‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’ Preview: Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo Interview
Image
The NCIS franchise expands with NCIS: Tony & Ziva, welcoming back two fan-favorite characters for new adventures in Europe. Season one, starring Michael Weatherly as Tony Dinozzo and Cote de Pablo as Ziva David, premieres on Paramount+ on September 4, 2025 with the release of the first three episodes. New episodes will stream on Thursdays.

Paramount+ offered this description of the latest addition to the NCIS franchise: “NCIS: Tony & Ziva picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then — and where we find them in NCIS: Tony & Ziva — Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try...

NCIS: Tony & Ziva Trailer Teases Romance, Chaos, and Gen X Snark
Image
Tony and Ziva are back — and so is the tension, the banter, and the chaos.

Paramount+ dropped the official trailer for NCIS: Tony & Ziva at San Diego Comic-Con, giving longtime fans a first look at the highly anticipated spinoff that brings the fan-favorite duo back into action.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, this isn’t just a nostalgic reunion — it’s a wild ride through Europe with assassins, disguises, killer cars, and more than a few unresolved feelings.

(Marcell Piti/Paramount+)

Set years after Ziva’s “death” and eventual return, the series picks up with the couple raising their daughter, Tali, in Paris — though not quite as a couple.

When Tony’s security firm is attacked, the trio is thrust into a cross-continental chase full of espionage, explosions, and a romantic comedy flair that would make any undercover mission blush.

Cinematographer Christopher Ross On Capturing “The Gray Area Of The Human Condition” In ‘The Day Of The Jackal’
Image
For The Day of the Jackal, cinematographer Christopher Ross says the approach to the job was to capture the “world of lies” that both protagonists live in. Every assassination had moments of misdirection, on both sides, which needed to be captured on camera as small clues for the audience to piece together what is really going on.

The Day of the Jackal follows a professional British assassin called the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), known only for his ruthless and mysterious methods, and Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch), an MI6 agent intent on hunting him down. Since the two protagonists are opposing forces, it was important for Ross that both sides were presented to the audience in a way that allowed them to be both rooted for and against.

Surprise! NCIS: Tony and Ziva will reunite the characters earlier than expected
Image
The NCIS: Tony & Ziva first-look trailer made me laugh like a little kid. As a surprise, Paramount+ announced the spinoff would be coming in August 2025 instead of later in the fall. During the May 8, 2025 Paramount Global Earnings Call, Paramount touched base on their shows, mentioning that Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 premiered earlier that day, NCIS: Tony & Ziva had been moved up to an August release, and four of Taylor Sheridan's shows filled the rest of the year's schedule.

Tony Dinozzo is one of my favorite characters. Although I loved Kate Todd and was devastated by her departure, it allowed CBS to cast a hardcore female agent who would test Tony like Kate did for two seasons. Ziva's addition in season 3 was the perfect move for the franchise. But no one knew they'd become an NCIS on-and-off-again love story to last decades.

Tony and Ziva are on the run this fall in new NCIS spinoff on Paramount+ (first look!)
Image
NCIS fans rejoice as we finally get our first look at Tony and Ziva back in action in their new Paramount+ spinoff!

NCIS has become a cash cow franchise for CBS. From its start as a spinoff of the legal drama Jag in 2003, the series remains one of the network’s highest-rated shows. Viewers never get enough of this squad of agents handling various military crimes with some action and humor.

The show has spawned five spinoffs, including the NCIS: Origins prequel. Now it’s time for one that fans have been eagerly awaiting a fantastic return of NCIS’ original power couple!

For years, NCIS fans loved the chemistry between Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). The pair bantered a lot, clashing and needling each other but clearly a deep attraction between them.

That seemed to end when de Pablo left the series in season 11, and...

NCIS reveals release window for Tony and Ziva spinoff (and its sooner than we expected)
Image
Tony and Ziva is the NCIS series that has fans most intrigued. NCIS: Sydney has done an excellent job of introducing new characters, and NCIS: Origins has managed to reignite fan interest in the past of a beloved veteran, but Tony and Ziva is a direct sequel to the flagship series.

