Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's Major Missing Original Character Complaints Ignore A Harsh Reality Of The Reboot
Image
Despite featuring much of the original cast, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's revival is leaving out a crucial part of the ensemble. The reboot of Wizards of Waverly Place features a cast of new and original characters puts the focus on Justin in his new life as a mortal. The new series follows Justin, his mortal wife, and two non-magical kids. When his sister, Alex (Selena Gomez), arrives with a young wizard named Billie by her side and asks Justin to train her, Justin accepts and uses his powers to begin Billie's magical training, causing chaos in his family life.

While Wizards Beyond Waverly Place reintroduces a lot of the same silly antics that made the original Disney Channel show so entertaining and features guest appearances by the original members of the Russo family, this beloved Wizards of Waverly Place character does not make an appearance in season 1. 8 Biggest Characters Missing From Wizards Beyond Waverly Place So Far
Image
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the highly-anticipated Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, hasn't brought back these 8 characters from the original show, and it's unclear whether some of them will come back at all. Based on Alex and Justin Russo's ages, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set approximately 15 years after the original show, and plenty has happened since Wizards of Waverly Place. Most notably, Justin (David Henrie) married a mortal woman named Giada and had two sons, Milo and Roman, after he was fired as headmaster of WizTech and walked away from his magic powers.

Justin's family is the focus of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a major change from Wizards of Waverly Place, which focused primarily on Alex. Selena Gomez's Alex Russo is still part of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's cast of characters, although she is guest starring rather than having a leading role. Jerry Russo, another member of the Russo family tree,...

How the Wizards of Waverly Place Reboot Connects to the Original
Image
The talented and charismatic Selena Gomez is undeniably one of Hollywood's most sensational superstars, with the actress, singer, and producer extraordinaire having dominated both the world of television and film as well as the music scene throughout her illustrious career. While Gomez is now perhaps best known for her Golden Globe-nominated role as Mabel Mora in the mystery dramedy Only Murders in the Building as well as her chart-topping singles and albums, she got her start as a lovable teenage wizard on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place.

The hit fantasy sitcom ran for four exciting seasons and helped skyrocket Gomez to widespread prominence, with the series becoming one of Disney's most popular and highly-viewed hits over the course of its 106 episodes. Though the show bid farewell in 2012, longtime fans were thrilled when news broke that a long-awaited spin-off was in the works, with Wizards Beyond Waverly Place making its triumphant...

Selena Gomezs Alex Russo Broke New Ground for the Disney Channel
Image
With the first nine episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place now streaming, the pilot episode, "Everything Is Not What It Seems," saw the iconic Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) return. The Wizards of Waverly Place reboot follows the now 34-year-old Justin Russo (David Henrie), and his sons Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko), with Gomez only appearing in a guest role. Though she may not be taking center stage in the new sequel series, it's worth remembering how groundbreaking Alex's character was when Wizards of Waverly Place first aired from 2007 to 2012. Not only was Alex the first Latina lead in a Disney Channel sitcom, but compared to the other female-led shows that were popular during that era, the snarky, self-assured protagonist of Wizards of Waverly Place was also Disney Channel's first anti-heroine.

The show managed to offer a humorous look at the growing pains of childhood with a fantasy element that manages to make its story continue to resonate with a new audience in large part thanks to the script.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Creates A Hilarious Selena Gomez Paradox
Image
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place brings back fan-favorite characters alongside new ones, delivering hilarious sequences of over-the-top humor, as well as a meta-joke about one of the franchise's biggest stars that creates a paradox. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place expands the Russo family tree from Wizards of Waverly Place with the introduction of Justin Russo's (David Henrie) wife and children, as well as the pre-teen wizard Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) he takes in at the request of his sister Alex (Selena Gomez). With some fantastic new spins on the classic series, the revival makes for a great return to this world.

The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place cast has some clever jokes that embrace the tone of the story while bringing in newer elements to appeal to a modern audience. It has been more than 10 years since Wizards of Waverly Place ended, but the new showrunners understand that love for the original...

