Kapil Dev at 'Jahankilla' preview says film portrays Punjab's tradition of valour

Legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, who brought home the first World Cup for India in 1983, recently attended the screening of the Punjabi film ‘Jahankilla’. The former Indian cricketer said that the film not only entertains but it also inspires.

He also shared that the film portrays Punjab’s valorous spirit.

‘Jahankilla’ is a story of sacrifice, love, friendship, and patriotism set against the backdrop of Punjab’s villages, and is a heartfelt tribute to the first responders.

Sharing his thoughts post the preview of the film, Kapil Dev said: “I am deeply honoured to support the talented young team behind ‘Jahankilla’. Their dedication to storytelling and their portrayal of Punjab’s valorous spirit truly resonated with me. I believe this film not only entertains but also inspires, and I am proud to lend my support to such a meaningful project.”

New Delhi, Dec 3 (Ians) Punjab National Bank (Pnb), Punjab & Sind Bank (Psb) and Services Sports Control Board won their respective matches on the 2nd Hockey India Senior Men’s Inter-Department National Championship 2022 on Day 2 at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium here.

In the first match of the day, Punjab National Bank (Pnb) defeated Canara Bank 7-1 in Pool C. Gurjinder Singh hit his second hat-trick in the tournament, while Naveen Antil (3′), Sumit Toppo (4′), Satender Kumar (21′) and Vishal Antil (30′) scored one goal apiece to take Punjab National Bank to a comfortable victory. Pruthvi Raj G. N. (27′) scored the only goal for Canara Bank.

In the second Pool C match of the day, Punjab & Sind Bank defeated Sashastra Seema Bal 12-0. Jaskaran Singh was the star performer as he scored four goals. Sanjay and Maninder Singh played brilliantly as smashed hit hat-tricks. Satbir Singh (11′) and Rajinder Singh (18′) also contributed to Punjab & Sind Bank’s victory.

Mumbai, Sep 6 (Ians) Actor Mukul Dev, who is set to star in a film based on the unsung heroes of Indian football, says the sport has been his constant love since childhood.

Titled "Barefoot Warriors", the film in question is about the first national football team of independent India. The story is inspired by the Indian team that played brilliantly at the 1948 London Olympics despite most players playing barefoot, and becoming eligible to participate in the 1950 World Cup.

"It's a very exciting project. Football has been a constant love since I was a kid. It's like a journey back to those times," said the actor.

"India has a glorious footballing past and it's about those heroes who made it happen despite all odds and even to the extent that they didn't even have shoes to play football. It's a great story waiting to be told on celluloid. We can't wait...
