The Rookie boss reveals why a 9-1-1 crossover event would be 'hard'
Image
We all love a good crossover. It's why we've been pushing for another One Chicago crossover, and are over the moon that it's finally happening again in 2025. It's become the go-to move for procedural TV over the last few decades, and it continues to drum up excitement.

Alexi Hawley, the showrunner for The Rookie, recently spoke about the possibility of a crossover between his police drama and the first responder series 9-1-1. It makes sense on paper. While they do not share a creator, the shows are both ABC properties that revolve around police work.

Alexi Hawley doesn't want to combine universes 2024 Disney Upfront | Dia Dipasupil/GettyImages

The only problem is, Hawley is skeptical. TV Line asked the showrunner about the possibility of seeing The Rookie and 9-1-1 join forces to solve a case, and he made it clear that there were no plans to do so. Furthermore,...

If You Love 'Bob's Burgers,' You Need To Watch Its Creator's Show on Max
Image
A decade before Bob’s Burgers premiered, creator Loren Bouchard developed the cult series Home Movies, which ran for four seasons, first on Upn and then on Adult Swim. The show follows an awkward 8-year-old boy Brendon Small, voiced by the actor/comedian Brendon Small, who co-created the show before going on to co-create and star in Metalocalypse. Bob’s Burgers star H. Jon Benjamin plays Brendon's soccer coach, John McGuirk. Home Movies has a cruder animation style than Bob’s Burgers and doesn’t have the same tight sitcom plotting. This is because it’s largely improvised with scripts that are rough outlines. This gives it a unique feel and emphasizes the awkwardness of the characters. The dialogue is genuinely strange and uncomfortable in a way even the best writers can’t recreate. Although the style is more rough around the edges, everything that makes Bob’s Burgers special is present in its predecessor.

Jeff and Jordan from Big Brother answer fan questions, Jordan gets brutally honest calling out Jeff
Julie Chen Moonves in Big Brother (2000)
Big Brother couple Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder have a podcast about life, family, and their time on TV.

In a bonus episode of their podcast Togethermess, they answered some questions from fans.

One particular question had them revealing the most misunderstood things about themselves.

For Big Brother fans who need a reminder about Jeff and Jordan, they were part of the BB11 cast in 2009.

The couple returned for BB13, where Jordan finished fourth place and Jeff finished seventh. Rachel Reilly won that season over runner-up Porsche Briggs.

Since then, Jeff and Jordan have been on The Amazing Race, gotten married, and had two kids.

Buffy's Nicholas Brendon Wasn't Thrilled About Xander Losing An Eye
Image
Out of all the members of the Scooby Gang in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (as the show's core team of heroes are adorably nicknamed), it's Xander Harris who's easily undergone the biggest reassessment since the series ended in 2003. It's no surprise either, considering Xander was the closest thing the show had to an avatar for creator Joss Whedon. At least Xander had the excuse of being a teenager for much of the series; it didn't justify his selfish behavior or the way he constantly cracked wise rather than talk through his insecurities and feelings, but there was always the hope he would grow and mature as he got older. Whedon, on the other hand, was one of those guys who got bullied when he was younger, only to become a bully himself as he gained more power and influence.

Moreover, where Whedon's misconduct was swept under the rug for years...

Sarah Michelle Gellar Questioned The Very First Line In Her Buffy Audition
Image
A lot of things made "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" special, from its inversion of the helpless blonde trope to its genre-defying jumps between raucous comedy, heartfelt drama, and supernatural horror. But perhaps the most lasting impact that the series had on culture was the way that it manipulated language. Problematic series creator Joss Whedon created his own particular parlance with "Buffy," and obviously the slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, speaks it like a pro. However, it might surprise fans to learn that when Gellar first auditioned for the series' lead, she was thoroughly confused by the patois that came to be known as Buffyism.