I'm Convinced The Villain In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's Cliffhanger Is This Dark Og Character
Image
Warning! This post contains spoilers for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

The brand-new Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off show Wizards Beyond Waverly Place shockingly ended with the appearance of a mysterious evil hooded figure, and I think I've guessed exactly who is hiding underneath that hood. Based on Justin and Alex Russo's ages, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set approximately 15 years after the finale of Wizards of Waverly Place. Plenty has happened since Wizards of Waverly Place, including Justin being fired from WizTech, giving up his powers, and beginning a family of his own with his mortal wife, Giada, and two sons, Milo and Roman.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's cast of characters features not only Justin Russo and his family but also Billie, a young wizard whom Alex wants Justin to train. However, just as the theme songs for Wizards of Waverly Place and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place suggest,...

Why Does Justin Russo Still Have His Powers In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place (Despite Not Being The Family Wizard)?
Image
The highly-anticipated Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has begun streaming on Disney+, and the show's first 9 episodes raise many questions, including how protagonist Justin Russo still has his wizard powers. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is a brand-new era for the Russo family, and there have been many changes since Wizards of Waverly Place. Some of the biggest updates include Justin's marriage to a mortal woman named Giada and the birth of his two sons, Roman (the older) and Milo (the younger).

Currently, Justin's sons don't have magic powers, but Justin does. The latter is particularly surprising based on the family wizard rule from Wizards of Waverly Place. Each wizard family participates in the Wizard Competition, which determines the sibling who will remain a wizard. In Wizards of Waverly Place, Alex won, meaning Alex should be the sole wizard among the Russo siblings. However, an exception...

Wizards Of Waverly Place's Russo Family Tree Explained
Image
Wizards of Waverly Place puts the spotlight on the Russo family, a complex group of Wizards and mortals who have a unique relationship with magic compared to most other wizards and witches. The show first began airing on the Disney Channel in 2007, and it saw the main character, Alex Russo, played by Selen Gomez grow from a young and inexperienced witch into a powerful and knowledgeable hero who was able to win the right to keep her powers.

Within the world of magic set up in the show, children and teenagers are able to wield magic when they are young, but once they reach maturity, the family magic needs to be granted to just one child in order to make them a full witch or wizard. But, when it comes to the Russo's their magic heritage gets complicated as Jerry initially had the family powers, but later passed them to his brother,...

Why Don't Justin's Kids Have Powers In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?
Image
Justin Russo's two sons, Roman and Milo, haven't revealed any magical abilities yet in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place despite being part of the Russo family tree, but there are a number of possible reasons for this. Plenty has happened since Wizards of Waverly Place ended, including Justin's marriage to a mortal woman named Giada and the birth of his two sons. Sadly, Justin also walked away from the life of a wizard following WizTech firing him over a mysterious unicorn incident.

Wizards of Waverly Place proved that being a wizard is highly genetic, though, so it's somewhat surprising that Roman and Milo hadn't exhibited any magic powers prior to Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, even with Justin no longer practicing magic. Of course, only the first 9 episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 1 have been released, and although Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 2 hasn't been confirmed yet, it could be coming.

Every Major Original Wizards Of Waverly Place Character's Replacement In Disney+'s Sequel Show Explained
Image
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place reboots a beloved Disney show, but the new cast has a lot in common with their predecessors from Wizards of Waverly Place. It's been more than a decade since Wizards of Waverly Place ended in 2012, and the subsequent one-off special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, but now, the show is finally back. However, considering the time between the shows, the cast has grown up, and as a result, it wasn't possible to bring everyone back again.

Despite this, the new series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, feels eerily similar to the original show, and for good reason. Throughout the series, several new characters are introduced alongside David Henrie, who returned to reprise his role as Justin Russo throughout Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. And while the characters may be new, it seems the show has repeated the formula for the earlier success, simply casting new characters in the roles of the originals.
