'Dune: Prophecy' Star Josh Heuston Reveals Season 2 Filming Date
Image
Set in the same universe as Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-winning movie franchise, Dune: Prophecyis a prequel series that aired on HBO and Max last year to generally positive reviews. The network moved quickly to renew the epic action series for Season 2 before the finale, and it seems the big-budget production will begin rolling cameras sooner rather than later. Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,00 years before the events of the film series and follows the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a super-powered sociopolitical and religious entity with far-reaching influence across the galaxy.

During an interview with Collider, Dune: Prophecy star Josh Heuston, who portrays Constantine Corrino in the show, revealed that Season 2 will begin filming this August and continue until the end of the year. There is no release date yet, but fans can probably expect the show to return on HBO and Max sometime in 2026. For reference, the first season took...

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Star Reveals When Season 2 Will Start Filming [Exclusive]
Image
Dune: Prophecy wrapped up its first season before Christmas last year, and the show was renewed for Season 2 mere days before the episode premiered on Max. Details about the second season of Dune: Prophecy have been sparse, as Max is playing things close to the vest when it comes to revealing new details to the public. However, the second season of the Dune prequel series just got a major update from one of its stars. Collider’s Steve Weintraub had the chance to chat with Josh Heuston, who plays Constantine Corrino in the series, while Heuston was promoting his upcoming project, Dangerous Animals. While refraining from using the Voice to get any new information, Weintraub asked Heuston if he was in Season 2, and he didn’t hold back on confirming his status and even revealing when the next installment would begin filming:

"Yes. Definitely in Season 2. We go back, I believe,...

Emily Watson will start work on Dune: Prophecy season 2 later this year
Image
Last year, HBO tried its hand at making a Dune TV show: set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides was born, Dune: Prophecy told the story of Valya and Tula Harkonnen (Emily Watson and Olivia Williams), sisters who are in charge of the Bene Gesserit order during this early period in its history. The first season only lasted six episodes, but they were lushly produced, splendidly acted, and ended leaving fans wanting more. HBO will give it to them with a second season.

When it comes to these big sci-fi and fantasy projects, fans have gotten used to having to wait years between new seasons. Unfortunately, that looks like it will also happen with Dune: Prophecy. Although we don't know all the details, Emily Watson told ScreenRant that she expects filming on the second season to start up later this year. "I think we are going to start in the fall, and...

Lila's Condition in 'Dune Prophecy' Foreshadows a Tragic Atreides Family Member's Fate
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains major spoilers for Frank Herbert's Dune books, which could spoil future Dune movies. The first season of Dune: Prophecy ended with several major changes to the balance of power in the galactic Imperium, most of which affect the Sisterhood directly. While the group’s leaders, sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) confront their more overt enemies on the royal planet of Salusa Secundus, the deceased Dorotea (Camilla Beeput) returns to a form of life by possessing the body of her young granddaughter, Lila (Chloe Lea), and wins the loyalty of many of the Sisters on Wallach IX by revealing how Valya and her followers attained and kept power through a combination of lies, murder, and the use of forbidden thinking machines. But how exactly did Dorotea manage this resurrection after a young Valya (Jessica Barden) killed her decades ago? The answer...

Dune: Prophecy stars warn that their characters "are not women to emulate"
Image
The first season finale of Dune: Prophecy is in the can, and it was by far the most action-packed, eventful episode of the show so far. The twists came fast and furious. Desmond Hart arrested Tula Harkonnen, who it ends up is his mother! Valya Harkonnen travels to Arrakis with Princess Ynez and Kieran Atreides! And things at the Bene Gesserit school on Wallach IX have completely fallen apart.

It sets up a lot of exciting plotlines for season 2, which we now know is coming. In the meanwhile, we got to participate in a roundtable interview with lead actors Emily Watson (Valya) and Olivia Williams (Tula), as well as Dune: Prophecy showrunner Alison Schapker.

Between them, Valya and Tula have a very large body count. They've both done some unsavory things in the name of expanding the Sisterhood, and not just to their enemies. Early on in the show, Tula...

Dune: Prophecy boss teases the new plotlines on the way in season 2
Image
The first season of Dune: Prophecy wrapped up last night with "The High-Handed Enemy," an eventful episode that left many of our characters in new and unexpected places. On Wallach IX, Dorotea — a Bene Gesserit sister killed decades ago — took over the body of her granddaughter Lila (Chloe Lea) and is now trying to steer the Sisterhood in a whole new direction. Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) is now a prisoner of her son Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) on the planet Salusa Secundus, and Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) has traveled with Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and swordmaster Kieran Atredies (Chris Mason) to the desert world of Arrakis to find out who's been manipulating Desmond from behind the scenes, and why.

