Weeks after the surprising cancellation of FBI: International, one of the co-creators has revealed their feelings about CBS’s decision to end the series. Since the show ended on a cliffhanger, it was clear that no one was expecting the show not to make a comeback for a season 5.

Derek Haas told TVLine he was just as sad as the fans about the reason CBS decided not to continue the series, which followed FBI agents who went to various countries to solve crimes. He also praised the addition of Chicago P.D. actor Jesse Soffer as Wesley, who Haas called a “dynamic cast addition” to the series.

He said that he has plenty of respect for everyone at CBS involved in the show, as well as those with Dick Wolf Entertainment and said he “trust[ed] their instincs.” However, he had no reason why it was cancelled and did not think...

The second FBI spinoff series, FBI: International premiered on CBS in 2021 and garnered a mostly middling response from critics and audiences alike. The series' core cast consisted of Luke Keintank and Hieda Reed as FBI agents Scott Forrester and Jamie Kellett, both of whom left after Season 3, as well as Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Christiane Paul, Eva-Jane Willis, Christina Wolfe, and Jesse Lee Soffer.

In a recent interview with TVLine, co-creator Derek Haas opened up about the recent cancellation of his CBS crime drama “FBI: International.”

“I was so sad to hear about the cancellation because I loved Jesse Soffer as Wes on the show and really thought it was a dynamic cast addition in Season 4,” Haas said.

“I have no insight into why it was canceled,” he added. “I love [President of CBS Entertainment ] Amy [Reisenbach] and [EVP of current and daytime programming] Eric [Kim] over at CBS, plus all my good friends at Wolf [Entertainment], and trust their instincts. So they must’ve had reasons that had nothing to do with the quality of the show.”

CBS unveiled that both spinoffs of its original “FBI” series, “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted,” would be canceled after their fourth and sixth seasons, respectively. “International” launched a year after “Most Wanted” in 2021, and starred Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto and Christiane Paul.

Like FBI: International fans, series co-creator Derek Haas is understandably sad about the spinoff’s cancellation by CBS after four seasons.

Also like FBI: International fans, he is unsure about the why behind that decision.

Fans of the CBS show FBI: International are not happy with the way the show ended.

The series finale aired on Tuesday night (May 20) following four seasons and there was a cliffhanger at the end, despite the show being canceled months before the series finished production.

Fans are upset that they are left with questions following the conclusion of the series and they also don’t feel the finale was a satisfactory ending for the series.

Jesse Lee Soffer joined the show for the final season as Wesley “Wes” Mitchell and several fans on Twitter have voiced frustration with the finale feeling like the Wes show instead of bringing the Fly Team back together.

While the CBS cancellations were announced in early March, leaving behind mothership series FBI — now in its seventh installment and renewed through the 2026-27 broadcast season — the spinoffs had yet to wrap production and finish filming, meaning they had time to adjust scripts to rework material into series finales.

Though Most Wanted will end after Season 6 and International was canceled after four seasons, the FBI universe is slated to get a new offshoot with the tentatively titled CIA, featuring Lucifer alum Tom Ellis. That offshoot, written by Dick Wolf and Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, follows two unlikely partners: a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer (Ellis) and a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law.

It's a big shock for FBI fans as CBS announced that both FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted will be ending with their current seasons. That leaves just the main FBI show, but CBS is planning a new spinoff that connects the FBI and CIA.

While it's likely that the spinoff will have several new characters, it would be fun if the show could bring in some from International and Most Wanted. Both shows boast some popular characters and actors who would fit into this new spinoff well. A few may be too tied to their respective shows (it's hard to see Remy Scott working with the CIA), but others would be a fine addition.