"Well, Buffyism is basically just an odd way of speaking," Whedon said in a 1998 interview. "People often quote the sort of things that people say but we don't have a lot of phrases we like to use. Basically, it's not about creating a word that all...

Dodge Greenley, the creator of the Adult Swim x Cartoon Network crossover show Pibby, has revealed concept art of a famous Looney Tunes character in his corrupted form.

On Instagram, Greenley uploaded concept art used to sell the premise of the comically dark crossover show and how to execute it. "In development for Pibby, we used Yosemite Sam as an example of how cartoon characters might get corrupted and turn into monsters," Greenley said. "Here are a few different iterations. I was reading Chainsaw Man at the time, and I was really inspired by the Gun Devil designs."

Big Brother's Rumored All-Winners Season - Who Should Compete?
Image
Big Brother is considering hosting an all-winners season, fulfilling a longtime viewer suggestion and potentially shaking up the traditional format due to ongoing Hollywood strikes. Viewers are excited about the possibility, as they have been requesting an all-winners competition for years. This would allow houseguests to change their gameplay in a shorter, modified version of the competition. Several iconic winners, such as Ian Terry, Rachel Reilly, Dr. Will Kirby, and others, would be compelling additions to an all-winners season, with their unique strategies and gameplay making for an exciting show.

Big Brother 25 is an ongoing season, but the series is already looking ahead to its winter installment, which may be an all-winners season of returning houseguests competing for the prize. The series has been one of the most long-running reality TV competition shows, airing seasonally since 2001 and adding Celebrity Big Brother to its lineup in 2018. While the summer seasons of...

Big Brother 22’s Daniele Donato Allegedly Ruined The Season (There Are Receipts)
Image
Big Brother 22 was a disappointing season due to the blatant pre-gaming orchestrated by Daniele Donato, which made the gameplay formulaic and methodical. Daniele's previous appearances on Big Brother in seasons 8 and 13 established her as a strong competitor and a polarizing figure due to her relationship with her father, Dick. Janelle revealed that Daniele was the one responsible for initiating the pre-gaming in Bb 22, which ultimately led to a predictable outcome and a lackluster season.

Big Brother 22 was an All-Stars season meant to be one of the best, but many viewers felt it was a flop due to the blatant pre-gaming revealed to be Bb 8’s Daniele Donato’s doing. Filmed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Big Brother 22 was the second edition of All-Stars that the series has run, the first being Big Brother 7 in 2006. The first iteration of Big Brother All-Stars featured houseguests from the first 6 seasons of the series,...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast and Characters: Where are They Now
Image
It's been nearly two decades since Buffy Anne Summers and her Scoobies fended off their last apocalypse in the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Though the show's lineage continued through its spinoff Angel and traversed into the realms of novels, video games, and graphic novels, the iconic 90s series still holds a prominent place in the hearts and minds of audiences.

Various stars walked the streets of Sunnydale during Buffy the Vampire Slayer's seven-season run, bringing the monster of the week show's various slayers, vampires, and demons to life. The supernatural series' influence still plays a significant hand in shaping popular culture, with even Star Trek: Strange New Worlds emulating the show's definitive musical episode, "Once More with Feeling." Buffy the Vampire Slayer's cast similarly continues to shape the entertainment landscape, though, as Cordelia Chase actor Charisma Carpenter drew attention to in 2021, the 90s show was not without its own behind-the-scenes turmoil.

Josh Tongue earns maiden England call-up for one-off Test against Ireland
Image
London, May 24 (Ians) England on Wednesday picked uncapped seamer Josh Tongue in their Test squad, which is set to face Ireland in a one-off Test match starting at Lords from June 1, with the side facing injury concerns around pacers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson.

The 25-year old Tongue has impressed for several seasons in domestic competition for Worcestershire and was part of the England Lions tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year and featured prominently in the red ball part of that series, especially taking 5/34 and 3/77 against Sri Lanka A.

