One thing Lucy Foley wants people to know about her latest novel, The Midnight Feast, is despite similarities in theme and plot with The White Lotus (a murder at a secluded, upscale hotel; class tensions between the staff and the guest; a hotel proprietor who seems on the verge of a breakdown at any moment), her book is definitely not inspired by the popular HBO drama. “It sounds like I’m protesting too much, but I did I have the idea for this book before The White Lotus came out,” she says with a laugh. “But I’m also loving leaning into their similarities, especially because it results in a lot of people recommending my book.”

The idea for The Midnight Feast, Foley’s fourth thriller, came from the best-selling author’s own life. Shortly after Foley moved from London to the English countryside after growing up in Sussex, a...

Sue Naegle, Ali Krug Set Up Shop at Universal Content Productions
Image
Sue Naegle and Ali Krug are re-teaming for a new venture.

The former Annapurna duo and longtime collaborators have launched Dinner Party Productions and signed a multiple-year overall deal with Universal Content Productions.

Naegle, the former content chief at Megan Ellison’s company, and Krug, who was co-head of TV alongside her at Annapurna, will develop and produce new projects for UCP for both NBCUniversal-owned platforms as well as third-party buyers.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Naegle and Krug — who have worked together for 13 years — said the appeal of being able to sell to outside buyers was part of why they wanted to sign with the Beatrice Springborn-led division that is housed within Pearlena Igbokwe’s Universal Studio Group. (Read the Q&a, below.)

As part of the pact, Naegle and Krug have boarded Peacock’s adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-seller The Five-Star Weekend.

The 2017 fantasy horror novel by Lavalle follows the story of new father Apollo Kagwa as he settles into fatherhood. ‘Dead Ringers’ Star Rachel Weisz Says New TV Adaptation ‘Twisted,’ But Also ‘Darkly Humorous’
Image
Rachel Weisz is both executive producer and star of Amazon Prime Video’s limited series “Dead Ringers.”

“It’s a psychosexual thriller about codependence,” the Oscar-winner told Variety at the show’s New York City premiere. “It’s twisted and entertaining and darkly humorous.”

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 classic film, Weisz plays twin doctors who share an unapologetic desire to push the boundaries on medical ethics as they challenge antiquated birthing practices to bring women’s health care to the forefront.

Simultaneously juggling the characters of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, the sisters are gender-swapped in the remake of the movie that starred Jeremy Irons as the twin doctors.

As a producer, Weisz says she was “involved in it from beginning to end” with Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch, who served as showrunner.

“It has been a great joy working with Alice these past three years. It has been a journey,...

“Dead Ringers” Official Trailer – Prime Video Puts a Fresh Spin on a Cronenberg Classic
Image
Morgan Creek Entertainment is bringing David Cronenberg‘s Dead Ringers to the small screen, with Rachel Weisz starring in and exec producing the adaptation. The limited series will be hitting Prime Video on April 21, and the official trailer has arrived today.

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers will feature Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront. All six episodes premiere April 21 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Rachel Weisz also serves as an executive producer for the limited series, which is created, written, and executive produced by Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch (Normal People, Succession,...

‘Dead Ringers’ Trailer: Rachel Weisz Is Double the Trouble in David Cronenberg Remake
Image
What’s better than Rachel Weisz? Two Rachel Weiszes. The Oscar-winning actor is playing twins in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Dead Ringers” series, and the streamer now has double the footage with the release of the full official trailer for the show.

The series is based on David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller film, which starred Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, identical twin brothers who run a successful Obgyn clinic. Weisz plays gender-flipped versions of Beverly and Elliot, but the twin’s disturbingly close relationship — down to sharing lovers and drugs — remains intact. The trailer, set to Soft Cell’s 1981 synth cover of “Tainted Love,” teases a very different storyline compared to the original film, focusing on the twin’s experiments to change the very way women can give birth — pushing against basic medical ethics in the process.

“You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing?...

‘Dead Ringers': Rachel Weisz Takes Radical Feminism to the Extreme in Trailer for Prime Video Series (Video)
David Cronenberg
The first official trailer for Prime Video’s modern take on David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers” has arrived, with the feminist twist we’ve been craving.

As twins and gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle (both played by Rachel Weisz) make it their mission to reimagine what birthing could look like for women, the twins try their hand at playing God by creating life outside of the bounds of traditional science.

“My sister and I do work that is groundbreaking but hopeful, radical but safe,” one of the twins says in the trailer for the six-episode psychological thriller series. “I want to change the way that women birth; it is world-changing … You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing, let’s make it happen.”

Though the pair set their sights on modernizing women’s health care by challenging antiquated practices, they fall into a morally gray area of...

‘Dead Ringers’ Trailer: Rachel Weisz Stars In Dual Lead Roles In Psychological Thriller Series — Update
Image
Updated, 7 Am: Prime Video has released the trailer for Dead Ringers, its upcoming psychological thriller limited series starring Rachel Weisz in dual lead roles. Watch it above.

Previous, March 28: The official trailer for Dead Ringers, Prime Video’s upcoming psychological thriller limited series starring Rachel Weisz, has been delayed for a day in light of the Nashville school shooting which left three children and three adults dead. The release was delayed out of respect for the families and victims of the tragedy, not due to the content of the series or trailer, which does not involve a shooting.

Dead Ringers, a reimagining with a gender swap of David Cronenberg’s cult classic 1980s film, stars Weisz in the lead dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle. They are twin gynocologists who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries on...
