Ironically Titled Alligator Horror Movie Gets Surprisingly Positive Review From VFX Artists
Image
Bad CGI Gator intentionally pokes fun at films with poor digital effects, but still manages to technically work. The movie uses lighting and depth of field effectively, proving that it isn't amateurish in its badness. VFX artists appreciate the intentional choices made in the film, making it surprisingly enjoyable despite its shortcomings.

The ironically titled horror film Bad CGI Gator gets a surprisingly positive review from VFX artists. Directed by Danny Draven, the movie follows college students who inadvertently create a dangerous and predatory CG alligator while vacationing in Georgia's swampland. The cast includes Maddie Lane, Michael Bonini, Ben VanderMey, and Rebecca Stoughton. Released back in November, Bad CGI Gator was produced by Full Moon Features, the same company that made headlines for turning the phenomenon of "Barbenheimer" into an upcoming movie.

In Corridor Crew's latest video, VFX artists looked at Bad CGI Gator and gave positive feedback regarding the movie's antagonistic creature.

‘Bad CGI Gator’ Review
Image
Stars: Michael Bonini, Maddie Lane, Ben VanderMey, Rebecca Stoughton, Cooper Drippe, Sarah Buchanan | Written by Zalman Band | Directed by Danny Draven

Since The Asylum doesn’t have something to release at the moment, Full Moon Pictures has graciously stepped up and given us Bad CGI Gator. With a self-referential title designed to deflect criticism of its shortcomings, I really can’t say I was expecting much, and maybe because I had such low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised.

Somewhere in Georgia, a group of friends, Sam, Hope, Chad, Sarah, Pearce and Paisley are planning a Spring Break blowout.

Those plans include tossing their school laptops into the lake for a video they hope will go viral. Instead, it somehow transforms a tiny alligator into a huge, hungry beast. And it’s not just huge, it’s somehow been granted the powers of bad CGI such as the ability to move without touching the ground,...

After making the festival rounds for the better part of a year, the found footage / live-stream horror comedy #ChadGetstheAxe, a feature expansion of an award-winning short film with the same title, is now set to receive a digital and VOD release courtesy of The Horror Collective (the genre label of Entertainment Squad) on September 1st. Directed by Travis Bible, who wrote the screenplay with Kemerton Hargrove, #ChadGetstheAxe follows four social media influencers as they live-stream their trip to Devil’s Manor, former home to a Satanic Cult. Things don’t go well. And as the violence ramps up… So do the views.

‘#chadgetstheaxe’ – The Horror Collective Releasing Screenlife Horror-Comedy This Fall
Kemerton Hargrove
Entertainment Squad’s genre label, The Horror Collective, has acquired Travis Bible’s horror-comedy #chadgetstheaxe to be released via digital platforms this fall.

Adapted from an award-winning short with the same title, #chadgetstheaxe follows four social media influencers as they live stream their trip to Devil’s Manor, former home to a Satanic Cult. Things don’t go well. And as the violence ramps up… so do the views.

‘#chadgetstheaxe’ Review – Screenlife Horror-Comedy Is a Fun Skewering of Social Media Stardom
Image
Horror’s technological evolution into Screenlife nightmares like Spree or Deadstream continues with Travis Bible’s #chadgetstheaxe, the latest skewer-happy examination of dangerous social media obsessions. It’s becoming a more challenging subgenre that requires intense authenticity in performances and digital details, especially since actual YouTubers are starting to become parodies of themselves. Bible and co-writer Kemerton Hargrove key into Logan Paul or Shane Dawson-type online personalities and their willingness to — for example — monetize videos that feature actual dead bodies. The attraction of infinite adoration from fanbases is too much for some to ignore, and #chadgetstheaxe is a fun-filled, sneaky-creepy reminder that sometimes internet superstardom isn’t worth the likes or attention.

The film starts by centering on “#Spicy” Steve (Michael Bonini), a likable-enough vlogger who teams up with mega-popular prankster Chad Ryan (Spencer Harrison Levin) for the ultimate video. Steve wants to prove he’s not a coward...

Frightfest Glasgow 2023: ‘#chadgetstheaxe’ Review
Image
Stars: Michael Bonini, Spencer Harrison Levin, Taneisha Figueroa | Written by Travis Bible, Kemerton Hargrove | Directed by Travis Bible

Found footage is So hard to get right. For every Blair Witch Project we get a myriad of direct-to-dvd (or streaming) shaky-cam horrors that substitute actual filmmaking and crafting real scares for cheap camerawork and a multitude of jump scares. However, in recent years there have been some standouts… Death of a Vlogger, Host, and most recently Deadstream. And now comes #chadgetstheaxe.

The film sees social media influencers Spicy Steve and Chad team up with a pair of beauty tip streamers to visit the supposedly haunted Devil’s Manor, the former home to a Satanic Cult. Things don’t go well. Soon they’re forced to wonder if it’s all a prank created by other streamers, by each other, or if there is something more sinister at hand… And as the violence ramps up…...

#Chadgetstheaxe Review – Glasgow FrightFest 2023
Image
Do social media influencers have souls? The film industry really doesn’t seem to think so. So much so that this new generation of streamers, hell bent on pushing their “merch” and driving their “subs” no matter the cost, are almost too perfect as horror movie victims. Who doesn’t want to see Logan Paul pissing himself with fear, while getting chased by a man with a sack for a face?

In fact, it’s such a novel idea that the entire found footage sub-genre seems to have taken a screaming left turn over the past year, to focus on just that; “livestream” screen-life movies where a nasty piece of shit is hunted down by nefarious forces, and we’re all not only allowed, but actively encouraged to clap and cheer whilst they repeatedly soil themselves. Dashcam and Deadstream, 2022’s pioneers of this new movement, lead with a mix of nasty laughs and guffaw-inducing gnarliness,...
