Star Trek was revolutionary for television when it first aired in 1966. It brought serious science fiction into the homes of millions with effects that—at the time—were remarkable for television. Of course, the budget and the available technology still presented limitations for what could be shown. Even today, there are limits to what Star Trek can show on screen.
Audio is a medium where these limits are simply not an issue. Over the past several years, we have seen a growing resurgence of audio dramas, after the radio drama format had all but died out in the mid-20th Century, after the advent of television. Although fans have made amateur Star Trek audio dramas earlier, the upcoming Star Trek: Khan is the first official audio addition to the series.

In Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, Alison Pill played cyberneticist Agnes Jurati, a role she reprised for Season 2, but with a bit of a different take. At the end of Season 2 of Picard, Jurati was assimilated by the Borg, becoming a new, not-so-evil Borg Queen. Now, per Screen Rant, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress says she’d come back to Trek if she were called.
Pill is currently starring in Young Werther, a romantic comedy from director José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço. She said she’s not under any type of contract to return but would be open to the prospect of coming back to the Star Trek franchise.
“If I was on a retainer, I could pay my mortgage and just wait for Star Trek to call!” Pill said. “Then I could spend summers eating gelato! No, there is no retainer. But I would happily revisit Jurati Borg Queen any time.

In William Shatner's film "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," the U.S.S. Enterprise is hijacked by a hippie Vulcan cult leader named Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) and flown to the very center of the Milky Way. In reality, the galaxy's center is the site of a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A*. In "Frontier," Sybok believes it's where God lives. Not a spiritual conduit to God, mind you, but the actual physical body of God Himself. Kirk (Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) think Sybok is mad, but are dragged along in his mad scheme.
When the Enterprise arrives at its destination, however, it seems for a few moments that Sybok is right. He and the Enterprise crew encounter and land on a mysterious planet, and God Himself (George Murdock) appears. Everyone is awestruck ... except for Kirk. When God asks the mortal characters for a starship to spread His Word,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #3!In the Star Trek universe, first contact is always a dicey proposition, and ancient Vulcans prove how it has changed over time. In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #3, Spock receives a vision of Illryia’s distant past - a past where they met the Vulcans. At this point in history, the Vulcans had not yet embraced the philosophy of logic, leading to a much different type of first contact.
The issue, written by Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson, drawn by Megan Levens, colored by Charlie Kirchoff and lettered by Neil Uyetake, opens with Spock (now genetically modified to be stone) finding what appears to be an abandoned Vulcan temple on Illyria. After entering, Spock is seemingly transported back to the planet’s distant past, where he finds the ancient Illyrians welcoming a Vulcan delegation. Spock...

In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #4, Pike must make a difficult moral decision that could have long-term ramifications for both his imprisoned First Officer and the Federation as a whole - and it echoes a similar dilemma Sisko found himself in during one of Deep Space Nine’s most acclaimed episodes.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 is set to reintroduce plenty of familiar faces from past Star Trek stories, and the series' showrunner hopes fans will receive it similarly to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Star Trek: Picard premiered on January 23, 2020, and featured the return of Patrick Stewart in his iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard. Created by Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, and Akiva Goldsman, the series follows Stewart's Picard in the next chapter of his life following the events of 1987's Star Trek: The Next Generation and 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis. The show features Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Isa Briones, and Jeri Ryan among its large ensemble cast.

2022 has been a banner year for Star Trek in both television and comics, and the stakes for the entire franchise have been redefined. This year saw the second season of Star Trek: Picard, the third of Star Trek: Lower Decks and the second half of Prodigy’s first season; it also saw the premiere of Strange New Worlds, which drew nearly universal acclaim from fans and critics. Just as the franchise returned to form on television, it made a roaring comeback in the comics as well.
This year, Idw published the landmark Star Trek #400. This book served as a touchstone for a reinvigoration of the franchise in comics. It seeded a number of exciting and forthcoming titles as well as being a glorious celebration of Star Trek history. The Idw Publishing comic, however, confirms that Seven of Nine's journey to Starfleet isn't as direct as the TV show makes it seem.

Although Nemesis is generally maligned by fans, Picard's clone Shinzon played a pivotal role in Picard's overall story. And since the Picard TV series had already done an exceptional job at delving into Picard's past and his relationships with various characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, fans saw a major opportunity when the comics continued the story by having Picard get entangled with the Remans, who raised his evil clone.

“I really believe that music is the heart of the narrative,” declares Emmy-winning composer Jeff Russo about the power of a great film or TV score. “It’s our responsibility to be the undercurrent to what the feeling of the story is; whether that feeling is love, hate, tension, anxiety. Any one of those feelings that the characters get to feel during the story should be underscored by us and brought out to a certain degree,” he says about the composer’s primary role. “Part of what I think a composer’s job is as well is to figure out where to not put music, not necessarily always where to put music, because a lot of times, the absence of music can also evoke certain feelings.”

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 6
Continuing a kind of mash-up between 12 Monkeys and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard has entered into its final batch of episodes. At this point, the show has a lot going on: from a rogue Soong (Brent Spiner) to a new hybrid Borg Queen (Alison Pill And Annie Wersching), and of course, the still unexplained mystery of Q’s vanishing powers. But, for the most part, in Episode 7, “Monsters,” the show slows down. Here, we’re in Jean-Luc’s mind for about half the episode, which could have triggered a clip-show episode a la Tng’s “Shades of Gray” but thankfully didn’t.
Instead, Picard brought a batch of deep cuts and easter eggs from the entire Star Trek franchise, and a few other sci-fi franchises along the way, too.

