Percy Jackson Season 2 Reveals First Original Character, Alison Simms
Image
The new teaser for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 features a character many longtime fans struggle to remember from the books, but Alison Simms (portrayed by Beatrice Kitsos) is actually brand-new for the Disney+ series.

Little has been revealed about this new character that is not in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson novels, but the information fans do have opens up some interesting avenues that the show can bring The Sea of Monsters' story on.

Alison is a former Camp Half-Blood camper who aged out of the location and is now living her adult life. She ends up joining up with Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell) in his quest to destroy the gods, fighting on the side of Kronos.

Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan shares exciting update about the show’s Disney+ future
Image
Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 isn't coming to Disney+ anytime soon, but Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson book series, is sharing more good news with fans this spring.

Riordan revealed on Goodreads that he's "guardedly optimistic" about the Percy Jackson season running for five seasons on Disney+ and covering all five books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series.

Here's what Riordan said, via Collider:

"I'm guardedly optimistic about future seasons. No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we're certainly off to a great start! All I can say for certain is that everyone involved is hoping and assuming that we will have the full five-season arc, but we'll just have to wait and see. As for how fast they will come out, the hope is certainly that we can pick up the pace of release dates,...

Percy Jackson And The Olympians Season 2: Everything We Know
Image
Disney+'s Percy Jackson and The Olympians brings all the mythical action to life in season 1, and now it has been renewed for season 2. Based on the best-selling series of young adult novels by author Rick Riordan, the TV show follows young Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he comes to grips with the revelation that he is a demi-god, and attempts to assimilate into the world of myths and legends. Noted for its close adherence to Riordan's novels, Disney+'s take on the story attempts to rectify many of the problems of the failed film series from the 2010s.

With so much care put into the first season, it comes as no surprise that Percy Jackson and The Olympians has received glowing reviews that speak to the overall quality of the production. While season 1 is still fresh in the minds of fans, speculation has begun about the future of Disney+'s latest hit,...

‘Percy Jackson’ Adds Rosemarie DeWitt, Aleks Paunovic in Key Guest Roles (Exclusive)
Rosemarie DeWitt at an event for Sweet Virginia (2017)
Season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is adding to its cast, including two actors set for important guest roles.

Rosemarie DeWitt (The Boys, Mad Men) will guest star as C.C., and Aleks Paunovic (Snowpiercer, Van Helsing) has signed on to play the cyclops Polyphemus. Beatrice Kitsos (iZombie) and Kevin Chacon (Jessica Jones) will have recurring roles as demigods aligned with Luke (Charlie Bushnell).

DeWitt’s C.C. is a stylish and composed New Age guru-type whom Percy (Walker Scobell) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) encounter in their quest to find the Golden Fleece. She radiates warmth and empathy, but readers of The Sea of Monsters — the book on which season two is based — know there’s more to her than that.

Polyphemus is an ancient cyclops who was blinded by Odysseus long ago. He now tends animals and jealously guards the Golden Fleece on his private island.

10 Best Horror TV Shows of All Time
Image
Although the horror genre isn't every viewer's cup of tea, one thing is undeniable: no genre does a better job of eliciting a visceral and genuine emotional reaction from an audience. It's one thing to keep the scares coming during a two-hour movie, but it takes even more skill to keep an audience hiding behind their hands for an entire season (or more).

From the sociological shocks provided by the anthology shows of the '60s to today's more prevalent use of the limited series fright fests, many of television's best series are also its most terrifying. From vampire slayers to graciously polite serial killers with a taste for human flesh and everything in between, here are the ten best horror TV shows ever created.

Related 10 Most Underrated Horror TV Shows Everyone is familiar with horror TV shows like American Horror Story and Stranger Things. Here are horror series that don't get enough attention.

It Lives Inside Ending Explanation
Image
Hollywood doubled down on demonic possession in 2023, tapping into the genre's lasting appeal with films like Evil Dead Rise. It Lives Inside takes a unique twist on the possession sub-genre, blending Hindu traditions and supernatural battles for Samidha's soul. The film's bittersweet ending leaves Samidha as the vessel for the malevolent demon, setting up a potential sequel with a cold, cruel twist.

The following contains spoilers for It Lives Inside.

Throughout 2023, Hollywood leaned into the demonic possession genre harder than usual. Horror fans reveled in Russell Crowe's Father Gabriele Amorth in The Pope's Exorcist, not to mention, Evil Dead Rise, which terrified audiences with the latest generation of Deadites. These films reinforced the idea that this niche sub-genre is one studios think audiences will always flock to, and rightfully so. Such films usually do well at the box office, despite critics usually panning their ilk as a rule.

