Rick and Mortyco-creator Dan Harmon has offered an update on the series ahead of the series' Season 8 finale. He also shared some of his favorite moments from the show.
"I'm really bad at keeping track these days because we're so on schedule that we're ahead of schedule," Harmon told The Hollywood Reporter when the question came up during San Diego Comic-Con 2025. "I was told last night that at Comic-Con, we will be doing a table read of the two Beths episode [Season 8, Episode 6, "The Curicksous Case of Bethjamin Button"]. My response was very sincerely, 'Maybe I should punch that script up.' And [executive producer] Steve Levy said, 'It already aired on television.' I've become my own Chevy Chase now."
Harmon also hinted at the future of Rick and Morty. Recording of voice work for Season 9 is already underway with writing for some episodes of Season 10 complete. "Definitely very new, very alien," he said about being ahead of schedule.

“Rick and Morty”
Ahead of the Season 8 finale of “Rick and Morty” on Sunday, the cast shared their favorite serious moments from the series.
Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden said the “fear hole” from the Season 7 finale, with Sarah Chalke chiming in about the Season 8 finale as her standout. As the new voices of “Rick and Morty,” Cardoni and Belden opened up about revisiting these characters for a second time in the current season.
“We got to breathe a little bit in between episodes because Season 7 had to be done in about two months,” Cardoni said. “In Season 8, we took most of the year to explore these characters a little more and bring more of ourselves to the role. We’ve just been given these great stories to play with.

Released in 2024, Rick and Morty: The Anime series made one surprising choice of replacing the original voice cast. Neither Ian Cardoni nor Harry Belden returned as Rick and Morty. Instead, the anime featured Joe Daniels as Rick and Gabriel Regojo as Morty in its English dub.
For many longtime Rick and Morty fans, it made the anime feel like an entirely different entity. This break in continuity was more than jarring. Executive Producer Joseph Chou explained the reasoning behind this decision in a 2024 interview with Bleeding Cool. He said,
It might have been discussed, but the thing is, [the anime] was standing on its own. We were also of the mindset of, ‘Look, let’s do something that stands alone and see if we can do it.’ Also, with the original show and creators, we made sure they were good with it and happy to give us their blessings and do our own thing.

"BoJack Horseman," created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, may have talking animals and copious puns, but it's also a dark reflection of addiction and the pursuit of fame. The best "BoJack Horseman" episodes know how to masterfully maneuver between comedy and drama, and the show refuses to give its audience any easy answers. BoJack (Will Arnett) is not a good individual, as his self-destructive tendencies often cause him to push any friends he has away. This often gets juxtaposed with whatever silly adventure his roommate Todd (Aaron Paul) gets into, like joining an improv-based cult.
Fans likely tuned into "BoJack Horseman" expecting some silly cartoons revolving around a satirical Hollywood, but it was so much more than that, becoming one of the most profound shows of the 21st century. The show got six seasons to wrap up its story, but you may still feel a horse-shaped void in your heart. Fortunately, there...

If fans of Rick and Morty were to debate who the most morally questionable character is, chances are that Rick C-137 and Evil Morty would have a tie. Both characters have kill counts as high as populations, taking lives without a second thought. They have hurt, taken, and displaced without an ounce of regret and looked cool while doing it. With the moral questions that these characters raise through their actions, the complexities of their personalities seem to be lost in the mix.
One question that has always fascinated me about the moral debate within this show is which of them is more morally justified. Both have tragic backstories and several reasons why they kill without guilt. However, with the number of lives they have taken, do their origins really justify their means? On this note, let’s analyze their crimes and motivations to see who is the worst one.

