Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender was released on February 22, 2024, and the live-action series ended up being a successful outing. Season 1 of the series adapted the first season of the original Atla Nicklodeoncartoon, titled Book One: Water. As expected with adaptations, the Netflix series made some changes to suit its own creative needs but was able to introduce some of the franchise's fan-favorite minor characters, including bounty hunter June, portrayed by Arden Cho (Teen Wolf). June's introduction was as terrifying as the cartoons as her shirshu sniffer mount, Nyla, equally made a debut. Now, Cho has revealed some uncertainty regarding a return in future seasons.
After the first season, the streamer renewed the series for a second and third season, as trust in the project seems set in stone. Despite minor characters making returns in the original Nicklodeon series, including June, Cho shared an uncertain update regarding her character's future on the show.

Netflix is moving full speed ahead with its live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not only have they wrapped on season 2, but they're already moving on season 3, as revealed in this cute little video:
The first season dropped in early 2024 and the second probably won't air until early 2026, or maybe late this year. But it's good to see that Netflix is getting a move on. Season 3 will mark the end of the show, so hopefully the wait between seasons 2 and 3 will be bearable. At a time when waits between seasons of big shows like this are getting longer and longer, it's good to see a studio be proactive.
The show is also staffing up. Season 2 will feature the returns of cast members Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Elizabeth Yu (Azula), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh), Daniel Dae Kim (Ozai), Momona Tamada (Ty Lee) and...

You're not going to believe this, but fans of a beloved original series are once again freaking out about changes made to an upcoming adaptation. No, I'm not talking about gamers and their complicated relationship with "The Last of Us" season 2 (although there's sure to be plenty where that came from in the weeks ahead). This time, the discourse de jour revolves around the second season of Netflix's live-action "Avatar: The Last Airbender" series and a somewhat unexpected new take on a fan-favorite character yet to be introduced: the Earthbender Toph.
Fans of the original Nickelodeon cartoon know that the Aang Gang wasn't complete until Book 2 of the series introduced Toph Beifong, the incredibly stubborn and initially off-putting hero voiced by actor Michaela Jill Murphy. Netflix will soon be closing the book on its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, as production is set to begin on the third and final season. Based on the timeless Nickelodeon animated series, The Last Airbender follows Aang, master of all four elements, who must unite his divided world after disappearing for 100 years and allowing the Fire Nation to wage war for control. Its top-tier animation, coupled with its thoughtful handling of mature themes like war, loss, and death — all while remaining accessible to younger audiences — has solidified its place as one of the most well-written and beloved animated series of the past two decades.
Following its success, Nickelodeon launched The Legend of Korra as a sequel, further expanding the Airbender universe. The original show laid the groundwork for what has become a sprawling franchise, with numerous new projects in development. The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to grow even further. While Netflix recently premiered a new adaptation, original creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko spearhead the franchise's expansion through films and spin-offs. Here is a closer look at the major projects announced or rumored to be in development.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show that has stood the test of time, as beloved today as it was when it aired on Nickelodeon back in the 2000s. The first season of Netflix's live-action remake wasn't received quite as warmly, but the cast and crew put on a good show, and it was fun seeing those classic episodes presented in a new way.
And it was good enough that Netflix renewed the show for two more seasons, which will allow executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani to tell the story in full; there are also three seasons of the original show. “We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” Boylan and Raisani told Tudum. “We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original,...

It's not often that a live-action adaptation of another piece of work is done right, but with the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, Netflix might have just struck the perfect balance between staying true to the beloved animated series and adding a fresh, cinematic touch.
After premiering its first season in February 2024, the adventure fantasy series was quickly renewed for two additional installments only a month later. However, fans may have to wait longer than expected to reunite with Aang, Katara, Sokka, and the rest of the beloved characters, as Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 has likely been delayed to next year. We've come to this conclusion after Netflix's 2025 lineup didn't include the highly anticipated second season.

Season 2 of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is introducing arguably the best character from the beloved Nickelodeon animated series to the live-action version. Toph Beifong will finally join Team Avatar in Season 2, played by Miya Cech (The Rim of the World). Toph was introduced in Season 2 of the original animated series, and quickly became one of Aang's closest friends, as well as his earthbending teacher. Season 1 of Netflix's live-action adaptation made some major deviations from the original series, but fans were hoping the show's iteration of Toph would remain faithful. According to Miya Cech, her version of Toph is a lot like the animated version, with a few exceptions.
During an interview with Pacific Rim Video Press at the 2024 Unforgettable Gala, Cech revealed what her version of Toph will be like in live-action. According to the actress, Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender will make some adjustments from the...

