‘The Serpent’ Director Hans Herbots On ‘This Is Not A Murder Mystery’, A Whodunnit Series Featuring René Magritte & Salvador Dalí
Image
Exclusive: Art becomes fiction as René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and their peers give the whodunnit genre a surreal makeover in This is Not A Murder Mystery. Deadline can share an exclusive new image from the series, which is produced by Belgium-based indie Panenka.

Hans Herbots, whose directing credits include The Serpent and Paris Has Fallen helmed all six eps. “We wanted to elevate the genre and give it a twist,” he tells Deadline. “This story, this universe, offered a lot of a lot of opportunity to do that.”

“This is not a pipe” is the wording below Magritte’s famous 1929 picture ‘The Treachery of Images’ and This is Not A Murder Mystery features the iconic Belgian artist and several of his surrealist peers.

In fact, the series absolutely is a murder mystery – as Series Mania attendees will see, with the drama in the Coming Next From Belgium section. It was commissioned by Vrt,...

Kaos' Furies Explained: Who They Are In Greek Mythology
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Kaos.

The Furies have a small but significant role in Netflix's Kaos, raising questions about their Greek mythology origin story and how it compares to their appearance. The dark comedy follows three humans Ariadne (Ari), Eurydice (Riddy), and Caeneus who have the power to take down Zeus, the god of thunder and leader of the Greek gods. In addition to these four characters, the Netflix show weaves in a number of gods, goddesses, and figures from Greek mythology, getting a shocking amount right in Kaos.

While some gods like Hera and Dionysus play a central role in the story, others have a much less prominent role. Medusa is only featured in a handful of scenes, but she helps run the Underworld. Daedalus is a captive of King Minos, helping him run his estate. Even Achilles gets a nod through an Easter egg at the grocery store.

War of the Worlds Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Everyone You Know, Someday, Will Die
Image
This War of the Worlds review contains spoilers.

Dieu merci! My prayers were answered. After two action-heavy, plot-stuffed episodes that replaced atmosphere with incident, this week War of the Worlds got back to what really matters: existential discussions over red wine and 20-year-old songs about the fragility of mortal life. A bomb went off too, for those who prefer their apocalypse more fast and furious. Something for everybody.

While the London crew were being blasted apart in every sense, Catherine, Sophia and Nathan were grieving, healing and connecting in a French farmhouse. After the attack on the Observatory, they’d holed up in the university library to search for references to Professor Bill Ward without the help of Google or the Ctrl+F function. Eventually, his author blurb was spotted on the back of a book. Now, they’re all on his trail and en route to London, having picked...