Although there has certainly been some behind-the-scenes turmoil, Rick and Morty was renewed through season 12 before the eighth season even began to air. Because of this, fans know that the creators have plenty more in store.
In our review of the eighth season, we called it a “return to form” and said it was “a consistently enjoyable batch of episodes so far.” The first five episodes that we have seen have offered plenty of the classic Rick and Morty adventures that made fans love the franchise in the first place.
We at FandomWire got to speak with Rick and Morty voice actors Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden about their roles, their journey since joining the franchise in season seven, some of their favorite moments from the first half of season eight, and what fans have to look forward to in the rest of the season and beyond. The lead voice actors explain how Rick and Morty's new variants differ from the many versions seen before. Since the departure of series co-creator and main voice actor Justin Roiland, Rick has been played by Ian Cardoni, and Morty by Harry Belden. Rick and Morty season 8 continues to follow the titular characters through their various adventures, but season 8, episode 3, "The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly" took the show in a different direction by following two variants, Homesteader Rick and Arcade Morty.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns to discuss the midseason of the series, Cardoni and Belden detail how Homesteader Rick and Arcade Morty are different from the main versions. With the episode title being a riff on The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly, Cardoni partially based his performance on Clint Eastwood. Rick and Morty season 8 is still midway through its release schedule, but its stars are already wrapping up season 9. The 10-episode season premiered on May 25 and is poised to run through July 27. After Rick and Morty's shaky season 7, season 8 has been a return to form, earning a 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 87% Popcornmeter score. The season has not yet concluded, so those scores are still subject to change, but it has been a positive development for the show, which remains a breakout hit for Adult Swim.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns about hitting the midseason mark for season 8, voice actors Harry Belden (Morty) and Ian Cardoni (Rick) teased exciting elements about the upcoming episodes. It’s easy to one-up former Rick and Morty star Justin Roiland — avoiding grooming and sexual assault allegations is an excellent place to start — but according to his small-screen replacements, one aspect of his performance as both Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith has proven tough to beat.
Harry Belden and Ian Cardoni, who took over the series’ titular roles following Roiland’s firing in January 2023, recently opened up about the challenges of headlining the Adult Swim staple, revealing that they’ve largely avoided the disgraced star’s penchant for improv due, in part, to their writers’ “amazing” scripts.
“By the time the scripts get in front of us, they’ve gone through so many iterations,” Cardoni explained during a recent sitdown with CinenmaBlend, praising the Rick and Morty team’s ability to create “improvisational-sounding moments.”

Only three episodes in and “Rick and Morty” has already pulled out the big guns. After last week’s episode, which featured a rare adventure with Space Beth (Sarah Chalke), “The Rick, the Mort and the Ugly” zoomed in on one of the oddest and most beloved parts of this multiverse, the Citadel of Ricks.
“There was probably [writers] room excitement to tag back in and see what’s left of the Citadel. People might think that it’s utterly destroyed. We see that there are survivors from it,” Scott Marder, the showrunner and executive producer of “Rick and Morty,” told TheWrap.

Since arriving in 2013, "Rick and Morty" has been as much of an influence in popular culture as the equally memorable elements they often borrow from. Some of the show's best episodes have riffed on "Lawnmower Man" and "The Purge" while going hand in hand with original creations like Mr. Poopybutthole and Pickle Rick. But given the breadth of space and time that the alcoholic scientist, Rick, and his grandson, Morty have at their disposal, is there a limit to the creative freedom the show can take? According to the show's co-creator, Dan Harmon, not really.
GamesRadar+ spoke to Harmon alongside the show's executive producer and showrunner, Scott Marder, who were asked about Rick and Morty's purpose in a show that has thus far reached eight seasons. Is there an endgame for this unhinged pair, given that there are so many other Ricks and Mortys out there in the various realities?...

Voice actors are what make Rick and Morty work as well as it does. Granted that animators set the stage, execute the storylines, and add the expressions. However, it is the way that the VAs voice the characters that has become timeless for the series. From Jerry’s whining to Beth’s irritated voice and even Summer’s monotonous personality, all reflect well because of the way their actors shape them.
Since Justin Roiland was the voice actor for both Morty and Rick, one can imagine that a lot could have gone wrong after he was fired. With how much time we spent with his portrayal, it is not surprising that fans are critical of Harry Belden and Ian Cardoni’s voice acting as his replacements, even though it is as close as the show can get.
However, the blame may not be entirely theirs to bear. The two recently...

