‘Wicked’ Star Marissa Bode, Tony Nominee Julia Lester to Star in Inevitable Foundation’s Visionary Fellowship Short Films (Exclusive)

“Wicked” star Marissa Bode and Tony nominee Julia Lester are among the actors lending their talents to the short films by Inevitable Foundation’s Visionary Fellowship filmmakers.

The year-long program provides disabled filmmakers with the funding, community and guidance to create a short film that could eventually be made into their debut feature. The inaugural cohort of fellows — Zayre Ferrer, Monica Lucas, Filipe Coutinho, Alys Murray and Katherine Craft — each received $55,000 in funding for their short film, as well as a production grant, access to an experienced crew, health insurance, marketing support and financial aid for access and travel.

Production on the shorts is underway in neighborhoods across Los Angeles and will continue through the end of June. Casting is by Danielle Pretsfelder Demchick, CSA, and Elizabeth Hay, CSA.

The television vulture has caught up to The Villains of Valley View. According to Deadline, Disney Channel has cancelled the live-action comedy series after two seasons on the cable network.

Isabella Pappas, Malachi Barton, Reed Horstmann, Kayden Muller-Janssen, James Patrick Stuart, and Lucy Davis star in the series, which follows a family of supervillains who have gone into hiding and live as a suburban family. Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore created the series.

“The Villains of Valley View” has been canceled after two seasons at Disney Channel, according to series co-creator and executive producer Chris Peterson.

“All good things must come to an end… and after two incredible seasons such is the case with ‘The Villains of Valley View,'” Peterson wrote in a statement posted on X Wednesday night. “We’re beyond grateful to our amazing cast, writing staff and crew. We also want to thank all the loyal fans. You made us part of your family and you’ll forever be part of ours.”

Peterson continued, “While it was never our intention to end the series on a cliffhanger, we hope that Amy, Hartley and the Maddens will live on in your hearts (and on Disney+) forever.”

The multi-cam comedy show, which hails from Disney Branded Television, follows a family of supervillains forced to hide their powers and adopt “normalcy” in suburbia.

Disney Channel has officially canceled The Villains of Valley View ten months after the live-action comedy’s second season ended its run on the network. Chris Peterson, who co-created and executive produced the series with Bryan Moore, shared the news on X.

“While it was never our intention to end the series on a cliffhanger, we hope that Amy, Hartley and the Maddens will live on in your hearts (and on Disney+) forever,” Peterson wrote in his message to fans. (You can read it in full below.)

Disney Branded Television has been overhauling Disney Channel’s lineup of live-action sitcoms. Over the past year, a number of series came to an end, including Bunk’d, Raven’s Home and Secrets Of Sulphur Springs. The Villains of Valley View was the last remaining ongoing live-action comedy, with the first one under the new programming direction, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, set to debut later this month.

Exclusive: Disney Channel has greenlighted half-hour live-action comedy pilot Amy from Amarillo (working title). After a wide search, young actress Isabella Pappas (Finding Alice) has landed the title role. She is joined by Lucy Davis, coming off her role as Hilda Spellman in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Also cast in the pilot are General Hospital veteran James Patrick Stuart, Bones alumna Patricia Belcher, Kayden Muller-Janssen, Malachi Barton and Reed Horstmann (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia).

Did the teen genius see this coming? Netflix has cancelled the Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love comedy series. There won't be a second season but, the multi-camera sitcom's not over quite yet.

Created by Mario Lopez and Seth Kurland, Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love stars Paulina Chávez, Conor Husting, Bella Podaras, Reed Horstmann, and Jencarlos Canela. The series revolves around Ashley Garcia (Chávez), the world’s only 15-and-a-half-year-old rocket scientist and robotics genius engineer. She gets the chance to work for a prestigious company and moves across the country to live with her fun-loving Uncle Victor (Canela), a pro football player turned high school coach who has a hard time with responsibility. The series is also known as The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia.

The first (and only) season of the show has been released in parts.

‘Big Show Show,’ ‘Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love’ to End With Christmas Specials on Netflix

Both “The Big Show Show” and “Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love” have not been renewed at Netflix.

However, both multi-camera comedies taped Christmas specials prior to the pandemic, with both set to air this December. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, both specials are standalone episodes and do not continue the storylines from the prior episodes.

“The Big Show Show” starred WWE star Paul “The Big Show” Wight as a fictionalized version of himself living with his wife and three daughters. The series also starred Allison Munn,Reylynn Caster, Juliet Donenfeld, and Lily Brooks O’Briant.

Produced by WWE Studios, Josh Bycel and Jason Berger served as executive producers and showrunners. Susan Levison and Richard Lowell served as executive producers for WWE Studios.
