Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown Review – Shell-Shredding Strategy Fun
Image
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown arrives from indie studio Strange Scaffold as a concise, grid-based tactics adventure. Set in a post-Splinter, post-Shredder New York City, the game casts each Turtle in a solo mission to thwart Karai’s Foot Clan resurgence. The six-hour campaign skips lengthy exposition, delivering its plot through brief text-box exchanges before and after each level.

At its heart, Tactical Takedown translates the punch-driven momentum of classics like Turtles in Time into a turn-based framework. Battles unfold on small, isometric boards that “mutate” as the ground disappears behind you, urging constant forward motion akin to an arcade brawler’s screen scroll.

Despite its tactical depth—think Xcom meets collectible miniatures—the game has the brisk pace and pick-up-and-play appeal of a Konami beat-’em-up. This marriage of board-game structure and high-octane flair defines the experience, making it both familiar to Tmnt veterans and inviting to newcomers.

Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day) review – foodie musical is an undercooked turkey
Juliette Armanet at an event for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Cannes film festival opening film

Dreadful songs add no flavour to dreary tale of a big-city gourmet returning to her home-cooked roots

The opening gala of Cannes can be such a gamble: a very exposed festival slot which few films need or want, and whose occupants so often turn out to be the squawking overfed turkeys of the big screen. Such a one, sadly, is this listless and supercilious musical – ostensibly on the theme of heartwarming home town values – which flatlines like a hedgehog run over by an 18-wheeler the moment the female lead opens her mouth to sing one of the film’s many terrible songs.

Cécile (played by French singer Juliette Armanet) is about to open a restaurant in the big city having recently won a top-rated TV cooking show, and she is dating her colleague Sofiane (Tewfik Jallab). But when she hears that her adorable, exasperating old...

35 Years Ago, An Unsuspecting Comic Book Movie Became A Box Office Sensation
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"One of my first calls was to Peter Chernin, who went on to run Fox for a long time. But Peter goes, 'Are you guys out of your minds?'" That's producer Kim Dawson recalling to The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 how things went in the early going when they were trying to secure funding for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in the late '80s. "Howard the Duck was just released. Nobody felt like a comic book could be converted into a live-action character."

Indeed, this was a very different time for comic book movies in Hollywood. Richard Donner's "Superman" had come and gone. That was viewed as more of a one-off. There was no reason to believe a movie about walking,...

Who Is The Last Ronin? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Story, Explained
Image
Even if you're not a big fan of the heroes in a half-shell, odds are, you're at least vaguely familiar with the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Though the superheroes had relatively humble origins in a black and white comic book published in 1984, it wasn't long before Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo, along with their rat father figure Master Splinter, became pop culture icons.

Co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Ninja Turtles gained true fame beginning with their legendary '80s animated series, before the 1990 live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie took things to new heights. Yet, back when it was still primarily the comics driving the characters forward, Eastman and Laird crafted a story that would eventually go on to become one of the most beloved stories in the history of this franchise, regardless of the medium. That story eventually made its way out into the world in...

Image
Warning! Spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Nation #1The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' designs are simple yet effective, with the four brothers wearing matching bandannas. In an unexpected turn, Raphael has decided to deviate from his classic appearance and undergo a civilian transformation. The strongest of the ninja turtles just received a stylish redesign after being separated from his brothers, and it's easily one of his coolest looks yet.

"Attack on Area 51" from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Nation #1 - written by Tom Waltz with art by Vincenzo Federici, Ronda Pattison, and Rus Wooton - follows Raphael as he appears to temporarily give up his ninja lifestyle in New York. On his travels, Raph finds himself working as a bouncer at a bar full of rough-around-the-edges regulars, marking a surprising shift to his usual status quo.

10 comic book moments that weren't on my 2024 bingo card
Image
There are certain things you can expect to happen in the world of comic books. For example, the heroes will fight each other. at some point The X-Men and Avengers are at it again in Jed MacKay’s Avengers and two X-Men teams are fighting in MacKay’s X-Men and Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men. There's also the fact that someone will lose their powers (it was a whole thing in DC Comics Absolute Power). How often does that happen in comics, right?