It's an interesting proposition, especially since we haven't gotten to see Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) or Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) in action for over a decade. We're eager to catch up with them, and while NBC has been hesitant to issue a proper release date, we now have a window in which we can expect to see the spinoff.

I Think Paramount+ Is Making a Huge Mistake With NCIS: Tony & Ziva
Image
NCIS lost a big part of what made it so great when Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva’s (Cote de Pablo) departed, several years apart.

Tiva was the lifeblood of the CBS hit for so many years, but I couldn’t help but feel unsettled by how they were hastily brought back together off-screen.

Ziva and Tony finally got their happily-ever-after in NCIS Season 17, which brought Ziva’s comeback to a rushed conclusion.

(Marcell Piti/Paramount+)

Tony had actually walked away from the team almost four years earlier, so now that we know NCIS: Tony & Ziva is in the final stages of production, it feels like we’re in an alternate universe.

Many NCIS fans have dreamed of it for years, and now that it’s finally happening, I’m starting to get the feeling that it will be a big disaster.

5 burning questions for The Day of the Jackal season 2
Image
The Day of the Jackal season 2 is coming, and there’s a lot of loose ends that are still on our minds. Here's 5 burning questions we're looking forward to getting the answer to in the second season, which has been renewed. Spoilers from The Day of the Jackal season 1 below.

Season 1 of the Peacock thriller followed the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), a freelance assassin preparing to kill tech billionaire Ulle Dag Charles. Hunting him was Bianca (Lashana Lynch), an MI6 agent.

The finale had the Jackal succeed in killing Charles but was injured while on the run. After quitting Mi-6 over her superiors not seeming to care about catching the Jackal, Bianca was talked into tracking him off the books by superior Isabel. She hunted the Jackal to Spain but, in a shocking turn, the Jackal killed her.

The Jackal left only to be sideswiped by a car. It then cut...

The Day of the Jackal made a big mistake killing (Spoiler)
Image
The Day of the Jackal ended its first season with a shocking death that may be a bad move for the show!

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for the season 1 finale of The Day of the Jackal.

The Peacock adaptation of the classic novel followed the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), a freelance assassin, trying to kill tech billionaire Ulle Dag Charles. Meanwhile, Mi-6 agent Bianca (Lashana Lynch) was tracking him down.

The penultimate episode had the Jackal succeed in killing Charles, only to be injured while escaping. Meanwhile, Bianca was tracking him down, only for her boss Isabel to shut her down. Bianca worried that someone higher up didn’t seem to care if Jackal succeeded or not. Outraged at this, Bianca quit the agency. She went home to her husband to apologize and seemed ready to move on.

However, pushed by her superiors, Isabel told Bianca she needed her back on the case.

One of Peacock's biggest shows of 2024 is getting a broadcast debut (Might it lead to more?)
Image
It looks like NBC has decided to follow in the footsteps of other competitive networks to try something new. The Day of the Jackal has become one of the biggest shows for the company's streaming service Peacock. And perhaps now, the momentum can keep going with a smart move.

NBC will broadcast the first episode of The Day of the Jackal starring Eddie Redmayne on Monday, Dec. 30 at 10 p.m. Et. As of this writing, the network did not share whether more episodes of the season will eventually air as well. It's likely NBC wants to test the waters to see how well the show will do with a television debut first.

Personally, I think there's a really good chance that this move could lead to more. The Day of the Jackal has a total of 10 episodes, which are all now streaming on Peacock. It's been a hit with viewers online,...

The Day of the Jackal season 2 probably isn't coming in 2025 (here's why)
Image
After an exciting and successful six-episodes, The Day of the Jackal ended its first season on a high note. No one saw the surprising season finale twist coming (I didn't!), but the ending definitely laid the groundwork for an even more exciting second season of the spy thriller. Thankfully, Peacock and Sky gave the series a quick renewal for season 2 after only a few weeks into season 1.

