Apple TV+'s Perfect Bridgerton Replacement Is Climbing Global Streaming Charts As Season 2 Ends
Image
Apple TV's perfect Bridgerton replacement is climbing the global streaming charts ahead of its season 2 finale. Based on Julia Quinn's romance novels, each season of Netflix's popular period drama follows a different member of the eponymous noble family as they find love in a historically alternative version of Regency-era London.

Bridgerton's cast includes names like Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, and Simone Ashley, many of whom have been catapulted to greater fame courtesy of the series. Since its debut in 2020, Bridgerton has consistently been one of Netflix's most-watched series, with seasons 1 and 3 both ranking among the streamer's top 10 most popular shows of all time worldwide.

As a result, there have been many shows similar to Bridgerton attempting to capitalize on its success, including Prime Video's My Lady Jane, which was controversially canceled after one season in August 2024. Now, another Bridgerton replacement is rising up the global streaming charts,...

The Buccaneers Actor’s Sneaky Role in ‘House of the Dragon’ Proves He’s Adept at Playing Vile Characters
Image
The Buccaneers’ star, Barney Fishwick, is on the run to establish himself as a master of modern villainy in the television landscape. His range of performances, from his role in the House of the Dragon to Apple TV+‘s The Buccaneers, proved that the young actor is adept at taking vile roles.

When asked about his abusive tone in The Buccaneers, in an interview with ScreenRant, Fishwick said that,

I think love for him is much more of an exchange or about duty. It’s like a formal thing rather than a feeling thing. So I think in his relationship with Jinny, it’s a sequence of expectations. You should do this, you should do that, you should do this because that is your role.

Though Barney Fishwick is not a known personality, the actor, with his nuanced acting skills, exudes an unsettling charm that brings the viewers to loathe...

‘The Buccaneers’ Star Immy Waterhouse Unpacks Surprise Episode 6 Death, Jinny’s Asylum Stay
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Buccaneers” Season 2, Episode 6.

Jinny St. George learned the hard way that Lord James Seadown has not changed as she might have wished after her time away in “The Buccaneers.”

After fleeing to Italy to hide out from her abusive husband and protect her son, Seadown (Barney Fishwick) found her and attempted to weasel his way back into her good graces. His coaxing could only go so far though, and when Jinny wouldn’t budge, he took what he knew she loved most — their son Freddie.

This is where Episode 6 of the Apple TV+ series took a grim turn. Immy Waterhouse, who plays the exiled Duchess’ sister and wife to Seadown, unpacked how she prepared for her character’s mammoth installment.

“The Buccaneers” actress told TheWrap that for the relationship to dissolve in the way it did it was important for her and Barney...

‘The Buccaneers’ Creators Unpack That “Heartbreaking” Death In Season 2 Episode 6: “We Resisted It For A Long Time”
Image
Spoiler Alert: This piece spoils Episode 6 of The Buccaneers Season 2.

As the tension between Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) and her estranged husband Lord James Seadown (Barney Fishwick) reaches its peak in the sixth episode of Season 2, things take a turn as not everyone survives the ongoing battle between the couple for custody of their son Freddie.

Seadown, a verbally and physically abusive man who first mistreated Lizzy Elmsworth (Aubri Ibrag) in Season 1, began to hit Jinny after they married, causing Jinny’s half sister Nan (Kristine Froseth) and their friends to band together, distract Seadown and send pregnant Jinny away in a carriage with Nan’s love Guy Thwarte (Matthew Broome) while Nan made the ultimate sacrifice to marry Theo (Guy Remmers), Duke of Tintagel in the Season 1 finale.

As of Episode 6 Lord Richard Marable (Josh Dylan) has become a casualty of the fray, dying by gunshot at the hands of his brother.

Robert De Niro at an event for A Single Man (2009)
Today, Netflix released character descriptions along with some additional casting for their upcoming limited series, Zero Day.

Zero Day asks the question on everyone’s mind -- how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?

And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?

As previously announced, Robert De Niro leads the cast as George Mullen, a massively popular but complicated former American President who is pulled from retirement to head a commission tasked with investigating a devastating global cyber-attack.

Angela Bassett, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, and McKinley Belcher III have been added to the cast, along with Gaby Hoffman, Clark Gregg, and Mark Ivan.

Bassett will play President Mitchell, a brilliant and perceptive political tactician with an allegiance to Mullen.

The Buccaneers Ending Explained: How It Updates Edith Wharton’s Story
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Buccaneers episode 8.

The Buccaneers on Apple TV+ is an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel of the same name. However, viewers who either read the novel or watched the 1995 PBS/BBC adaptation, will find that the last scenes of the finale “Wedding of the Season” are noticeably different from previous versions.

Although Nan (Kristine Frøseth) is not as much in love with her fiancee Theo, the Duke of Tintagel (Guy Remmers) as she is with Guy (Josh Dylan), she makes the choice of family duty over romantic love to protect Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) from the social consequences of separating from her abusive husband Lord James Seadown (Barney Fishwick).

Den of Geek interviewed series creator Katherine Jakeways and executive producer Beth Willis to find out why their vision of the conclusion of this story is distinct from other movie and television adaptations.

The Buccaneers Interview: Barney Fishwick & Josh Dylan On The Complicated Marable Family Backstory
Image
The Buccaneers ends with a dramatic wedding, but the focus is on character development and relationships rather than the plot. The show's strength lies in its modern soundtrack, scandalous undertones, and well-crafted character arcs. The male characters, like Richard and James, face their own challenges and vulnerabilities, adding depth to the story.

Season 1 of Apple TV+'s The Buccaneers, based on Edith Wharton's unfinished novel of the same name, ends December 13 with the wedding of the century. But whether or not the bride makes it down the aisle after the trials and tribulations of the last several episodes, Katherine Jakeways' adaptation will remain a standard for future period dramas to uphold. Set in the late 19th century, the show follows a group of American friends searching for British husbands and finding that more misery than happiness awaits them in their married lives.

The Buccaneers is perfect for Bridgerton fans...

The Buccaneers: Conchi and The Real Life Story of Consuelo Vanderbilt
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Buccaneers through episode 6.

While The Buccaneers on Apple TV+ is based on Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel of the same name, the show also depicts some of the real history from the 1870s as well. Wharton modeled the main characters after people she knew during her debutante days and other prominent figures of the era.

Episode 1 “American Poison” introduces Conchita “Conchi” Closson (Alisha Boe) as one of the heiresses representing the new class of business barons in the 1870s. Wharton in fact modeled her character after Consuelo Vanderbilt, the real-life wife of a tycoon.

Den of Geek spoke to series creator Katherine Jakeways, executive producer Beth Willis, and director and executive producer Susanna White to find out how they were inspired by Wharton’s novel and the real story of Consuelo Vanderbilt to bring Conchita to life on screen.