The recently concluded second season of HBO's The Last of Us drew only a fraction of the viewership that the show's debut season attracted. Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon explains how the series avoids falling into bad habits with its South Parkrule.
Per Bleeding Cool, Harmon broke down the ways in which Rick and Morty is influenced by South Park, or rather by the concerted effort that the former's creative team makes to avoid trying to race the latter when it comes to touching upon current events. "We have a South Park rule," Harmon said, "Which is, 'Let's not play a South Park game because South Park can do it faster and better than us.' So it's one thing for the thing you're referring to is like, 'Oh, they're in Squid Games outfits,' so it's a direct reference."
Harmon went on to explain the creative team's conscious efforts to make sure any pop culture references made inRick and Morty have a timeless quality to them that will translate successfully as the years roll on.

Rick and Morty recently returned for its eighth season, and as it stands, the new season currently has the record for the highest-rated of them all. It's also notably seeing a big bump compared to last season's score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently, Rick and Morty Season 8 is holding a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This number may fall as more episodes and reviews are added during the season, but it's nevertheless a tremendous start for Season 8. It's up significantly from Season 7's score of 77%, which is the lowest of the series. Previous seasons had consistently performed strongly with critics. Season 1 has a near-perfect score of 97%, followed by Season 2 at 91%; Season 3 at 96%; Season 4 at 96%; Season 5 at 86%; and Season 6 at 91%.
"Rick and Morty Season 8 continues what the series does best, letting the main characters' exciting dynamic shine with the backdrop of wild adventures," Screen Rant reviewer Felipe Rangel said of the new season.

Rick and Morty is finally back from a hiatus of more than a year. As the Adult Swim show is all set to take us back to the crazy sci-fi world of Rick Sanchez, let us take a look at the man behind the character. While the show’s co-creator, Justin Roiland, initially voiced the characters, many serious allegations against him led Ian Cardoni to take over the role.
Justin Roiland was one of the primary reasons behind Rick and Morty‘s success. His voice made the titular characters iconic and provided each with a distinct personality. While it is almost impossible for anyone to match Roiland, Ian Cardoni did quite an incredible job.

Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty” is back for Season 8, and the nearly year-and-a-half break has resulted in a burst of creative energy for a show that, at its best, can only be loosely described as a sci-fi sitcom. Creators Scott Marder and Dan Harmon have returned to the core Smith family dynamics (partly inspired by “Succession”), now severely impacted by Rick (Ian Cardoni) and Morty’s (Harry Belden) rippled universe mayhem. Season 8 offers up some provocative existential problems, along with eye-popping world-building, and even more imaginative body horror. At the same time, there are a few callbacks to feed the fanbase.
Here are some early highlights: In Episode 1 (“Summer of All Fears”), Morty and older sister Summer (Spencer Grammer) return from being prisoners inside a simulated “Matrix” as punishment for not returning Rick’s phone charger. Summer became a ruthless tech firm leader while Morty suffered Ptsd from going to war.

Ahead of the Rick and Morty season premiere, series creator Dan Harmon is reflecting on what lies ahead for the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim headliner. He further mused upon the topic of what serves as the anchor of the show.