Between its excellent acting and storytelling and the breakaway viewership success, The Day of the Jackal was easily one of the best Peacock shows of 2024, and now that the first season is already in the books, all of us fans will be looking ahead to what's next. More specifically, we understandably want to know when they can see the Jackal back in action in season 2.

Well, there's some good and bad news on that front. While The Day of the Jackal season 2 has...

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Gets Down to Business in a Brutal Finale — Spoilers
Image
[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “The Day of the Jackal” Episode 10, including the ending.]

“You remind me of my parents,” the man who goes by “Richard” (Eddie Redmayne) says to his elderly captive, Trevor (Philip Jackson).

“How did you get on with them?” Trevor replies.

“They were nice people,” Richard says, before clarifying: “Well-meaning people — like you.”

“If they were so nice,” Trevor says, accepting none of Richard’s bullshit, “where did you come from?”

In its first season, “The Day of the Jackal” doesn’t answer that question. Not completely, anyway. We see Richard, aka the Jackal, spending time in the British Army during the Second Gulf War, when he’s first approached about becoming an assassin for hire, but we don’t get any insight into how he became the world’s best sniper, who he was before enlisting, or what drove him to see life from behind a rifle’s scope in the first place.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Earns a Season 2 Renewal

Peacock and Sky have given the thriller The Day of the Jackal an early season two renewal. Starring Eddie Redmayne as the titular character, the series hit the top spot on Peacock’s Top 10 TV Shows list over its first weekend. The 10-episode first season premiered on November 14, 2024 and will wrap up on December 19th.

In addition to Eddie Redmayne, season one stars Lashana Lynch, Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, and Chukwudi Iwuji. Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, and Sule Rimi also stars.

The Day of the Jackal episode 6 recap
Image
The Day of the Jackal is heating up after an extremely close call at the end of episode 5. We've come a long way since episode 1 when the Jackal had everything under control. The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) killed Norman Stoke (Richard Dormer) while he was being tortured and interrogated and escaped Bianca (Lashana Lynch) and MI6.

In The Day of the Jackal episode 6, the Jackal finds shelter in a barn, but when he wakes, he’s knocked unconscious by the owner of the property. He’s tied up when he wakes up. The owner, Attila, who doesn’t speak English tries to send him on his way, but then he finds the Jackal’s gun and he drags him into his home to speak to someone and translate what the Jackal is saying.

The Jackal offers to pay the man holding him to let him go, but the other men want their cut.

The Day of the Jackal is now streaming, is it worth the hype? (What critics are saying)
Image
The Day of the Jackal has premiered on Peacock, but is this new thriller worth watching?

The Day of the Jackal was first published in 1971 and was the breakout best-seller by Frederick Forsyth. A 1973 film adaptation followed, quite faithful to the novel, as a pack of French militants hire a mysterious assassin known only as The Jackal to kill French President Charles de Gaulle.

The new Peacock series updates the story with Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as the Jackal, hired to kill a tech billionaire. Lashana Lynch is the British agent tracking him across Europe. It takes a different tact than the original story with a focus on the Jackal's personal life, including  a wife unaware of his true actions.

The show just dropped its first five episodes on Peacock, with another five more coming, so what's the critical response to it?

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Review: Eddie Redmayne’s Puffed-Up Peacock Show Feels Like a Year of Your Life
Image
Complaining that you’ve seen this story before — specifically in regard to an adaptation of a book first published in 1971 that was already made into a movie in 1973 and again made into another movie in 1997 — is generally a waste of time. “The Day of the Jackal” is a piece of intellectual property. The only reason there’s a new iteration of Frederick Forsyth’s novel is because readers liked it back in the day, and then moviegoers liked seeing the story play out onscreen, and then moviegoers went to see it again 20 years later.

But hey, just because Roger Ebert ranked Fred Zinnemann’s “The Day of the Jackal” among his 10 best films of 1973 and then ranked “The Jackal” among his 10 worst films of 1997, that doesn’t mean the franchise is dead. If anything, it means most of the franchise’s maiden fans are dead — 1971 was a long time ago,...