Those are a lot of threads to leave dangling ahead. Happily, we now know the show will continue with a second season. Unhappily, it probably won't happen for a couple of years.

Dune: Prophecy episode 6 | Baby, it’s cold outside

HBO’s saga of scheming space nuns and clueless royals rumbles to a close. Our review of Dune: Prophecy episode 6…

Nb: The following contains relatively minor spoilers for Dune: Prophecy episode 6. All the same, we’d advise you watch the finale first before reading the paragraphs below.

Together, dear readers, we’ve made it. Through the jarring edits, the meaningful looks, the scheming and the space weasels. Everything we’ve experienced in Dune: Prophecy so far has built to this – the grand finale. The moment where truths are revealed and scores are settled. Well, sort of.

In the land of television, final episodes are often supposed to leave us with something to chew over and questions to ask ourselves. But not quite like this. Maybe it’s just this writer, but there were at least two moments in episode six that prompted reactions along the lines of, ‘Eh?’ and ‘Wait,...

Dune: Prophecy hits the gas in eventful season 1 finale (Episode 6 review)
Image
Dune: Prophecy serves up a meaty finale worthy of its expanded hour-and-20-minute runtime. This was a proper climax to the six episodes so far, and now that we know the show is coming back for a second season, I can rest easy knowing we'll actually get to see what happens next.

And I want to see what happens next, despite some issues I've had with the show over the course of this first season. There's a feeling that Dune: Prophecy tried to fit too much into six episodes. Especially in these last two, things have felt a bit squished.

But there's still a lot to enjoy. Let's dive into the details for our final Dune: Prophecy review of the year:

Dune: Prophecy review: Episode 6, "The High-Handed Enemy"

At the end of the last episode, Tula learned that Desmond Hart is actually her son by Orry Atreides. At the beginning of this one,...

Dune: Prophecy Episode 6 Review - An Action-Packed Yet Frustrating Finale Offers A Promising Glimpse Into A Superior Season 2
Image
Warning: This review contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy's season finale

After Tula discovers Desmond Hart is her son, Dune: Prophecy delivers another mixed bag of an episode. Across its first five, the prequel has varied in quality. Billed as a Bene Gesserit origin story, the series has been light on the in-fighting within the Sisterhood, focusing instead on an anti-Imperium rebellion, authoritarianism under the reign of Emperor Javico Corrino, and a strange and troubling prophecy that has something to do with the Machine War that took place before the events of the series.

Set in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series, this sci-fi epic follows the political and spiritual struggles on the desert planet of Arrakis. As factions vie for control of the prized spice melange, a prophesied hero emerges, challenging the balance of power and the fate of the galaxy.

“A truly boring character”: Dune: Prophecy’s 1 Frustrating Mistake Makes It an Unworthy Successor to Denis Villeneuve’s Masterpiece Films
Image
Denis Villeneuve has already created a masterpiece with his Dune duology. However, Warner Bros.’s poor attempt at recreating the similar scale and vision of his universe with Dune: Prophecy has failed spectacularly, to say the least.

Dune: Prophecy [Credit: HBO]

The studio could not grasp the depth and layers that the complex narrative of Villeneuve’s universe holds, let alone implement it on a subliminal level in the new series. As such, Dune: Prophecy makes a daring few attempts to rise to the levels that its parent universe laid down for the fans. But even after 6 episodes, it ultimately fails to ascend to the level of perfection that Villeneuve achieved within his 2-hour-long masterpieces.

Emily Watson, Mark Strong, Olivia Williams, and Travis Fimmel in Dune: Prophecy (2024)
Dune: Prophecy episode 5 review | What is this abomination?
Emily Watson, Mark Strong, Olivia Williams, and Travis Fimmel in Dune: Prophecy (2024)
Veteran TV actor Barbara Marten is the standout in another uneven Dune: Prophecy chapter. Our review of episode 5:

Nb: In line with Film Stories policy, the following review is certified spoiler-free for Dune: Prophecy episode 4, but does contain spoilers for earlier instalments.

In a series so far heavy on serious faces and whispered rumours of doom, one of its unexpected delights is actor Barbara Marten. A veteran of such British TV shows as Brookside, Casualty and The Bill, she’s quietly bustled and swished through Dune: Prophecy as the captivatingly severe Sister Avila.

A voice of reason among the increasingly fractious sisterhood, Avila’s one of those characters who doesn’t drive the plot, but instead becomes a welcome presence who you’re always pleased to see whenever they show up.

In episode five, Avila stumbles on a secret Tula (Olivia Williams) has kept secret for a few days...

Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 Spoiler Review and Recap — Shifting Alliances and Uncovering Conspiracies
Image
Episode 4 of Dune: Prophecy saw the conspiracy to dethrone Emperor Corrino reach an explosive climax with an assassination attempt getting foiled. In episode 5, we see the characters deal with the aftermath of that, but the result is much less thrilling, causing the show to fall back into the ways of its earlier episodes.

Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 Recap

At the beginning of the episode, we see Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) suiting up in a new uniform for his new role as the Emperor’s Bashar — the commander of the Sardaukar. Corrino (Mark Strong) says that now more than ever, they must defend their values. He tasks Desmond with eradicating treason, which causes Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) to storm away in anger.

Desmond encourages Corrino to prioritize showing strength over facilitating trade. Meanwhile, Sister Francesca (Tabu) arrives at the request of Constantine, who is revealed to be her son. Constantine (Josh Heuston...

Set in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series, this sci-fi epic follows the political and spiritual struggles on the desert planet of Arrakis. As factions vie for control of the prized spice melange, a prophesied hero emerges, challenging the balance of power and the fate of the galaxy.

‘Dune Prophecy’s Latest Episode Proves the Show’s Main Villain Isn’t Who We Think
Image
This week's episode of Dune: Prophecy features a major escalation of stakes in several ways. Not only does Desmond Hart's (Travis Fimmel) fiery demonstration at the Landsraad pit Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong) against the Great Houses, but the death of Evgeny Harkonnen (Mark Addy) in the episode's final moments likewise marks a turning point for the future of Valya's (Emily Watson) disgraced house. Yet, despite Episode 4's public executions and private betrayals, one of the most unnerving scenes in the latest installment of Max's prequel series is when Lila (Chloe Lea) is seemingly resurrected in the depths of Wallach IX, with the character's unnatural return bringing audiences one step closer to the true villain of Dune: Prophecy.

Dune: Prophecy turns up the heat in its best episode yet, "Twice Born"
Image
Dune: Prophecy is firing on pretty much every cylinder it has in its fourth episode, "Twice Born." The plot moves forward, the twists keep coming, and the character work is solid. That doesn't seem to have translated into this Dune prequel becoming a runaway hit, but it's enough for me.

Let's start with our B-plot on Wallach IX, where young Sister Emeline (Aoife Hinds) goes for a nighttime sleepwalk only to nearly take her own life in front of that weird reflecting pool in the school's courtyard, driven by some mysterious force. Sister Jen (Faoileann Cunningham) is there to wake her up. In fact, all of the young Bene Gesserit sisters-in-training were having nightmares, although Jen claims to be immune. To get the bottom of things, Tula (Olivia Williams) gives them all spice pellets and guides them in an art therapy exercise designed to help them remember what they saw.

'My Movie Dad': Timothee Chalamet & Matthew McConaughey Reunite 10 Years After Interstellar
Image
Actor Timothée Chalamet is probably best known for his recent roles in Denis Villenueve’s Dune movie franchise, and as Willy Wonka in 2023’s Wonka, but 10 years ago he played the son of Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Chalamet was a guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay show during which he predicted a win for McConaughey’s favorite team, the Texas Longhorns.

After the show, Chalamet posted on his Instagram a photo of himself and McConaughey with the caption: “My movie dad Cooper” with a teary-eyed emoji. Although the Longhorns ended up losing to the Georgia Bulldogs in the game, Chalamet’s Instagram followers were more interested in the reunion between the two actors who worked together in 2014 than in the game itself. More than 3,200 people commented on his post, which also has more than 740,000 likes. The official Interstellar movie Instagram account commented on Chalamet’s post saying,...

‘Dune: Prophecy’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Cameos Are Fueling Comparisons
Image
When Game of Thrones ended its eight-season run with its divisive finale in 2019, it was among the most watched series of all time. So, naturally, networks across the TV landscape were clamoring to find the next show that would recapture the original's enticing blend of political intrigue, intense violence, and pitiless storytelling. Plenty of shows have been labeled "the next Game of Thrones" over the past five years, from FX's Shogun to HBO's own attempt to recapture the magic in the prequel series House of the Dragon. And with the release of Dune: Prophecy, another big-budget epic has entered the fray.

While many shows have attempted to replicate Game of Thrones' success, very few of them have come anywhere close to its level of zeitgeist-capturing popularity. Time will tell if Dune: Prophecy becomes a true successor, but one thing that makes the comparison even more inevitable is the presence of some recognizable GoT faces.

