Nino Augustine Fuses Amapiano With His Panamanian Roots on ‘Encendío’
Image
Nino Augustine is carving out his own lane and pioneering new fusions, singing Amapiano tracks in Spanish. On Friday, he delivered his latest Latin-South African fusion with “Encendío,” a dancefloor-ready single with Walshy Fire of Major Lazer.

“I deeply admire the musical movements in Africa and draw heavy influence from them [and] my Panamanian roots imbue the track with a distinct Latin flavor,” Augustine tells Rolling Stone about the Jahboy-produced track. “Having grown up in Atlanta, the southern musical vibe also resonates in my work. Musically, I’m always striving to push boundaries,...

Davido Joins Konshens on Slippery Single ‘Boom Bang’
Image
The parade of collaborations between Jamaican dancehall acts and Nigerian afrobeats singers continues with “Boom Bang,” a sugary single from Konshens and Davido. The sticky core of this track is a sing-song jumble — “boom bum ba-dum bum bum ba-da-bum” — that descends in conjunction with a pinging bass line.

In recent years, these cross-Atlantic team-ups have become increasingly common: Try Vybz Kartel and Wizkid, Popcaan and Davido, Devin Di Dakta and Niniola, Kranium and Wizkid, Konshens and DJ Neptune and Joeboy, Konshens and Afro B, Popcaan and Runtown, and the Haitian artist Michael Brun and Mr.

Major Lazer, Skip Marley Pray to a New High Priest in ‘Can’t Take It From Me’ Video
Major Lazer
Major Lazer debuted a new video for “Can’t Take It From Me” on Wednesday, featuring Skip Marley. The clip shows Marley and a crowd of worshippers paying their respects to the Major Lazer figure, or “the High Priest of Lazerism,” as a stone idol.

“The visuals were inspired by my garden in Walthamstow and the stories hidden in the paintings of Alberto del Poz,” said Irrum, the video’s director, in a statement. “I teamed up with the art poet Luis Luino for the production design, and it was...

Walshy Fire Is Known for Dancehall. On ‘Abeng,’ He Turns Toward Afrobeats
Five years ago, Walshy Fire, the Jamaican producer known for the global-club-mishmashes he makes with the group Major Lazer, funded his own solo tour of Africa. In Kenya at one point, “the driver had fallen asleep and nobody could find him,” Walshy Fire recalls. “When they finally saw him, the first thing they said was, ‘you’re kimbo.’ I know that word in Jamaica to mean lazy — you’re asleep and spread out. It means the exact same thing in Kenya.”

“Those similarities made me begin to really think of...

Skip Marley, Major Lazer join forces
American electronic dance music group Major Lazer and singer Skip Marley, grandson of legendary Jamaican singer Bob Marley, have teamed up for "Can't take it from me".

While the audio of the song came out on Friday, the video is yet to be unveiled. Diplo and Walshy Fire will be seen in a very different avatar in the video.

At Major Lazer's helm is global superstar Diplo, who had performed in India in the past. According to a source, Diplo created the song keeping in mind his Indian audiences. His team and he have said this is the summer anthem for the world.

"We are really excited for the song after the love we have received from India," Diplo, who had worked on the song "Phurrr" for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's movie "Jab Harry Met Sejal", said in a statement.

Major Lazer has made much dance to...

Hear Diplo’s New Trap-Pop Song ‘New Shapes’ From ‘Europa’ Ep
Diplo
It’s been nearly a year since Diplo released his last Ep, California, but that’s not to say the super-producer hasn’t kept himself busy. He started co-hosting the SiriusXM radio show “Diplo’s Revolution” with fellow DJ Dillon Francis and Major Lazer bandmates Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. He also toured Africa (with Major Lazer), collaborating with local musicians along the way for a mixtape that incorporated Afropop and dance music.

Now, Diplo is paying homage to a different part of the world. His forthcoming Ep, Europa, will feature...

Major Lazer Goes to Africa
Years ago, some kids on Twitter said, ‘When are you gonna come to Uganda?’ and I said, ‘Man, I don’t know if I’ll ever make it there,’ ” recalls Diplo. This fall, Major Lazer — the hitmaking Edm trio of Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire — played there for the second time, performing for a huge crowd in Kampala, the capital city, as part of a weeklong African tour. They marked the occasion with a special 30-minute Afrobeats mix on streaming services, full of hot new sounds from Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Africa and more.

Hear Major Lazer, Tove Lo’s New Afropop Anthem ‘Blow That Smoke’
Major Lazer
Major Lazer haven’t put out an album in more than three years, but the band has kept busy. Recently, they’ve gone deep into African music. Diplo and Co. toured Africa – playing Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and more – and collaborated with several African artists for a mixtape last month.

They’ve now released a new single with Afropop roots: “Blow That Smoke,” feat. Scandanavian singer Tove Lo, a bouncey stomper with a West African guitar riff and heavy groove. “This song has been long in the making,” Tove Lo said in a statement.

‘Give Me Future’ Film Review: Major Lazer Rocks Havana
Give Me Future (2017)
It’s no less true for being a cliché: art has the power to bring people together. And that power is at the center of the joyous “Give Me Future,” a film about electronic-dance wizards Major Lazer bringing their act to Havana, Cuba. What results is that rarest of creations: the feel-good documentary. In following the Edm combo — Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire — to Cuba, director Austin Peters (“Haim Forever”) goes beyond the usual concert movie beats. Major Lazer’s 2016 live performance in downtown Havana is electrifying, to be sure. But “Give Me Future” — which premiered at the...