While those two things are easy guesses, there are som moments that genuinely surprise us. With that in mind, the ten moments on this list weren’t on anyone’s 2024 bingo card.

Tmnt Just Reunited the Four Turtles, But There's Something Very Wrong with Donatello
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4

After being split up in their latest relaunch, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesseries has finally brought the four brothers back together again. It’s not an entirely happy reunion, however, as something is severely wrong with Donatello.

Coming from the creative team of Jason Aaron, Chris Burnham, Brian Reber and Shawn Lee, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4 continues the trend of featuring one of the four brothers in a one-off story. The latest issue focuses on Donatello, and finds the tech-obsessed Turtle in pretty dire straits.

The issue finds a weary-looking Donnie still reeling from his recent trip through time, looking very weak and emaciated. Donnie winds up getting kidnapped by a group of humans running an underground fighting ring, where captured mutants are forced to fight against other humans willing to pay top dollar for the privilege.

Donnie’s Looking the...

The 10 Best Fights Across All 6 Live-Action Tmnt Movies
Image
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movies have plenty of limitations, but still manage to entertain with some exciting fight scenes. Across the many different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series and movies that have been created over the years, the two live-action movie series are rated relatively low. That being said, the in-person limitations of the films have still managed to come up with some brilliant battles featuring the turtles, their allies, and some bizarre and varied villains.

Between the vast number of incarnations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there have been two official live-action movie series, with the original 90s films using animatronic suits and the 2010s Michael Bay-produced films using photorealistic CGI animation to represent the turtles next to real actors. Both of these methods have their own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to fight scenes, though the latter is little more successful due to...

‘Balestra’ Movie Ending Explained And Recap: Did Joanne Kill Raph?
Image
Even after knowing it would be stupid, the first thing I did after finishing Balestra was googling if this was actually based on a true story. Of course, it couldn’t be, because if it were real, the whole world (including me) would have known about it by now. I never really imagined I would write this, but Canadian director Nicole Dorsey’s film is like this strange, bastard child of Challengers and Inception that comes off as a two and a half hour long Black Mirror episode. It also reminds you of Black Swan. This is no negative criticism, by the way. Because in an age where human attention span is an extremely fragile thing, this two and a half-hour-long film that doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page successfully manages to keep you at the edge of your seat from start to finish. Well, at least that’s what happened for me,...

Troppo Cast & Character Guide: Who Plays Who In The Australian Crime Drama
Image
The Australian crime drama, Troppo, features an ensemble cast of talented and recognizable Australian actors, all led by American movie star, Thomas Jane. Troppo follows Ted Conkaffey, a former American cop who moved to Australia to escape some demons of his past. Set in Queensland, Troppo sees Ted working as a private investigator alongside his partner, Amanda Pharrell (Nicole Chamoun), a talented detective who has a dark history of her own. Together, the pair solve crimes around Crimson Lake, often bumping up against the police stationed there.

Like many shows set in Australia, Troppo puts the continent's unique location to good use. "Troppo" is Australian slang for, "going troppo", meaning "going mad" due to the unrelenting heat in Australia (via ABC) and that term comes into play often in Troppo, with characters often behaving angrily, irritably, and out of character. Season 2 premiered on July 5, 2024, and finished on August 24, 2024. This second...

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cast on Growing the Brothers Up and Apart for TV
Image
When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem opened a year ago, it hit like a mutagen bomb. Despite our fab four characters of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael being around for decades—this year marks their 40th(!) anniversary—never before had anyone really thought about treating them like… teenagers.

In the dizzyingly animated film, the characters were played by real adolescents like Nicolas Cantu (Leo), Micah Abbey (Donnie), Shamon Brown Jr. (Mikey), and Brady Noon (Raph). None of whom were old enough to vote when first stepping into the recording booth—a place where they recorded entirely together and in a style apropos of writers and producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The creatives who long favored spontaneity, and in this case the filmmakers wanted to catch the giggling authenticity of youth.

