Season 3 of Xo, Kitty has wrapped production in Seoul, South Korea, and Netflix revealed the addition of three new cast members, the promotion of a recurring player as well as the appointment of a new showrunner for the upcoming installment.

Sule Thelwell (Saint X), Soy Kim and Christine Hwang (Law and Order: Svu) have joined the cast, and Hojo Shin, who plays Jiwon, has been upped to a series regular. Valentina Garza serves as showrunner for Season 3, taking over for Jessica O’Toole who oversaw Season 2.

In season one of Netflix’s coming-of-age series Xo, Kitty, Minyeong Choi won the internet’s heart by playing Dae, a hardworking and sweet first boyfriend to the show’s titular main character.

“Kitty was always his first priority,” Choi tells The Hollywood Reporter about his character’s season one motivation. “I feel like for this season, he’s discovering himself a little bit more and trying to figure out what he actually likes and what he wants.”

After a breakup between Dae and Kitty (Anna Cathcart) in the show’s season one finale, Dae’s path has ventured out from the love interest story to one of his own, focusing on family, friendships and, most notably, music. His character’s love of singing is thrust into the spotlight this season — it even allowed Choi to deliver a fun performance of BTS member Jungkook’s summer hit, “Seven.”

Xo, Kitty matched Anna Cathcart’s main character Kitty with several other potential love interests by the end of Season 1 after she went to school at Kiss in South Korea in part to be closer Minyeong Choi’s Dae.

Dae and his best friend Min Ho, who confessed his love for Kitty on a plane at the end of Season 1, have to work through some obstacles this season when it comes to Kitty’s return to Kiss as well as some other curveballs life gives them.

Though Xo, Kitty revolves around several romantic relationships and a shape beyond a love triangle for its main character Katherine Song Covey (Anna Cathcart), lovingly dubbed “chaos queen” by her platonic soulmate Q (Anthony Keyvan), Q and Kitty’s friendship also anchors the show.

Cathcart is the first to acknowledge that her courageous character still has much work to do in figuring out her “very big, very chaotic heart” as well as supporting her friends, particularly Q as much as he has her back throughout the series.

“I feel like Q shows up for Kitty so much. There were so many times watching the season where I was like, ‘Girl, you need to show up for your friends,’” Cathcart told Deadline. “And we all know that Kitty always means well and sometimes, she just can’t help it.

Just as last season of Xo, Kitty brought out all the K-drama tunes, Season 2 cranked the needle drops up a notch.

It’s official – Xo, Kitty has been renewed for season two. Netflix’s spinoff of the popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before films debuted in May 2023 and immediately took over the #2 spot on the most popular English TV list.

“Xo, Kitty takes place in the same universe as To All the Boys, but it’s very much its own world. So fresh audiences can love it and then go back and watch the movies and read the books if they want,” said co-showrunner Sascha Rothchild in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.

Netflix’s new series Xo, Kitty delves into the life of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s Lara Jean’s younger sister. The streaming service just unveiled the first clip from the upcoming young adult romantic comedy spinoff, along with a batch of photos featuring Kitty Song Covey, played by Anna Cathcart.

“We all fell so deeply in love with Lara Jean and her story. So it felt like the greatest gift to give to Kitty was to let her as a character kind of set off on her own two feet and not put her in the shadow of either of her sisters,” explained series creator and co-showrunner Jenny Han.

Although the series is a spinoff, co-showrunners Han and Sascha Rothchild say you don’t have to watch To All the Boys to understand Xo, Kitty.
