Yoshiyuki Tomino has worked on many anime throughout the years, but he's best known for creating the Mobile Suit Gundamfranchise. At a recent academic lecture, the anime legend spoke about his creative process and what went into the venerable mecha brand.

Attending the 2024 Women's Education Lecture, Tomino answered questions about his personal development process. This included the themes he added to certain anime and the type of world he would like to live in. These narrative elements in question honed in on one series in particular, perhaps inspiring fans to revisit the controversial Gundam anime.

10 years ago, the creator of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise returned with what became a controversial new series. Now, that show's main mobile suit is being reproduced as part of Bandai's Metal Robot Spirits line as part of the anniversary occasion.

Gundam Reconguista in G was a very different kind of series set in the distant future of the Universal Century timeline, and the series' primary mecha was the G-Self. Revealed as part of the 10th anniversary of the 2014 anime, the G-Self figure from the Metal Robot Spirits is loaded with weapons and highly-detailed features, including a specialized "backpack." Although the figure won't be available until next year, it's perhaps the best take on the most notable aspect of Gundam Reconguista in G.