“We have been monitoring Josh (Tongue) for quite some time and he deserves this call-up to the Test squad. It will be a great experience for him to understand and get used to the environment under Ben (Stokes) and Brendon (McCullum).

It is important to have players ready to respond and with a big summer of Test cricket coming up,...

1 Duo In The Rookie: Feds Could Follow The Same Path As The Rookie's Tim & Lucy
Image
It's no secret that Tim and Lucy's relationship in The Rookie is one of the highlights of the show, and it seems like The Rookie: Feds is trying to emulate their dynamic. Tim and Lucy, better known by their ship name "Chenford," are undeniably the most popular couple in the ABC series, and viewers anxiously awaited the moment they realized they had feelings for one another. Unfortunately, due to their work relationship, a romance between Tim and Lucy had to be put on hold for several seasons.

Finally, in The Rookie season 5, the two were able to find a way to be together. Unfortunately, Chenford's problems in The Rookie can't be ignored as the show enters season 6, but their love is strong enough to last. Meanwhile, over on The Rookie: Feds, fans might have another slow-burn couple to get excited about — Laura and Brendon.

The Rookie's Renewal Is A Good Sign For The Rookie: Feds Season 2
Image
ABC renewed The Rookie for season 6, which bodes well for the future of its spinoff, The Rookie: Feds. The Rookie: Feds premiered in the fall of 2022 and exists in the same timeline as the network's most-watched drama series. ABC is undoubtedly trying to build a universe around The Rookie, but only time will tell if it's as popular as NBC's Chicago franchise or CBS's FBI shows.

The Rookie: Feds follows a similar premise to its parent show and centers around one middle-aged rookie in the FBI — Simone Clark, played by Niecy Nash-Betts. Viewers first met Simone during a backdoor pilot in The Rookie season 4, but her official first day at the Los Angeles FBI office didn't come until the spinoff's series premiere. The response to The Rookie: Feds season 1 was positive, even though it received lower ratings compared to its predecessor. But despite its average ratings and audience totals,...

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Report Card: Worst Episode, Best Crossover, Best Couple and More!
Niecy Nash in The Rookie: Feds (2022)
The Rookie: Feds had some expectations heaped on it from the moment the spinoff was announced.

The Rookie is the perfect balance of comedy, action, and romance, and as such, those were to be expected of the spinoff.

So, how did it fare?

It's worth noting that throughout the first half of The Rookie Feds Season 1, the show was establishing itself by developing characters and finding its place in The Rookie universe.

Sadly, it took so many episodes to get that done, but by the end of the season, it became much more solid.

The format was not new, with it being a spin-off.

Episodes open with a crime beginning to be committed, in progress, or after the fact. Some openers were a hit or a miss but mostly entertaining.

The season premiere introduced the characters and set up the story.

The show had a two-episode back-door pilot in the original,...

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 22 Review: Red One
Press photo of Adam Flores, Ed Ricker, Ari Kirschenbaum, Charlene Amoia, J. Richey Nash, Carter, Frank Saverino, and Vladimir Kulich after Live Evil's screening at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo.
That's one way to do a season (series?) finale.

Simone hit 49 on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 22, but FBI business doesn't care about such milestones as the team trying to solve the mystery of a buried FBI agent.

Everyone tried to get out of attending Simone's party while Brendon went all out on the gift-giving, causing Antoinette to be concerned.

For a season finale, it disappointed in more ways than one.

The episode's promo promised an insane hour filled with thrilling scenes after an FBI agent would come out of his grave, and elsewhere Simone and Carter would find themselves next to a nuclear bomb.

That's the problem with false advertising.

I understand baiting people to tune in, but it's not fun with the crossovers and these baits that may just as well be poisoned.

Most of the storylines felt truncated. There would be a build-up and then a sudden...

The Rookie Season 5 Episode 21 Spoilers: Crossover with Feds as Lucy Goes Undercover
The Rookie (2018)
We expected Lucy to go undercover but not this soon.

