"I wasn't always this sure, of myself". It's a due process, and the dues are now officially, owed. Being here for me, was a long stretch, down a tedious road, that I began to grow tired of. The passion for Creating, Being and Dreaming. But like true love, it never goes away". Born in Lenox Hill hospital in upper Eastside of Manhattan, New York. A very small baby indeed, a palm baby. I was tiny- but grew so largely for life. The last born to, two brothers. A mother and a father who was a DJ. Her father did gigs for acts such as Flavor Flav, and more. Time was short in New York, as the family moved to Texas. Shortly after moving to Texas, Kay's father was gunned down, right around the corner; from where they resided. Kay was only three at the time, her father died. Life became dim, as a young child. "I was depressed, and unsure of many things in my life, while growing up". I guess, you could say that things like drawing fashion, writing and make-up were her go to outlets for her depression. "I did enjoy, my mother dancing to her favorite tunes". "But this, was well after years of grieving for my father". My mother found love and passion for education. Attending college and getting not one, not two, but three degrees in criminology. "I've always admired her for, that" Kay, on the other hand, did not have a passion for education. Leading her to drop out of high school at the age of 16. The day of her 16th birthday, She ended up being employed at the downtown mall in San Antonio Texas. She had two jobs which was equivalent to one full time job. "At the time, I was proud of myself. Although, I was still searching to find myself. That is when, I was introduced to modeling. I ended up working for SAPORTRAITS. And I never felt so good in my life. Being able to express, create and have a vision is what drove me. It drove me to find a version of myself, that I enjoy, and I hope others, enjoy as well." She was in counseling during her childhood, teenage years and adult hood. "Depression isn't something that just goes away. Nothing can fill the void of utter and complete emptiness. But I finally found something, or shall I say someone, who did." At age 19 she met a Portuguese man, later at 21- almost 22, she had a daughter, with him. Her daughter brightened the light that was dim. The light, she mentioned, earlier. "I was scared. I didn't know how to be a mother. I wanted to be one. But, would she like me? Will she want me? Will she grow up and abandon me? Raising her child, Kay realized that- that was just the new mommy jitters. As, she called it. Losing her minimum wage job, Kay decided that something needed to change. Something that could not be taken away. Something that was built from the ground up, with her bare hands. "When you own something, no one can take it away from you!" That is when her janitorial business was born. Tip-Top Cleaning, was what opened the doors to entrepreneurship as well as financial freedom. By this time, at the age of 22, Kay, her daughter and her daughter's father moved to a suburban town called Portland, Texas. Just over the bridge from Corpus Christi, Texas. Business was booming, and was successful for five years. But then Hurricane Harvey came. Most of the surrounding area was destroyed, and business plummeted. "I decided to take my family, West. Where, the sun shines, and the land is dry". Moving to Nevada, she enjoyed a hiatus for a while. Returning to work, she found a job at a casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Modeling was reintroduced to Kay. She worked with photographers such as Chezaray Photography, Hush Expose, Rae Bae Photography and more. Kay then modeled for a clothing brand and stylist company; Lovely selections. She was later introduced to acting, taking classes, and writing scripts. Kay is a screenwriter, published author on amazon. Her first published book was a children's book called: The Scarecrow and the Jack-O-Lantern. A book about an unorthodox relationship between a scarecrow and a Jack-o-lantern. One was afraid to go outside on the night of Halloween. But having a friend, was truly handy and encouraged them to go out and get treats. Hoping they don't fall for all the tricks, that the ghouls and goblins have in store. "I want people to know that it is okay to dream. Martin Luther King had one, and I proudly honor his dream by being in a interracial relationship. Because love, comes in all colors shapes and sizes." I am proud of my daughter, who is an A honor roll student and also student of the month. Kay is also a proud member of the LGBT community. "I would say, I am the B in the community". I just want to create, and work with all walks of life. Show that women like me, a woman of color and a mother can, too dream. We all have a story to tell. It's an honor to share my mine,
