Jake Bergen was born and raised near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. When he was young, his father passed on his old VHS camcorder to him and his brothers, and he says that the feeling he got when behind the camera was indescribable. The brothers spent hours upon hours making goofy shorts and music videos for their own enjoyment, usually with Jake directing.
Despite his interest in film at an early age, the fact that he was raised in a cult that considered film and television to be evil severely hampered his ability to pursue a career in film. For that reason, he considers himself a late bloomer as a filmmaker.
Escaping the cult in 2011, he knew he had to try and pursue the passion for filmmaking that had never left him. By 2012 Jake had purchased film production gear and was doing freelance camera and editing work. As of 2018 he has produced hundreds of media pieces. His work has won awards, been televised in the US and Canada, and played at film festivals in numerous countries.
He lives with his wife and two daughters near Vancouver, BC.