It Lives Inside: Megan Suri horror film reaches DVD in November
Megan Suri in It Lives Inside (2023)
The supernatural horror film It Lives Inside, which stars Megan Suri of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, didn’t draw in many viewers when it reached theatres last Friday. It had an opening weekend of $2.6 million and finished in seventh place on the top 10. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video – and we can confirm that Distribution Solutions, a division of Alliance Entertainment, will be giving the film a DVD release on November 7th. Copies are available for pre-order at This Link. We don’t have any information on a Blu-ray or 4K release at this time, but Amazon is also accepting pre-orders for the Prime Video digital release.

It’s a shame It Lives Inside didn’t have better box office, as it was good enough to earn an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols. That review can be read Here. The film...

‘It Lives Inside’ Trailer #2 Delivers the Chills
Image
Neon’s second trailer for It Lives Inside is incredibly creepy without being too spoiler-ish. Written and directed by Bishal Dutta, the PG-13 horror film is a unique twist on a demonic possession story.

“It Lives Inside emerged as an image: a kid on a bike, riding through Rockwellian suburbs. It’s right out of an early Amblin film. But what if this kid was escaping a puja, her school outfit wrapped in an ornate dupatta? For me, that image spoke to the duality I felt growing up as a first-generation immigrant in America. ‘Where do I belong? Which country is my home? Which world is ultimately mine?'” explained Dutta.

The cast includes Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, Gage Marsh, Beatrice Kitsos, and Betty Gabriel.

Get Out‘s Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick served as producers. Edward H. Hamm Jr, Jameson Parker, Arielle Boisvert, and Shawn Williamson executive produce.

‘It Lives Inside’ Horror Film Sets a September Release
Image
Neon’s set a September 22, 2023 theatrical release date for the creepy horror film It Lives Inside. The coming-of-age horror debuted at SXSW and took home the Midnighter Audience Award.

The trailer shows two Indian teenagers going face-to-face with a demonic creature, and writer/director Bishal Dutta says his inspiration came from growing up on American horror movies.

“After I moved to North America from India at the age of four, a lot of my social education came from watching American horror films. I always wondered, what were families like mine doing while Bruce the shark tore through Amity’s waters, while Freddy Krueger slashed teenagers in the dreamscape, and while Jack Torrance chased his son through the maze-like halls of the Overlook?’ As it developed, It Lives Inside formed its own dual identity much like mine,” explained Dutta. “On one hand, it is a love letter to the community and...

The Midnight Society’s campfire was restoked—figuratively and literally—for the 2019 Halloween season by Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-episode miniseries, which enticed audiences old and new for more chilling exploits from a new generation of the classic kid coterie of scare-chasers. Thus, the network subsequently greenlit Season 2, this time for six episodes, which begin their weekly run in February.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows is the title of Season 2, indicating that the series will again eschew its classic single-episode story format to utilize the entirety of a season to tell one epic story, having moved on from the 2019 miniseries storyline centered on demented ringmaster Mr. Tophat and his Carnival of Doom. Moreover, we’re already getting an all-new Midnight Society; a lineup tasked with pursuing a mysterious creature called the Shadowman.

Image
One of my favorite viewing experiences this year was finally catching up on Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, and while I'm bummed that the characters from the first season won't be returning, I'm still thrilled to see whatever the new Midnight Society cooks up next around the campfire.

You can check out the new trailer below (from Nickelodeon's official Twitter account), and we also have an excerpt from the official press release for the new season that will...

‘Child’s Play’ Review – Second Opinion
Stars: Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson, Marlon Kazadi, Ty Consiglio, Beatrice Kitsos, David Lewis, Anantjot S. Aneja | Written by Tyler Burton Smith | Directed by Lars Klevberg

Child’s Play, directed by Lars Klevberg, is the long-awaited remake/reimagining to the 1988 film of the same name directed by Tom Holland. Klevberg film has caused quite the stir within the internal fan base of the Chucky franchise as original director Holland and stars of the series Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly who have publicly voiced criticism and frustration at this 2019 rendition due to the original franchise still a living breathing property, with a brand new TV series on the horizon.

Klevberg’s reimagined feature of the cult classic is a dumb and laughably bad horror and an otherwise bland and completely forgettable remake. The stand out is, of course, the performance of Aubrey Plaza who brings...