Despite the episodic nature of "Rick & Morty," the show's status quo has changed slightly over the years. The characters are nicer to Jerry (Chris Parnell), Morty (now voiced by Harry Belden) has gotten more confident, and Rick (now voiced by Ian Cardoni) is ever-so-slightly less of a drunken jerk. Recall that in his very first scene of the show, Rick drunkenly barges into Morty's bedroom, tripping around and spilling his beer all over the place. It's a lot harder to imagine season 7 Rick doing the same.
But for fans who miss the griminess of season 1, Cardoni has some promising news. "I will say in season 8, you're going to hear more burping, which means I've just had a lot more carbonated beverages in the booth to help me along with that," he told /Film's own Ethan Anderson in an interview. He continued, explaining:

Through thick and thin, Rick and Morty remains Adult Swim’s crown jewel of adult animation. For what it was, attempting to scramble in the face of controversy involving one of its creators, season 7 of Rick and Morty was solid enough. Now that we’re firmly on the other side of that drama, the show has regained its footing, focusing on a return to form and being consistently good, albeit not spectacular.
Rick and Morty Season 8 Review
In season 8, scientist Rick Sanchez and his sidekick/grandson Morty Smith are back, setting off on a series of adventures across the galaxy. This batch of episodes brings the pair face-to-face with a number of new allies and foes, including new variants of Rick and Morty and alien races that we’d never met before.
This season basically abandons the idea of an overall storyline, with more of an emphasis on self-contained adventures.

Rick and Mortystar Chris Parnell opens up about Justin Roiland's exit from the series.
Per Bleeding Cool, Parnell talked about the series on The Patrick LabyorSheaux podcast. He discussed the cast and production team meeting that took place while the series' future was still uncertain back in 2023 during a period of intense scrutiny due to the allegations and controversy surrounding co-creator Justin Roiland. "I can't remember exactly how I found out the details. I know Scott Marder, who is the showrunner and who is the person that directs me in the voiceover sessions, [and] he sort of discussed with me some of what was going on in one of our sessions," Parnell recalled.
"And then, there also was a big cast and production Zoom meeting – at least one, maybe more than one – where everybody got on to talk about it. It was heavy, you know? A lot of people were...

Dan Harmon's and Justin Roiland's animated sci-fi series "Rick and Morty" is plenty ribald. Morty is a teenage boy with a healthy libido, often finding himself in the company of horny aliens or automated sex bots. Rick, meanwhile, is an unrepentant alcoholic who cusses and kills with impunity. The series has, throughout its seven seasons, firmly established a weirdly Nietzschean theme, exploring the workability of a character (Rick) who believes himself to be naturally superior to those around him ... and who has the intelligence to occasionally back up his claims. Morty, meanwhile, has seen so much death and violence and alternate universes that he has had to shrink his worldview from optimism to a weary acceptance. "Nobody exists on purpose," he says, "nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV." The crass, often "low" show can just as often skew profound.

Only a few days remain until Season 8 of Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim. As expected, it's teasing new adventures with this grandpa/grandson duo and the rest of the Smith family, who are again getting a piece of the action. However, Season 8 has big plans, as not only are the characters getting new looks, but a brand-new team-up is about to happen.
The Season 8 trailer showcased new clips of the Smith family, especially an adventure featuring Space Beth (Sarah Chalke) and Rick (Ian Cardoni) together. Additionally, it showcased Summer's (Spencer Grammer) new look, as she's giving off Tris (Shailene Woodley) from Divergent vibes in the latest preview. And it's not a Rick and Morty adventure without a story about various Rick and Morty (Harry Belden) variants going rogue.
Season 8 of Rick and Morty will feature 10 new episodes, one of which is Easter-centric, with the holiday treated like a cult-like religion.

The eighth season of Rick and Morty is coming next month, and Adult Swim just released a new trailer! Watch it above.
This will be the second season where Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden will voice Rick and Morty respectively, after previous voice actor Justin Roiland left the show following allegations of domestic violence. Personally, I didn't hear much of a difference in season 7 and am looking forward to seeing how these two can add more of themselves to the show while still staying within the lines established by the first six seasons.
As for what kinds of crazy sci-fi adventures Rick and Morty will go on this time, expect the unexpected: space Catholics, Rick's Death Race car, Colonel Sanders Rick, Jerry eating a cabbage way faster than anyone should be able to eat a cabbage, Summer with short hair, mob justice, and more. Adult Swim has already released the titles for all 10 upcoming episodes.

