Kelly Kay? She can organize anything.

Kay has both a YouTube and TikTok presence, and between the two accounts, she has nearly 12 million followers tuning in to see her putting her house (and everything in it) in perfect, aesthetic order. Since starting her YouTube channel HoneyBobaBear in 2019, she’s documented everything from major room renovations to closet reorganizing to creating and maintaining things like hot chocolate and (of course) boba bars.

She’s not really sure why she digs organizing so much.

Robert Kyncl Sits Down With Caspar Lee To Address YouTuber Concerns About Monetization Changes, Burnout
In a new interview with popular YouTuber Caspar Lee, YouTube’s chief business officer Robert Kyncl addresses a host of concerns from creators, touching on topics including monetization challenges, Channel Memberships, and burnout.

Lee bluntly asks Kyncl why, back in February, YouTube took monetization away from small creators with fewer than 1,000 subscribers or fewer than 4,000 hours of annual watch time. He points out that, in contrast, big creators with more than 50,000 subscribers not only have AdSense monetization, but have recently been given other avenues through which to monetize their viewership (including those Channel Memberships and below-player merch shelves).

“Ninety-nine percent of all creators affected by that were making less than $100 per year,” Kyncl says, referring to February’s ‘demonetization day.’ He adds that YouTube chose those thresholds to demonetize due to complaints from YouTubers that smaller channels, primarily run by content farms, were reuploading creators' original videos and “effectively stealing their revenue.

H3h3productions Returns To YouTube After Three-Month Absence With Frank Chat About Burnout
Ethan and Hila Klein, the couple behind one of YouTube’s most popular commentary channels, h3h3productions, are back after a three-month-long break with a frank video about their struggles over the past year.

In the video, Ethan says the past year or so — during which they’ve faced revenue breakdown and a Dmca lawsuit they ultimately won after incurring massive legal fees — has been the hardest time of their lives. It all came to a head three months ago, when he realized he was “actually depressed,” and that his mental health had deteriorated to a point where, “I literally could not make any more videos. I just hit a wall where it had gotten so bad that it was basically either stop making videos, or disappear forever,” he says.

To prevent permanent burnout, he and Hila decided to take a long break from their channel. They are among...

Are YouTube’s Algorithms Fueling Creator Burnout?
Alisha Marie
Alisha Marie hit the breaking point once she realized she was lying to herself.

The 25-year-old YouTube star had been posting videos to her channel at least weekly for a solid eight years. This spring, after enduring months of misery, the lifestyle vlogger, with more than 7 million YouTube followers, finally had to admit she was burned out: exhausted, creatively stuck and unhappy but afraid of jumping off the wheel. Finally, Alisha told fans in a tearful video in May that she was putting her channel on hold to recuperate.

“I started falling out of love with YouTube,” she says now, “which broke my heart.”

The problem? According to Alisha, she started feeling more stress last fall after YouTube made changes over the past year about how it recommends videos to users. The platform’s algorithms increasingly reward channels that post more frequently, have higher engagement (such as through “likes” and...

Alisha Marie Returns From Two-Month Hiatus, Looks To Normalize Breaks For YouTube Stars
Back in May, YouTube star Alisha Marie announced her plan to take a brief break from her primary YouTube channel. At the time, the beauty, fashion, and lifestyle influencer, who recently celebrated her ten-year anniversary on YouTube, expressed her need to catch her breath and mitigate the sort of creative burnout that affects so many videomakers on the internet.

Now, Marie has returned to her primary channel with a renewed state of mind and a desire to share new types of content with her 7.6 million subscribers. "The past three weeks has really been me trying my hardest to plan for this comeback," she said in her latest video, "having photoshoots, planning intros, business side, girlboss. I want to show you guys how hard I work."

After Unlocking The Key To Longevity, Shane Dawson Is Helping Fellow YouTube OGs Do The Same
YouTube stardom burns bright, but it also burns out fast. Just a cursory glance at the YouTube Rewind video from 2012, for instance, shows that many of the platform’s biggest stars of yesteryear have seen their audiences dwindle and drift. More recently, a slew of different creators including The Dolan Twins, Alisha Marie, and Elle Mills have announced that they were temporarily stepping away from the YouTube grind due to creative exhaustion.

Which makes Shane Dawson’s tireless success in 2018 all the more extraordinary. After becoming one of YouTube’s first breakout stars upon launching his sketch comedy and music video channel all the way back in 2008, Dawson has remained relevant a decade later by relentlessly surfing the platform’s changing tides -- from fleeting trends like ‘challenge’ collab videos to the rise of a new class of Vine-bred vloggers typified by the high-octane Paul brothers.

And now, as something of a longevity guru,...

Just In Time For Summer, YouTube Star Alisha Marie Launches Her Own Pool Float
Some lifestyle YouTubers launch their own fashion lines or makeup kits, but Alisha Marie's latest extension of her brand is something a little more aquatic. Marie, who counts more than seven million subscribers on her personal YouTube channel, has teamed up with the luxury pool float designer Funboy to launch a float of her own.

Funboy, based in Venice Beach, offers extravagant floats shaped like llamas, rainbows, and jetskis, among others. Marie's partnership with the brand includes the launch of a limited edition float, which is shaped like an old-school convertible. The float retails for a whopping $128 but comes with tons of bells and whistles, including a queen bed-sized lounging area and a large space for snacks and drinks. And, if for reason you wish to accessorize your float even more, you can refer to one of Marie's videos from 2016, in which she showed her viewers how to make a Diy drinks caddie.
