Production has officially begun on the second season of Palm Royale!

After debuting earlier this year, the Emmy nominated Apple TV+ series was renewed for a second season in June.

On Wednesday (October 23), the first set photos emerged online as Laura Dern filmed some playful scenes on the beach with her new costar Jaycob Maya in San Pedro, Calif.

For the scenes, Laura wore a long white dress. Her hair was down and adorned with a white flower crown, adding a sense of whimsy to the outfit. Meanwhile, Jaycob went shirtless, wearing a pair of extra-short swim trunks with his hair in loose waves.

We don’t know what role Jaycob will play in the series just yet. However, he was seen running along the beach with Laura and even spinning her in a seemingly flirty moment.

He is the first new star to officially join the cast.

2022 was a big year for Disney+ and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Not only did Marvel Studios release three new shows—Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law—and a collection of animated shorts—I Am Groot—but they also premiered their first special: Werewolf by Night. This one-off story focuses on Jack Russell, a man who in the comics can turn into a bloodthirsty werewolf every three nights of a full moon due to his lycanthropic ancestry. First reported in August 2021 and officially revealed a year later during the Marvel Studios panel at the 2022 D23 expo, Werewolf By Night stars Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) as the title character and Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) as monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone. Werewolf by Night is Marvel Studios' latest release, a special feature that Marvel demigod Kevin Feige insists is something new in the MCU, the first feature to explore the horror side of Marvel's rich stable of characters. The feature stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell, a man who, thanks to his ancestry, turns into a werewolf, a Jack Russell terror if you will, every three nights of a full moon. A number of other characters appear in the special, including monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), her zombified father Ulysses, living stepmother Verusa (Harriet Sansom Harris), and Jake Gomez (Jaycob Maya), who in the comics is another Werewolf by Night. And one more: Man-Thing, a large swamp creature.

At this moment, no streamer is having more fun with its combination of boundless programming real estate, boundless money and boundless IP than Disney+. Whether it’s six-hour commercials — err… “documentaries” — for Disney-adjacent properties or five-minute animated shorts built around various beloved characters, it’s never entirely clear when the thing premiering on Disney+ is going to be an ongoing series, limited series, feature-length movie or nebulously unspecified “special.”

In that latter category, Disney+ dropped the generally inconsistent Muppets Haunted Mansion last October. It continued the company’s baffling ongoing struggle to figure out smart things to do with the seemingly endlessly fungible Muppets franchise, but at only 49 minutes and still packed with appealing moments, it felt like exactly the sort of small, jeopardy-free swing Disney should be taking.

The same is true of this October’s Disney+ Halloween season special, Werewolf by Night.
