Image
While the Halloween Season has been underway for a couple weeks now, this week is a special one because it actually marks the official start of Fall. And Halloween is inching closer!

The next several weeks will be loaded up with far more horror than this week is set to deliver, but we’re still getting seven brand new movies – one of which arrives in theaters.

Here’s all the new horror releasing between September 20 – September 25, 2022!

First up, Bloody Disgusting has unleashed the Screambox Original mockumentary When the Screaming Starts today, the film now available for streaming exclusively on Screambox.

Fangoria’s Editor-in-Chief Phil Nobile Jr. raved that When the Screaming Starts “does for serial killers what What We Do in the Shadows did for vampires.”

Watch the official trailer for When the Screaming Starts below.

Directed by Conor Boru, When the Screaming Starts follows struggling journalist turned filmmaker Norman,...

Scott Friend
To the Moon Review: A Violent, Surprising, and Reality-Blurring Psychological Thriller
Scott Friend
“Malevolent” is the word Dennis (writer-director Scott Friend) uses to describe his estranged brother Roger (Will Brill). That’s quite the adjective without context, but one that quickly seems to fit as more details begin surfacing. There’s a medical book in their parents’ old home—which now belongs to them both equally—that Dennis’ wife Mia (Madeleine Morgenweck) finds defaced with a child’s drawings that make it seem Roger wasn’t happy to be getting a brother. Talk about where the elder sibling has been gleans the fact that part of his absence was spent in a hospital (we can only assume mental). He says it’s all in the past. That he’s a “new man” reborn. Mia didn’t know him previously, so he appears genuine now. Dennis has reservations.

What we learn very early in To the Moon, however, is that Dennis isn’t in...

To The Moon – Review
Image
To The Moon bears an intriguingly vague title. Space-travel sci-fi? Werewolves howling? Ralph Kramden’s recurring threat to Alice on The Honeymooners (my age must be showing from that reference)? Or an homage to those who boldly bare their backsides for amusement or social commentary?

Answer: none of the above.

What we get is an eerily suspenseful psychological thriller set in an isolated cabin in the woods, during a dreary winter. All movie buffs know that something wicked must that way come whenever any city folk or college kids head for such a setting. The legacy from decades of those films adds to the sense of looming menace, as we wonder exactly what is the other shoe, who’s wearing it, and when will it drop?

An obviously distressed couple, Dennis and Mia, head to his family’s really remote cottage for a few days of trying to heal a...

"Road to recovery, it's not… it's not a solo journey." "We have to be at peace in ourselves…" 1091 Pictures has revealed an official trailer for psychedelic / psychological thriller film titled To the Moon, from actor / filmmaker Scott Friend now making his directorial debut. This premiered at a few film festivals last year and should be out to watch later this year. Struggling addict and TV actor Dennis retreats to his remote family home with his wife Mia in a last ditch effort to detox and save their marriage. Their isolation is disrupted when Dennis' estranged brother Roger unexpectedly arrives in the middle of their first night, pushing the couple's commitment to each other to the limit as Roger infiltrates their relationship. As Dennis' nightmares and actions become more disturbing, they are tasked with distinguishing reality from hallucination. The small cast features Scott Friend, Madeleine Morgenweck, and Will Brill. Yellow Veil Pictures Closes Deal With 1091 Pictures for Scott Friend’s Directorial Debut ‘To the Moon’ (Exclusive)

New York City and L.A.-based indie distributor 1091 Pictures, known for such hit releases as Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” Spirit Awards winner “Christine” and knockout comedy “The Overnight,” has swooped in on rights to all English-speaking territories for psychedelic thriller “To the Moon.” The drama, sold by Yellow Veil Pictures, marks the directorial debut of actor Scott Friend (“The Dark End of the Street”), who also wrote the pic and plays a lead role in it.

The movie, which is debuting its first poster in Variety, premiered last year at the online film festival Nightstream, and was in selection at the 2020 U.S. in Progress industry showcase organized by Wroclaw’s American Film Festival, which later hosted the pic’s international premiere.

“To the Moon” is a twist on the unwanted-house-guest trope. It follows a young couple, played by Friend and Madeleine Morgenweck, who find...