Film Review: Less Black Magic, More Black Mirror Succeeds in 'Child's Play'
Chicago – There are some fears in this world that seem irrational to us. Like a fear of clowns or the fear of using an elevator. Horror films are at the core of some of these fears, with the truly great ones creating new things to fear. The “Child’s Play” franchise may have had its roots in psychopathic soul transfers, but the update focuses on the ghost in the machine.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

There is nothing that can ever or will ever come close to replacing Don Mancini’s iconic “Child’s Play” saga, and luckily this reboot doesn’t even consider trying. Even the worst of the films were absolute products of their time. The poorly-aged humor and very early-2000s narrative aesthetic clearly mark each of them, like a cinematic brand etched into each installment. For better or worse, this cinematic universe has reached cult status, especially in its own mind.

‘Child’s Play’ Review: A Horror Remake More Intriguing Than Worthwhile
It’s not every day we see a remake of a currently running franchise, but now there is Child’s Play. While original screenwriter Don Mancini continues to advance the escapades of his version’s murderous doll possessed by a serial killer’s soul (most recently in 2017’s Cult of Chucky with a SyFy television show arriving in 2020), MGM and United Artists decided to flex their legal retention of ownership by branching off anew. After Mancini unsurprisingly declined to provide them his seal of approval—brand confusion is definitely not something he’d willingly condone—the project moved forward under the stewardship of writer Tyler Burton Smith and director Lars Klevberg. Thankfully, they knew to make it their own.

Whether a result of needing to stick solely to what was kept in the divorce or an actual desire to cut a fresh path, the only similarity between Mancini’s horror...

Child’s Play Review: Remake is a Plastic Copy
This modern reboot captures some of the original franchise’s manic dark energy but fails to transfer it into a worthy movie.

Every time Mark Hamill’s Chucky asks “Are we having fun now?” in the new Child’s Play, it’s a guaranteed chortler. The voice actor is clearly having a ball, adding another potential franchised cadence to his already impressive roster. And the quasi-catchphrase comes at points of increasingly absurd juxtaposition, as this earnest doll asks for friendship while gripping a butcher’s knife. In moments like these, it’s fun. But worth sitting through a whole movie? You might want to look into the lifetime warranty on this thing.

A little over 30 years after the original Chucky terrorized his owner and millions of children, the long-running Child’s Play series is getting a redesign—most notably without franchise creator Don Mancini and voice-of-Chucky Brad Dourif.

‘Child’s Play’ Review (2019)
Stars: Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson, Marlon Kazadi, Ty Consiglio, Beatrice Kitsos, David Lewis, Anantjot S. Aneja | Written by Tyler Burton Smith | Directed by Lars Klevberg

This reboot / remake of 1988′s killer doll movie Child’s Play is in an unusual position because the original franchise is still continuing under creator Don Mancini. Although they now go straight to DVD, the previous Chucky film (Cult of Chucky) was released as recently as 2017, but a complex rights issue means that a rival studio retains the rights to the property, meaning the franchise has effectively branched into two.. Needless to say, there’s a certain amount of controversy surrounding the new reboot’s release and fans of the franchise are already up in arms. However, though die-hard fans may choose to boycott, this is a serviceable reboot that could well end up earning Chucky a whole new fanbase.

Don Mancini at an event for Seed of Chucky (2004)
‘Child’s Play’ Film Review: The Old Doll’s Still Got a Little Life in New Reboot
Don Mancini at an event for Seed of Chucky (2004)
Well, here’s a conundrum: die-hard devotees of any aging franchise are the audience most likely to embrace each new resurrection. But in the case of the 31-year-old “Child’s Play” series, many fans have been outraged by the fact that creator Don Mancini and voice-of-Chucky Brad Dourif were conspicuously replaced for the new reboot.

Despite the good faith efforts of director Lars Klevberg (“Polaroid”) and writer Tyler Burton Smith, it’s unlikely that this entry will seduce those who loyally followed all seven of Mancini’s previous “Chucky” movies. Indeed, they may want to wait until Mancini’s own, upcoming TV version is released next year. But after 2004’s “Seed of Chucky,” which devolved into go-for-broke absurdity — as did two straight-to-dvd installments that followed — it has to be acknowledged that even sociopathic toys could use an occasional gush of new blood.

In an overt nod to fanboy credibility, Chucky...