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Reveals What Fans Can Expect From Live-Action Toph Beifong
Some things about Toph in Avatar: The Last Airbender will be slightly different, while others will remain entirely the same.
During an interview with Pacific Rim Video Press at the 2024 Unforgettable Gala, Miya Cech talked about her upcoming role in Netflix's Avatar series and what fans can expect from the iconic blind Earthbender's live-action debut. "She's a little bit older so she's not, like, a little kid anymore," Cech acknowledged regarding the character's age, though she assured the interviewer that Toph Beifong's trademark sass would be kept fully intact. "She is still that same spitfire, kind of spunky and she gets to call a certain someone 'Twinkle Toes' quite a bit" she continued, later adding, "I think there are going to be a lot of things that the fans are going to remember from the animated series and a lot of things that they're going to be excited...

Toph will not be quite the same character in Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation. With Avatar season 2 in development, the show is preparing to introduce a variety of new characters to its roster. That includes Kelemete Misipeka as the Boulder, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, and Miya Cech as Toph. They will take up their roles alongside returning cast members Gordon Cormier (Aang), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), and other stars. The release date has not yet been announced.
While Toph's casting generated excitement, Miya Cech is looking to temper some expectations. In footage provided by the Editor-in-Chief of Knight Edge Media, Caleb Williams on Twitter, Cech spoke about major changes to Toph's character. Cech says that Toph will be a much older character. 2024 is basically over at this point, so we've already started looking to 2025. It's going to be a big year for Netflix with so many highly anticipated releases, such as Stranger Things season 5, Wednesday season 2, The Night Agent season 2, Cobra Kai season 6 part 3, You season 5 and much more.
However, some beloved Netflix shows won't be returning in the new year for various reasons. We're talking about shows like Bridgerton, Outer Banks, 3 Body Problem etc. Then, there are some Netflix series that could come back with new seasons in 2025, but we're not totally sure. Obviously, we would want to see these shows as soon as possible, but it all depends on how long the filmmaking process takes and Netflix.
If the cast and crew can't finish the filmmaking process in time for a show to make a 2025 release, then we won't see it until the next year or possibly even later,...

Sokka is one of the best and most beloved characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender. His signature comedy and singular determination help him stand out as a Non-Bender - even among his Bender friends and enemies. Therefore, it is devastating to learn in The Legend of Korra that not only did Aang die, but Sokka had passed as well.
Sokka is a staple character who helps the others get perspective. He is also one of the most imaginative and is known for thinking outside the box. Having both Sokka and Aang die and leaving Katara behind seems like a poor choice on the writers part. Not only did Katara lose her husband, but her brother as well. Not seeing Sokka as an old man, and not knowing how he died feels like a disservice to fans who loved him so much.

The cast of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 will feature familiar faces from its predecessor, combined with some new performers and characters. By the time of The Last Airbender season 1's ending, Aang had pushed back the Fire Nation attack on the Northern Water Tribe and was planning to set off for the Earth Kingdom to find an Earthbending teacher. This would come as he honed his Airbending and Waterbending, harnessing the powers granted to him as one of The Last Airbender's many Avatars, the masters of all four elements.
This ending set up the story perfectly for The Last Airbender season 2, with Netflix confirming two more installments of the show to coincide with the three seasons of Nickelodeon's original animated series. Where there is a new season, there will also be new stories, locations, action set pieces, and characters, with the latter element bringing new cast members too.

Where there is a new season, there will also be new stories, locations, action set pieces, and characters, with the latter element bringing new cast members too.

Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is back in production for Season 2, with the streamer revealing that Miya Cech has been cast as the fan-favorite character Toph.
In a clip released as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week fan event, Toph’s feet are seen in closeup before she stomps down and demonstrates her earthbending.
The 17-year-old Cech is likely best known to audiences as the younger version of Ali Wong’s character in the Netflix romantic comedy “Always Be My Maybe,” released in 2019. Funnily enough, she also played a younger version of Ali Wong’s character in an episode of the Netflix series “Beef.” She also starred in Nickelodeon’s short-lived series “The Astronauts” and had a supporting role in last year’s coming-of-age comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”
Toph was first introduced in Book 2 of the original “Last Airbender” animated series.
