. Sucker Punch Productions struck gold with the exploration system of the original game and the conservative heads-up display. Jin was told that his father would be his guiding wind in his adventures, and it would never lead him astray.
The developers made good with that feature by adding a guiding wind mechanic to point you in the right direction by swiping up on the touchpad. For this new adventure, Atsu will have a similar, but much more artistic way of being guided to new locations and points of interest through the sound of music.
The Sound of Music Will Be Atsu’s Guiding Wind in Ghost of Yotei Exploration and traversal will be much more rewarding in the Ghost of Yotei.

The Last of Us Season 2 perfectly mirrored how the source material was received by fans when it originally released. While the showrunners may have recreated a few scenes from the game, it ultimately fell flat, and the gaming community couldn’t be more upset about how the show fell from grace after a stellar first season.
It didn’t take long for fans to showcase their creativity and even one-up the live-action adaptation in more than one way. Perhaps the showrunners should consider taking notes before working on the third season, focused on Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby Anderson.

Ghost of Yotei is almost here, and it is set up as a spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima, which was released back in July 2020. To say that this game has a monumental amount of hype riding with it would be an understatement, and Ghost of Yotei is so far shaping up to be a grand time.
Both games are from Sucker Punch Productions and feature feudal Japan as their setting. Superficial similarities and differences aside, there do exist quite a few things you might have missed at first glance during the nearly 20-minute long State of Play presentation that took place yesterday.

The Ghost of Yotei was the focus of the latest State of Play, and the developers shared a handful of new information about the world-building and gameplay. As a sequel to the original game, fans had high hopes that the combat and feel would be the same, but better in every way. The few clips shown during the deep dive exhibited that this title took plenty of inspiration from the first game and other related projects.

Our long, international nightmare is over. K-pop superstars BTS, on hiatus since 2022 for their mandatory South Korean military service, reunited for a livestream on the Weverse fan platform to talk about future plans for more music.
The big news coming out of the livestream was that the band expects to put out a new album next spring ahead of a world tour, their first since the Love Yourself World Tour in 2018 and 2019. Their plan is to begin working on new music in the U.S. later this month, when Jin has a series of solo dates over here.
So realistically, when are we looking at new music from BTS?
At this point, it's difficult to gauge. If we're going off of their most recent studio album output and the timing around promotional singles for those, a rough timeline begins to appear.
The most recent full-length album, Be, was preceded by standalone single "Dynamite,...

With only one episode left, Shinichiro Watanabe’s Lazarus seems to be a lost cause at this point. Chad Stahelski handled the action, whereas Watanabe brought his directorial vision to the table. It has everything from great music to stunning animation, but it’s still quite forgettable. The reason could be the stark contradiction between the director’s specific style and the premise of the show.
Somehow, Lazarus doesn’t check off any of the boxes that make Watanabe’s works so revered among fans. And even if it does, the chemistry between the different elements is sadly amiss. That makes one wonder: what went so wrong with the anime?

With every episode, Lazarus takes itself further from redemption. A few episodes in, fans knew that something was incredibly off about the anime. There was still hope that it would redeem itself. The plot will pick up pace, and the ending will make the drag of an experience worth it. Now, with only one episode left, all these hopes have been shattered and buried.
Many fans argued that if only the anime had more episodes, then maybe things would have fallen into place. That might not be true, because the anime has a tone-deaf problem. The premise of Lazarus is simply not appropriate for Shinichiro Watanabe’s directorial style, and that problem can’t be solved by simply increasing the number of episodes.
The number of episodes was never the issue with Lazarus

Even now, six years after Game of Thrones aired its divisive final season, the series stands out as the greatest major pop-culture phenomenon in the history of genre television. Everyone and their mother were watching and discussing Arya, Sansa, Jon, Dany, and all the rest in their offices, classrooms, gyms, pubs, and schools. People wrote long articles about their expectations for the final seasons of the once-in-a-generation series. At its peak, its viewership was in the tens of millions and spanned the entire globe. To this day, Game of Thrones remains one of the most pirated TV shows ever, as avid fans tried to get around the need for an HBO subscription, or the limited availability of the world’s most engaging television show in their country or region.

The reality television landscape often builds its foundations on predictable formats, but occasionally a series erects a structure so strange it demands attention. Kian’s Bizarre B&b presents such a case. The show’s narrative is set in motion by a simple, high-concept premise: popular webtoon artist Kian84 is given a budget to construct and operate the guesthouse of his wildest imaginings.

Among the genres that South Korean TV shows, or K-dramas, particularly excel at are stylish crime thrillers, often taking their cues from American pop culture. Indeed, one of the more popular sources of inspiration in this regard is the work of the filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who's always had visual flair when it comes to staging the action set pieces to his movies, especially his two-part revenge epic "Kill Bill." To be sure, certain K-dramas have been visibly influenced by Tarantino's storytelling sensibilities, especially the 2024 series "A Shop for Killers." Currently available to stream on Hulu, the show puts its own uniquely South Korean twist on outlandish contract killers with plenty of pizzazz.
"A Shop for Killers" follows Jeong Ji-an (Kim Hye-jun), an orphan who was raised by her uncle, Jeong Jin-man (Lee Dong-wook), after her parents died. However, when Jin-man suddenly passes away and leaves the seemingly normal...

They’re back. Or at least… almost all the way back. For ARMYs who’ve been counting down the days, the BTS military chapter is officially closing, and the world is bracing itself for what comes next. The past couple of years have been a weird mix of solo glow-ups, heartfelt letters, livestreamed goodbyes, and Jin saluting the nation with his signature smile. While each member’s enlistment felt like a punch to the gut, it also became a quiet flex, watching them thrive in their own lanes while always keeping the purple thread intact.