“Child’s Play” Remakes Chucky For The Digital Age
There’s an internal struggle going on within the remake of Child’s Play. No, this isn’t existential crisis or indie bent to the horror classic, but a war of tone. Yes, in rebooting Chucky, the filmmakers have mixed a traditional fright flick with a very strange, almost comedic, take on the material. It doesn’t really work, but when it’s being weird, it’s actually a fair amount of fun. Had that offbeat tone been stuck to, this would have been a real pleasant surprise, though sadly it becomes less and less of a factor as the movie wears on. It’s ultimately second rate horror, even if it’s not the disaster it was shaping up to be, just going by the marketing. The film is a modern day update of the original 1988 horror outing Child’s Play. Here, instead of a doll being possessed by...

Aubrey Plaza Went as Chucky from the Child's Play Remake at MTV Movie Awards
Aubrey Plaza
It was just yesterday that we shared Parks and Recreation and Legion star Aubrey Plaza's wild "audition" for Catwoman in Matt Reeve's upcoming The Batman by licking Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. And today we already have yet another fun Aubrey Plaza story for you guys to check out. As many of you know, MTV hosted the MTV Movie and TV Awards recently, and today someone pointed out that during the ceremony, Plaza slapped on a Chucky mask from her upcoming remake of Child's Play Remake. And no one else - including David Spade and Dan Levy - seemed to notice.

Now I'm not going to sit here today and start naming names, but someone I know very well says that she's not a fan of Aubrey Plaza as new Karen Barclay in the upcoming Child's Play remake. This unnamed girl I know says Plaza doesn't look old enough to be a mother.

Chucky Murders 2 More Toy Story Characters in New Child's Play Posters
Chucky continues his Toy Story character murder spree in two new posters that have been released for Child’s Play. In these posters he burns Rex to a crisp and stabs Mr. Potato Head in the head with a knife.

We’ve already seen posters of Chucky killing Woody, Buzz, and Slinky. But, I guess murdering those characters just weren’t enough for him. He really hates Toy Story! Or the Child’s Play marketing team hates Toy Story. Check out both posters below.

The movie stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddy doll for his birthday. Turns out the doll is sinister and primed for killing. The story follows a group of friends as they take on a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world. It’s also been reported that the version of Chucky in this film is "a defective 'Buddy doll'...

Child’s Play Press Conference – Mark Hamill, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry & more
The Child’s Play films have a murky past, particularly here in the UK, but their continued hold on legions of horror fans speaks of a primal fear the film plays heavily on. Automatonphobia has produced some fine horror films over the years, one of the most recent being the cruelly underseen Dead Silence from director James Wan, but Chucky and his friends have come to represent this specific genre for many.

With a new film out in the coming weeks DaniElle DeLaite sat down at the film’s press conference in L. A. to hear all about what makes this film a new beginning.

Mark Hamill, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman and director Lars Klevberg attended the press conference of the retelling of the movie Child’s Play. The Star Wars actor voices the fiendish doll and the film also stars Tim Matheson, David Lewis, Beatrice Kitsos and Trent Redekop.

Exclusive: Brian Tyree Henry on the primal horror of Chucky and Child’s Play
In this video actor Brian Tyree Henry is interviewed by DaniElle DeLaite for the remake version of Child’s Play which has Mark Hamill voice the infamous killer doll Chucky. Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Tim Matheson, David Lewis, Beatrice Kitsos and Trent Redekop also star. The film was directed by Lars Klevberg.

Henry talks about watching the original film and the old Friday the 13th films when he was young, and how he became addicted to them. He also talks about the social context of the original film, and how both the old and the new film taps into something deep in society. He tells us there is something about having children in a horror film that makes it different. He could be right.

Here’s the interview.

Buzz Lightyear Dies By The Hand of Chucky in New Poster For Child's Play
I’m still not exactly sure why the marketing for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot has chucking killing off characters from Pixar’s Toy Story, but it’s making me want to see a crossover movie!

The latest poster features Chucky murdering Buzz Lightyear with his own ray guy. The poster also came with the caption:

“Playtime is never over. Your friend till the end hits the big screen on June 21.”

I really wish Pixar would respond in some way and have some fun with this, but I imagine they don’t want to give the film any kind of marketing, and I understand that. After all, they are killing their iconic characters. It’s all in good fun, though!

New Child's Play Featurette Dives into The Cast and Characters of the Film
Orion Pictures has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Child’s Play and it introduces us to the cast of the film and offers details on the characters that they play. Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman, are all featured in the video. It also shows off some new footage!

Plaza takes on the role of a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddy doll, which turns out to be a murderous killer doll. Andy and his group of friends take on and stop the technologically-advanced defective 'Buddy doll’ which seems to have a taste for blood and violence. When previously talking about why she took on the role, Plaza said:

"I love it so much. To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven’t seen our film, just the trailer, but it’s a real throwback horror movie. It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it.
