Morgan Freeman's 24-Year-Old Alex Cross Thriller Hits Paramount+ Next Month
Image
Morgan Freeman's 2001 Alex Cross thriller will have a new streaming home next month. Along Came a Spider arrives on Paramount+ on Feb. 1.

A sequel to 1997's Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider saw Freeman reprise his role as detective Alex Cross alongside Jay O. Sanders as FBI agent Kyle Craig. The film was adapted from James Patterson's 1993 novel of the same name but changed key plot points. In the movie, forensic psychologist and author Alex Cross's retirement from the police force is short-lived when the daughter of a U.S. senator is kidnapped from her private school. As Cross digs deeper into the girl's disappearance, he learns there are many more layers to the kidnapping than he once thought.

Cross Season 1 Subtly Sets Up The Books' Biggest Villain & Already Made The Twist Reveal So Much Worse
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Cross season 1 and James Patterson's Alex Cross books.Through one scene, Cross season 1 has surprisingly set up a major book villain, which has made the original twist reveal a lot worse. Created by Ben Watkins, Amazon Prime Video's Cross is based on James Patterson's Alex Cross book series. Although the show accurately adopts many narrative threads and character beats from the original books, it does not strictly follow any stories from the source material. Instead, in its first installment, it follows a completely original narrative and attempts to expand the books' lore instead of recreating it.

Owing to this, even though it features many familiar characters from James Patterson's novels, it also adds many new ones to the mix or significantly changes how the books approach some character arcs. For instance, while John Sampson avenges Alex Cross' wife's death in the books, he...

'Cross' Star on Whether Kayla Craig Becomes a Villain in Season 2
Image
Prime Videos new detective series, Cross, has gotten a lot of buzz, enough that it already had a Season 2 guaranteed long before it premiered. Fans of the James Patterson books that Alex Cross originates from may already have some clues about what to expect in the future season, especially about a major antagonist. The character of sharp FBI agent Kayla Craig is awfully similar to the name Kyle Craig in Pattersons books. The latter, once a friend of Cross, eventually becomes a major villain to defeat. Do we see the writing on the creative wall here?

In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Alona Tal, who plays Craig in the series, was quick to note: This is the fun part. Since this is a new world, any resemblance [of the two characters] is just fuel for the speculation, and that keeps you at the edge of your seat. In every good character, there has to...

8 Biggest Changes Cross Season 1 Makes To James Patterson's Alex Cross Books
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Cross season 1.

Despite borrowing many narrative beats from James Patterson's Alex Cross books, Amazon's Cross significantly drifts away from its source material in more ways than one. From its early moments, Amazon's Cross draws subtle references to its source material. For instance, it features a scene in which the central killer recalls how Alex Cross worked on the Gary Soneji case, which turns out to be a direct callback to the first novel, Along Came A Spider, in James Patterson's Alex Cross series.

As the show progresses, it becomes evident that it reinstates many characters from the source material's lore, albeit in slightly different roles. However, despite introducing many elements from the books into its storyline, the Amazon show does not shy away from having its own original elements. Unlike most adaptations, Cross intentionally avoids being too similar to the original books and...

Cross Season 1 Mid-Credits Scene & How It Sets Up The Future Explained By Creator
Image
Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Cross season 1!

With the latest incarnation of James Patterson's iconic hero finally airing, creator Ben Watkins is sharing some insight into Cross season 1's post-credits scene. The third adaptation of the character takes an original approach to its source material by making its own story, in which Aldis Hodge's Alex Cross races to put a stop to a local serial killer dubbed the Fanboy Killer, who is being helped by former cop Bobby Trey. The Cross season 1 mid-credits scene shows Alona Tal's Kayla Craig meeting with Bobby to propose a deal to take the fall for the Fanboy Killer murders in exchange for full immunity.

In honor of the show's premiere, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Ben Watkins to discuss Cross season 1, particularly its mid-credits scene. The creator began by explaining that he had two major goals for the scene, and its impact on the show's future,...

Will there be a Cross season 2?
Image
If there’s one thing we needed, it was a convincing Alex Cross. Well, we got him in the form of Aldis Hodge in Cross, the Prime Video series.

The eight episode first season is now available to stream on Prime Video in full. Yes, this is a binge-watch, and you want to watch it without any spoilers.

There is a lot that remains faithful to the books, including the inclusion of Alex’s best friend, John Sampson. This character was missing from the movies, and showrunner Ben Watkins made it clear it was important to include him. After all, there are layers that come with this character.

Many will question Alona Tal’s Kayla Craig, whose name is similar to Kyle Craig. Is this just a gender swap of this character, or is it someone else entirely? That’s something we definitely need a second season to find out.

Cross TV Show Character's Potential Connection To Major Book Villain Carefully Addressed By Star
Image
Even as the show looks to be taking its own approach to adapting its source material, Alona Tal is careful to share whether her Cross character is connected to the books' major villain. The Prime Video show serves as the fourth major adaptation of James Patterson's thriller novel franchise centering on the titular Washington D.C. detective amid his various investigations. Aldis Hodge is leading the ensemble Cross cast in the eponymous role alongside a few iconic book characters, including Isaiah Mustafa's Detective John Sampson.

In honor of the show's New York Comic Con panel, Screen Rant interviewed Alona Tal to discuss Cross. When asked about her character's potential connection to the books' big villain, Kyle Craig, the star was very careful in her response, instead sharing how she would be a close ally to the titular protagonist in the opening season, while also teasing that future seasons...