Who Is the Real Villain in ‘Dune: Prophecy?'
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Dune: Prophecy

The latest prequel series in the massive Dune franchise details the origins of the Bene Gesserit and chronicles the early steps the secretive sisterhood took in steering the trajectory of the Imperium from the shadows. Unlike Denis Villeneuve’s films, Dune: Prophecy takes place in the worlds beyond Arrakis and its desert sands. In fact, there’s hardly a worm in sight. What the series does possess is an array of various villains, all vying for ultimate control and power. In the show’s first episode, viewers were introduced to Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), who heartlessly used his “gift” to murder Lord Pruwet Richeseand (Charlie Hodson-Prior) and is believed to have done the same to Reverend Mother Kasha Jinjo (Jihae). As such, he’s clearly the primary villain of the series, or so viewers might have initially thought.

That being said, in a series...

The ‘Dune: Prophecy’ Sets Have a Secret Built Into Them
Image
[Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for Episode 3 of “Dune: Prophecy”]

Say whatever you will about Frank Herbert and Brian Herbert, but you cannot accuse them of being narrow in scope or not comprehensive in the fictional worlds they’ve built. There is a 10,000-year gap between the Denis Villeneuve “Dune” films and the events of “Dune: Prophecy,” and enough lore for production designer Tom Meyer to imbue every piece of that history into the design of the HBO series.

The assignment is a designer’s dream in many ways; Meyer needed to create a variety of extremely different environments that would be immediately visually distinct, even if they all share the same large-scale, imposing geometric force established in the films. But whether with the stern austerity of the Bene Gesserit base on Wallach IX or the cancerous grandeur that could potentially swallow up the Corrino family on Salusa Secundus, Meyer thought through how well, or how harshly, history would have treated them.

Dune: Prophecy Episode 3 Review - A Focus On Valya & Tula Allows For A Tightly Structured, Thrilling Entry

Now, after her confrontation with Desmond Hart, the series takes us to Lankiveil, the home planet of House Harkonnen, where much of this episode's action takes place as we track the formative years of Valya and Tula.

One 'Dune: Prophecy' Scene Was Better Than Villeneuve's Version

Quick Links What Is the Spice Agony Ritual? The Terrifying Revelation in 'Dune: Prophecy' The Price for Power Must Be Paid in 'Dune Prophecy'

Dune: Prophecy has proven skeptics wrong, with four episodes left in the six-episode series. While the Max series, created by Alison Schapker, is set over 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), it still emulates the tone set in Dune and Dune: Part Two by director Denis Villeneuve. The films instantly became cinematic masterpieces, and Villeneuve managed to accurately adapt the story created by the author of the Dune book series, Frank Herbert.

There was, however, a concept in the films that Villeneuve barely scratched the surface of: the Spice Agony. Not only does the spin-off series center on the Harkonnen sisters, Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula (Olivia Williams), and their quest for vengeance and running The Sisterhood (the Bene Gesserit), but...

Episode 2 of Dune: Prophecy closed out with a face-off between what are widely viewed as the show's most interesting characters, and it looks like the shocking developments that followed have taken their toll on Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson).

Spoilers follow.

Towards the end of "Two Wolves," Valya returned to Salusa Secundus to find herself confronted by the enigmatic Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), who had previously admitted to using his strange pyrotechnic abilities to murder both Revered Mother Kasha (Jinhae) and the young Pruwet Richese (Charlie Hodson-Prior).

Upon learning that Hart - who apparently survived being swallowed by a sandworm on Arrakis - had made it his mission to wipe out the Sisterhood entirely, Valya uses "the Voice" to command the soldier to plunge his own dagger into his throat. Incredibly, Hart manages to resist the order.

"I always wondered what your greatest fear would be," he responds. "Now I have seen it.

'Dune: Prophecy's Sandworms Were Approved by Denis Villeneuve
Image
Following Dune Part Two's massive success, it was no surprise that Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary would want to expand on the mythos with a television series. Dune: Prophecy recently premiered its first episode on HBO, providing insight into the world of Dune thousands of years before the birth of Paul Atreides. With a focus on the Sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit, Dune: Prophecy is more concerned with the origins of the manipulative and powerful Harkonnen family, showcasing how the quarrels of the royal houses in the past would help shape the world that would lead to the events of Denis Villeneuve's films.

Despite the series' disconnect from the feature films, there is still overlap since they occur in the same shared Dune universe. Both thematically and visually, Dune: Prophecy matches the style and aesthetic of the two films Villeneuve created, especially in its production design. Look no further...

The HBO series, directed by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Set centuries before Paul Atreides' rise in Dune, Dune: Prophecy focuses on sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), charting their rise to power. The series also stars Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, a rogue mercenary, and Chloe Lea as Lila, a young acolyte whose connection to the Bene Gesserit becomes critical at the end of episode 2.

HBO/Max has dropped a trailer for Dune: Prophecy's next episode, teasing a return to the Harkonnen homeland and showcasing the fallout of Lilas near-death encounter during the ritual known as "The Agony," wherein Sisters must overcome a poison-induced reunion with their ancestors.