Rick and Morty Season Eight will premiere on May 25th, which gives us ample time to wildly speculate on the future of high-concept sci-fi rigamarole.
It’s been 16 months since the most recent episode of Rick and Morty aired, and although the wait has been a long one, at least this off-season was decidedly less eventful than the last one when the show’s most toxic fans melted down over the removal of a certain disgraced co-creator. Since we last saw Rick and Morty in the main series, we suffered through Rick and Morty: The Anime, Dan Harmon released absolutely zero promising updates on The Community Movie and both Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden enjoyed their quiet break between recording sessions with minimal hate mail.
Then, this morning, Adult Swim released the newest official trailer for Rick and Morty Season Eight, a teaser that’s filled with hints and reveals for upcoming episode plot lines.

Rick and Morty has always thrived on its unpredictability, twisting plotlines, and leaving us all guessing. But here’s a shocker: one mystery is staying unsolved. According to the creators, there’s something they’re deliberately leaving out of the equation.
So, while we’ll keep digging for answers, the creators have confirmed that one piece of the puzzle is just going to stay tucked away. It’s a bold move in a show that loves to mess with its audience, but it’s also what keeps the fanbase hooked.

Rick and Morty made chaos an art form. Since its 2013 debut, the sci-fi comedy smashed multiverses with dark humor, wild action, and a weirdly emotional core. But one thing it never did was spill Rick’s full backstory.

Dan Harmon may have his hands full with the upcoming Community movie and subsequent seasons of Rick and Morty, but at least he does not have to deal with replacing his main voice actor and re-recording a whole season’s worth of lines. Harmon had the painful task of replacing Justin Roiland after he was fired from the show due to several accusations.
Roiland voiced both the titular characters in the animated sci-fi series and was the co-creator of the show. However, he was soon replaced by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden for season 7, and frankly, they killed it. The reception was not too bad, and while some loyalists prefer Roiland’s work, Harmon had a hilarious response to the quality of the show.

Adult Swim’s latest promo for the upcoming Rick and Morty Season Eight just teased that the series is finally turning “Interdimensional Cable” into a trilogy, but we really want the show to give us eight specials, one for each Jan-Michael Vincent.
Back in the first season of Rick and Morty, the writing staff’s loose, explorative approach to building out the multiversal world of the series led to the creation of an episode that would come to define the show’s tone and sense of humor for the next decade with “Rixty Minutes.” This soon-to-be fan-favorite episode introduced Rick’s most entertaining invention: the Interdimensional Cable Box, which allows the Sanchez-Smith family to watch every show from every channel of television in any universe, allowing them and us to watch brief snippets of improvisational chaos with endless comedic possibilities.

The upcoming eighth season of Rick and Morty will premiere on Sunday, May 25 on Adult Swim. So says a short new teaser that you can watch above.
Rick and Morty deal with Space Christians in what looks like some kind of Easter special. This marks the second season where Ian Cardoni will voice super-scientist Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden his hapless grandson Morty Smith. The two of them are subbing in for Justin Roiland, who left the show following allegations of domestic violence.
Cardoni and Belden did a good job with the seventh season of the show, although you could tell that they were trying to do their best Justin Roiland impressions. And they should; they're voicing characters he played. But now that they've settled into the roles a bit, I wonder if they can bring a bit more of their own spin to the proceedings.

For Rick and Morty fans, this April Fool's Day is leaving them feeling anything but foolish. Adult Swim commemorated the day of pranks with a special midnight live stream recreating some of the adult animated series's greatest moments, like Pickle Rick and the iconic intro, through a 22-minute comedic anthology stage production. However, that was only the beginning of the surprise, as the event ended with an official release date and first look at Season 8, teasing some of the zany new adventures the titular duo will go on next.