Lucy's interest in undercover work dominated The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20.

Isabel previewed the consequences of that choice, but that didn't deter Lucy from pursuing it.

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 20 Review: I Am Many
Niecy Nash in The Rookie: Feds (2022)
The team dealt with a cult leader on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 20, while Simone reunited with Dina because of their parents' relationship.

After discovering that he won't be able to handle Foster by himself, Garza calls upon his secret weapon. Simone was able to figure out the man by just listening.

Everything felt heavy with the theme of mass murder, and the lack of action did not make it easier.

This was one of those times when one does not envy The FBI's job. They come across some of the most deranged people to ever walk on the face of the earth, and none is more deranged than cult leaders.

On a personal level, cult leaders scare me.

That's not to say that I'm afraid of them; it's just scary the amount of control they have over their followers. How they say anything, and their followers hang on to...

England now got a clear way of playing, which makes selection easier, says Rob Key
Image
New Delhi, April 17 (Ians) On completing a year as the England men’s team managing director, Rob Key revealed the biggest positive since taking over has been the Test team playing with a lot of clarity, which in turn has made selection easier.

Since Key appointed Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as captain and coach of the Test side, England have embraced a positive and aggressive brand of Test cricket, leading to 10 wins in 12 games against New Zealand, India, South Africa and Pakistan.

“I didn’t know what was going to happen. It wasn’t really about winning or losing but getting players to maximise their potential. We’ve now got a clear way of playing, which makes selection easier, too.”

“It’s not about scoring at six an over all the time, but players need to have the ability to both soak up pressure and put bowlers under pressure as well.

Questions raised on England Test captain McCullum's role promoting gambling firm
Image
London, April 14 (Ians) England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum has landed in trouble over his involvement with an online betting and gambling organisation with the England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) talking to him over his role, British media has reported.

McCullum, the former New Zealand captain, joined 22Bet as an ambassador in January and has appeared in advertisements online. This has raised the ire of authorities like the Problem Gambling Foundation.

“We are exploring the matter and are in discussions with Brendon around his relationship with 22Bet,” the Ecb told the BBC on Thursday. “We have rules in place around gambling and will always seek to ensure these are followed.”

The BBC reported that the Ecb had clarified that McCullum was not currently under investigation.

The Ecb’s anti-discrimination code says “directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging, facilitating or authorising any other party to enter into a bet about the result,...

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 19 Review: Burn Run
Niecy Nash in The Rookie: Feds (2022)
A break is necessary for every job or relationship.

Simone and Brendon were tasked with taking care of some light office duties they had forgotten they were supposed to do on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 19.

This was an opportunity for them to take a break from the chaotic schedules that had followed them since they joined the FBI.

It was also a welcome break for Carter to have an excursion without Simone pulling something wild on going completely off-tangent.

Both of those opportunities were squandered when everyone found themselves attempting to solve a crime.

Rarely do we see the team working on different cases. It is usually one case with each team chasing down different leads. At most, it is two cases that are related in some way.

This time we saw Simone stumble into a dangerous murder-for-hire plot; Brendon and Laura encountered an overzealous podcaster convinced there was a hidden fortune,...

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 18 Review: Seeing Red
1 (2013)
That was quite fun and quite entertaining.

On The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 18, a surprise during a simple breakfast meeting between two new friends put Simone and the team in the middle of a family quarrel that could very much have had international implications.

Simone, Laura, and Brendon dealt with the issues that could arise from the job and affect their personal lives.

For Simone, it was the fact the job was demanding, both physically and mentally.

Reality had to be suspended for entertainment's sake for most of Rookie: Feds Season 1 by ignoring that Simone was advanced in age. Being so close to fifty years old is no minor feat and does affect someone.

A fifty-year-old does not have the same energy and sharpness as a twenty-year-old.

It might sound ageist, but that is a fact. The level to which this can affect their ability to do their job should be the only consideration,...
