Image
Disgraced comedy icon Bill Cosby is mourning his late Cosby Show co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner, whom he considered to be a son both on and off the screen.

On Sunday, Warner, who played the Huxtable Family’s only son Theodore on The Cosby Show, died at the age of 54 in a drowning accident while on a family vacation at Playa Cocles in Limón Province, Costa Rica. Warner’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through the TV comedy industry, as fans and co-stars alike have spent the beginning of this week grieving the late actor and celebrating his contributions to the craft. Among the many mourners of the TV icon is Cosby, who claims that, despite his own public fall from grace due to a 2018 conviction for sexual assault that was later overturned, he and Warner maintained a close relationship and talked regularly.

In an interview with ABC News, Cosby said, “Malcolm calls here regularly,...

Eight Classic (And Not-So-Classic) Sci-Fi Movies Set In 2025
Image
We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. Welcome to 2025. It's the future.

Or rather, it's the present, but 2025 is a nice round number for writers of sci-fi screenplays. It's fun to speculate, and sci-fi writers typically take a version of the present, extrapolate it forward, and present a high-tech utopia or dystopia based directly on what we're going through right now. For writers in the 1950s, sci-fi futures were drawn from present-day booms in travel technology, predicting leaps forward in the development of rockets and space vehicles. For writers in the 1980s, sci-fi futures tended to be nuclear post-apocalyptic wastelands, extrapolated forward from the lingering threat of nuclear annihilation hovering over the Reagan administration. For writers in the 2010s, sci-fi futures were more cell-phone-based, positing worlds where microtechnology telecommunications would invade every aspect of our lives.

Hopefully, the garment will bring more luck for the new bride than for Chloe, who married Michael Shiakallis in Season 17.

Stephen King Cover Artist Shares 44-Year-Old Lord of the Rings Gollum Interpretation
Image
Michael Whelan shares his 1979 interpretation of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, which depicts his lamp-like eyes that are omitted in Andy Serkis' version. Andy Serkis is considered the definitive version of Gollum due to his exceptional performance and pioneering work in motion capture technology. Whelan's interpretation and others may be more visually accurate to J.R.R. Tolkien's description, but Serkis' popularity and portrayal make him the definitive Gollum.

Stephen King cover artist Michael Whelan shares his own 44-year-old interpretation of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. First introduced in The Hobbit, Gollum was a Stoor hobbit formerly known as Sméagol who was corrupted and twisted by the power of One Ring and transformed into a wretched creature. In Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, Gollum was portrayed through motion capture and voiced by Andy Serkis.

Top 10 TV Dad List Sparks Debate by Omitting The Cosby Show's Cliff Huxtable
Image
If you're discussing the best dads in television history, should Bill Cosby's Cliff Huxtable from The Cosby Show be a part of that conversation? For many fans of the sitcom, it's inaccurate to leave him out of it, arguing that the character should be separated from the actor. It's a debate that recently was sparked on Twitter in response to a post from @MadScientistFF ranking the "Top 10 Greatest TV Dads of All Time." The tweet also asks others to name which "TV Dad is missing," and that prompted a lot of replies bringing up Cliff Huxtable.

"Cliff Huxtable should be #1," one fan of The Cosby Show stated. "He changed the way many Black people moved in the world because we saw what was possible. I'm not debating Cosby. But to say he wasn't the only TV dad that transformed a culture would be disingenuous and make any list like this dishonest.