But you can’t be a kid forever, even if you’re a pizza-loving turtle in a half-shell.

Image
“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon appeared at Comic-Con to preview the teen turtles’ latest adventure — this time a 12-episode series for Paramount+.

The quartet (who reprise their roles from the 2023 movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”) were joined onstage by executive producers and showrunners Chris Yost and Alan Wan (“Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the 2012 series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”), as well as Alanna Ubach, who joins the crew as the villainous Bishop.

“It’s an honor to not only be playing a female antagonist, but to be asked to be a part of something that is such a pop culture phenomenon and something that has had so much staying power for the past 40 years,” Ubach told the Comic-Con crowd, saying that she’d been looking to voice a villain because those are the characters that her son,...

A brand-new teaser trailer for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been revealed ahead of the cartoon's August 9th debut. And the new footage reveals that Metalhead—a beloved, mechanical "5th Turtle"—will be making his appearance.

Metalhead had earlier appearances in both the animated series from 2012 and the iconic '80s cartoon. The character made his comic book debut in the 2014 Idw Tmnt series, in issue 34, which takes place during the Monsters, Misfits, and Madmen narrative arc.

In the action figure community, in particular, Metalhead has been a fan favorite since its introduction back in the '80s.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' First Words Were the Perfect Choice
Image
The Turtles' first word was "Splinter," solidifying their bond with their father figure. Splinter's importance to the team is highlighted through this significant first word. The Turtles' initial word choice reflects their familial themes and sets the tone for their future adventures.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around for decades and, at this point, have cycled through multiple iterations of their team that have hit nearly every kind of tone and visual deviation imaginable for these iconic reptilian brothers. Always cracking some joke, catchphrase, or quip, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles very first word ended up being far more effectual and was the perfect representation of who they eventually became as NYCs Heroes in a Half Shell.

Originally portrayed as more gritty and violent characters than what fans are used to seeing today, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphaels origin has mostly stayed the same over the years, with...

Tmnt Swap Their Iconic Bandannas for Oni Masks in Absolutely Genius Fanart
Image
Tmnt's iconic bandannas are swapped for oni masks in a fresh fanart redesign by Lyle Cruse (@lyle_style). Lyle's unique artistic style highlights the individuality in Leo, Donnie, Mikey, & Raph, with his oni mask designs only adding to this idea. This visually stunning redesign makes a case for the Turtles to officially sport oni masks in a comic adaptation.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are reptilian heroes who protect their city to the best of their abilities by utilizing their signature weapons to ensure the criminals they face think twice about breaking the law. Almost always seen sporting colored bandannas to help highlight the differences between brothers as well as give them a cool visual design to work with, a piece of recently released fanart has given the Turtles a totally different look by swapping their iconic bandannas for oni masks, resulting in a redesign fans need to see!

Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer Reveals The Show's Main Villain
Image
The first full trailer for Paramount+'s 2D animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem spin-off series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is now online, and it brings us up to speed with the fun-loving Heroes in a Half-Shell following the events of the critically-acclaimed movie.

The teaser reveals that Leo, Mikey, Raph and Donnie will actually be flying solo at the start of the series, and we will likely follow them on individual adventures before they regroup to face off against a new villain who goes by the name of Bishop.

Based on the moniker, there's a good chance this is a new take on Earth Protection Force Agent John Bishop, who debuted in the 2003 animated series.

We still know very little about this show, but it is expected to be set between the events of Mutant Mayhem and the planned sequel, which means there's a decent...

Jeremy Renner in Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Guts
Jeremy Renner in Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 Episode 2 opened tensely, allowing us to see the emotions and turmoil a prison sentence takes on prisoners and their families.

Between the panning camera and the ominous music, we knew something was up. They sure seemed pretty interested in that bag of potato chips.

To see a dead convict on the ground didn't give much of a surprise.

More like another one bites the dust. This show sure seems to have a lot of people dying behind bars.

Mike sees the prisoner's death as what it is and tries to warn Bunny off making money moves.

But in a typical criminal move, Bunny doesn't give Af.

And Iris's behavior as she got pulled over is troubling, to say the least.