Star Trek’s relationship with tie-in media, specifically books and comics, is one of the largest and most expansive in the history of science fiction. Before the explosion of the Star Wars “expanded universe” of novels in 1991, Star Trek had been putting out at least four novels every year since 1980. This output hasn’t really changed much since the ‘80s, and though the official canonicity of Trek novels remains intentionally vague, there’s a long tradition of the writers of books and comics making every effort to make what tie-in media match with what you see on screen. But hardcore fans want to know, what counts and what doesn’t? Does what happens in the comic books, novels, and now, audio drama adventures, really count?
Co-writers of the new audio drama Star Trek: Picard – No Man’s Land — Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson — want fans to know one thing: They think it all counts.

Production has been suspended on Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard after more than four dozen cast and crew members tested positive for Covid, sources have confirmed to Deadline. Lead Patrick Stewart is not among them, we hear.
Filming halted Monday on the show, which employs more than 450 staffers, but is scheduled to resume tomorrow. The outbreak affected both crew members, as well as cast in Zone A.
Production had been underway on Season 2 of the series which follows Stewart’s titular character into the next chapter of his life.
Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner also star.
The series is just the latest forced to temporarily halt production because of a recent surge in Covid cases. It comes just days after production was suspended for NCIS, and pushed to February for NCIS: LA. NBC also has delayed filming for Chicago Fire because of Covid.

“Star Trek: Picard” Season 2 will see Jean-Luc squaring off against an old adversary: the Borg Queen.
Variety has confirmed that Annie Wersching will play the Borg Queen in the second season of the Paramount Plus series. Paramount Plus revealed a teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of “Star Trek: Picard,” which will premiere in 2022.
The teaser trailer was introduced by Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard for seven seasons on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” at the top of Paramount Plus’ slew of First Contact Day virtual panels. Additionally, it was revealed that production on the second season has already begun.
John de Lancie, who first portrayed the iconic character Q on “The Next Generation,” confirmed that he will appear in the second season alongside Stewart. Q shared comedic chemistry with Picard on the “Star Trek” series, often getting on the captain’s nerves. Picard initially deemed Q’s services unnecessary, but as the series progresses, Q morphed into a mentor role to Picard. In the episode “Deja Q,” he said Picard is “the closest thing in this universe that I have to a friend.

Picard initially deemed Q’s services unnecessary, but as the series progresses, Q morphed into a mentor role to Picard. In the episode “Deja Q,” he said Picard is “the closest thing in this universe that I have to a friend.

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers for Season 1, and spoilers for Stranger Things Season 2.
When Stranger Things Season 2 hit Netflix in 2017, I learned to hate the binge-model. Before I could catch my breath, I was already aware that it would take the entire season for Eleven to reunite with the boys, and I felt heartbroken. I didn’t mind the spoilers, I was just more frustrated that there wasn’t time to process all the twists and turns. From that point on (and maybe before) I rebelled, sometimes loudly, against the Netflix binge-model. For the most part, my cries for a more traditional release schedule were somehow heard. I mean, you can’t imagine either season of The Mandalorian dropping all at once. Similarly, Star Trek: Discovery certainty benefits from the weekly episode drop, giving fans plenty to talk about and think about until the next week.

This Star Trek: Picard article contains some spoilers for Season 1.
As Star Trek: Lower Decks finally debuts internationally on Amazon Prime, Star Trek: Picard Season 1 arrives on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time in the U.K. Although the Blu-ray snuck in a U.S. release back in October, it’s safe to say that Trekkies may have been pretty distracted by world-events (and Discovery Season 3!) at the time, and may not have delved-into all the extra Picard goodies! So, if you’re a U.S. reader and you missed the news about the Picard deleted scenes the first time around, or if you’re in the U.K. and you’re just now getting your hands on the Picard Season 1 Blu-ray, here’s what to know about the various deleted scenes.
First up, before getting into the weeds of the Picard Season 1 deleted scene ranking, it...

I am one of those Star Trek fans that when they announced Patrick Stewart was coming back to play Jean Luc Picard I wasn’t all that fussed, we currently had Discovery which I was totally in love with and honestly I just didn’t think I really needed to tread Tng waters again.
My interest in Picard did slowly start to creep up though as the time got closer to release on Amazon Prime and little nuggets of information were falling into our laps. The first thing that struck me was that this looked a million miles from what had gone before, a more mature and weathered Star Trek with no real sign...

This article contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Picard.
As the enemy starships are closing in, and all hope is lost, our heroes in a battered starship look up, and see that: yes, another ship has just warped in. They’re about to be rescued! Everything is going to be Ok!
In Star Trek, we’ve gotten used to this kind of last-minute starship rescue scene, with the most famous example probably being the Enterprise-e coming to the rescue of Worf and the Defiant in Star Trek: First Contact. But, in the Lower Decks Season 1 finale, we got the beginnings of what is becoming an eyebrow-raising Trekkie finale tradition.
So, in the case of the USS Cerritos being attacked by the Pakleds in the Lower Decks finale, the ship that comes to their recuse is the USS Titan, commanded by Captain Willaim T. Riker. That’s right.
