On Saturday (January 25), it was revealed that the 44-year-old actor filmed a surprise cameo appearance in the movie Atropia, which premiered at the festival.

According to reporting by Variety, Channing played “a bona fide American movie star (Tatum) will participate in a chemical weapon attack simulation.”

Here’s a synopsis of Atropia from Sundance: “When an aspiring actress in a military role-playing facility falls in love with a soldier cast as an insurgent, their unsimulated emotions threaten to derail the performance.”

Speaking to Variety, Alia confirmed that she is the one who helped get Channing to agree to the role.

Whitetail review – Deliverance-style backwoods thriller in hock to macho survivalism
Entertaining but emotionally stunted film about a family hunting trip starts out with promising menace but gets bogged down in a thicket of dialogue

“Why do we kill?” “It’s what we do.” That’s the flinty Old Testament register on offer in this backwoods thriller, in which brusque Texan dad Tom (Tom Zembrod) takes his autistic son Donnie (Dash Melrose) out on a hunting trip to get over his mother’s fatal overdose. Also along for the ride is Donnie’s simpering uncle Frank (Paul T Taylor), who is unconvinced by his brother-in-law’s man-up modus operandi. They all have to deal with Tom’s blowhard routine – lecturing Donnie about the perils of bush snakes and refusing to let anyone wear hi-vis – until they stumble on a man bleeding from a stomach wound with a backpack full of banknotes.

"What'd he do?" "Took something from me..." Cinedigm has debuted a trailer for an indie hitman thriller called Red Stone, arriving on VOD in December. With one bullet, Motley's life spirals out of control as he's forced to go on the run from a ruthless southern crime lord named Jed Haywood. Tracking him is Boon, Haywood's best henchman and close friend. Boon's brother recently passed away in a horrific car accident and today is the funeral. He has 10 hours to bring Motley in and get to the cemetery. Over the course of one day, both Motley and Boon go on a spiritual journey as fate brings them together for a climatic showdown. Cinedigm Acquires North American Rights To Western Thriller ‘Red Stone’ Starring Neal McDonough, Michael Cudlitz & Dash Melrose

Exclusive: Cinedigm has acquired North American rights to Derek Presley’s action thriller Red Stone, starring Neal McDonough (Yellowstone), Dash Melrose (Ida Red) and Michael Cudlitz (Clarice), with plans to release it in select theaters, on demand and digital this winter.

The film centers on a dangerous hitman (McDonough) tasked with hunting down a teenager (Melrose) who witnessed his older brother’s murder at the hands of a ruthless Southern crime lord (Cudlitz). Still reeling from his own brother’s sudden death and with only a few hours before the funeral, the hired gun must track down the boy before rival henchmen and the F.B.I. get to him. As the hours tick down, the violent man begins to question his deadly ways and must choose which side he belongs to, in a final climactic showdown.

Red Stone was produced by Robert Johnson, Jason Starne and Austin Williams, with Dwayne Williams and Alex Blackmon exec producing.

Exclusive: Neal McDonough has signed on to star in, produce and co-write Boon, the sequel to the actor’s movie Red Stone.

In Red Stone, McDonough plays Boon, a henchman for Southern crime lord Jed Haywood (Michael Cudlitz). Boon is assigned to track Motley (Dash Melrose), who is on the run from Jed. However, Boon has just lost his brother, and only has 10 hours to bring Motley in and get to the cemetery. Over the course of one day, both Motley and Boon go on a spiritual journey as their fate brings them together for a climatic showdown.

Red Stone director Derek Presley is returning to helm Boon and will co-write with McDonough. Red Stone producer Jason Starne is also returning for Boon.

Neal McDonough, who has recently been seen on shows like Yellowstone, Altered Carbon and the Robert Zemeckis series Project Blue Book, has signed on to star in Red Stone, an indie thriller written and directed by Derek Presley. McDonough, who also serves as an executive producer on the film, will star alongside Dash Melrose (Little Fires Everywhere), Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Dominic Scott Kay (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Jason Douglas (The Walking Dead), Allie DeBerry (A.N.T. Farm), and Mike Dopud (The Predator).

Filming is currently underway in Texas. The story follows Motley (Melrose), whose life spirals out of control as he’s forced to go on the run from southern crime lord, Jed Haywood (Cudlitz). Boon, Haywood’s best henchman and close friend, is tracking Motley and over the course of one day, both Motley and Boon go on a spiritual journey as their fate brings them together for a showdown.
