Toney double helps Brentford stun Manchester City in Premier League
Image
London, Nov 13 (Ians) Brentford striker Ivan Toney made his point after being left out of the England squad for the World Cup finals on Saturday when he scored both goals in his side’s surprise 2-1 win away to Manchester City.

Toney was on hand to finish off the winner by the visitors in the 98th minute of the game, with an easy finish on the six-yard line.

He had put Brentford ahead in the 19th minute with a trademark powerful header, although Phil Foden’s left-foot shot on the stroke of halftime levelled the score, reports Xinhua.

Brentford then resisted possession football, with the home side having 74 per cent of the ball, but despite plenty of shots, City were unable to get the ball past David Raya, who will travel to the World Cup with Spain after a very solid display.

Manchester City’s defeat allowed Arsenal to open...

Unhappy return to Brighton for Chelsea boss Potter in Premier League
Image
London, Oct 30 (Ians) Graham Potter suffered an unhappy return as he led his Chelsea side to Brighton, just seven weeks after swapping the south-coast club for south-west London.

Brighton won 4-1 to claim their first win under Potter’s replacement, Roberto De Zerbi, with two own goals not helping Chelsea’s cause.

Leandro Trossard fired Brighton in front in the fifth minute before first Ruben Loftus-Cheek and then Trevoh Chalobah turned crosses into their own net to make it 3-0 before halftime, reports Xinhua.

Kai Havertz gave Chelsea hope with a 48th minute shot, but Brighton defended well and Pascal Gross scored Brighton’s fourth goal in second half injury time.

Kevin de Bruyne scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City won 1-0 away to Leicester City to go top of the table ahead of Arsenal’s game on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side were without Erling Haaland with a foot injury,...

Leaders Arsenal held at Southampton, Newcastle up to fourth
Image
London, Oct 24 (Ians) Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League was reduced to two points when they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.

Arsenal got off to a confident start that was rewarded when Granit Xhaka put them ahead with a low finish on Sunday evening, but after suffering in the first half, Southampton recovered after the break.

Stuart Armstrong equalised after a flowing move after 65 minutes, and although Martin Odegaard thought he had scored a late winner for the visitors, the ball had previously gone out of play, reports Xinhua.

Newcastle United claimed a 2-1 win away to Tottenham to climb up to fourth in the table.

Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the 31st minute after a Var check confirmed he hadn’t fouled Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris. Miguel Almiron doubled the lead 10 minutes later after beating Lloris at his near post.
