Lights, Camera, Jersey: Filming for Bruce Springsteen Biopic Underway Down the Shore
Image
Bruce Springsteen wrapped up a productive 2024 on location in New Jersey, which has included spending time on the set of the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere.

The 20th Century Studios film, about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, stars Jeremy Allen White of The Bear and began filming scenes in November. The production is scheduled for more Jersey location shoots in January, including concert scenes in East Rutherford, on its way to a 2025 release date.

Much of the filming so far has taken place in Asbury Park, with scenes involving Frank’s Deli and Restaurant on Main St., the Stone Pony, the Convention Hall, the Carousel House, and, of course, the beach. The movie has transformed Asbury Park into a 1980s version of itself, with period-appropriate cars parked on Main St. Inside the Carousel House, the production recreated the old merry-go-round, as well as the rides that were iconic on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

Late Night Hosts React To Rfk Jr.’s Hhs Appointment With Brain Worm Jokes, Kimmel Reveals Hannibal Lecter As Trump’s First Choice
Image
Still stunned by Donald Trump’s nominations Wednesday of Matt Gaetz for Attorney General and Fox & Friends host Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary, late night comedians had a new shock Trump appointment to dissect Thursday, that of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Stephen Colbert broke the news to some of his audience as the announcement had just been made moments before the Late Show taping.

“Donald Trump continued his exhaustive search for the most qualified people within his line of sight, and he has chosen anti-vaxx nepo maniac Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. I know that sounds insane but we should all keep an open mind because that’s how the worm gets in.”

Jimmy Kimmel had a similar reaction.

“Who better to be in charge of health and humans than a guy whose brain was partially devoured by a worm?,” he said.

Colbert and...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – The Test of Time
Image
When we talk about movies being hard to categorize or even succinctly summarize, this movie is the poster child for that statement. Almost 50 years on and that still holds true but how about is it good? Does a movie need to be put in a specific area or even be able to be explained to still be good? The Rocky Horror Picture Show is in a category all by itself and yet has had spinoffs of sorts and on-stage revivals since its inception and shows no signs of slowing down. I’m not even sure how the introduction to such a movie should be fleshed out so take a jump to the left, a step to the right, put your hands on your hips and bring your knees in tight. We are about to take a time warp and see if The Rocky Horror Picture Show still stands the Test of Time.

Born Evil Is Michael Bay's Twisted Take on True Crime Television
Image
Big-budget action director Michael Bay recently dipped his toe in the true crime genre with Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior, a new Max series that debuted on September 2, 2024. Yet, while best known for orchestrating spectacle-driven blockbuster fare in popular movies like The Transformers, Bay has curiously translated his over-the-top brand of cinema to the small screen, giving viewers a much different look at convicted criminals than before through a host of creative bells and whistles.

Rather than adhering to the traditional talking head interview formula most true-crime series adopt, Bay has injected Born Evil with stylish filmmaking techniques that mirror his ostentatious big-scale cinema. The show features dramatic re-enactments with flashy audiovisual flourishes that attempt to put viewers into the hearts and minds of its sinister subjects. The results don't always work, but Bay offers a twisted take on the true-crime TV genre that remains true to his brand.

The Title Track to Pharrell Williams’ Lego Biopic ‘Piece by Piece’ Is a Banger — Listen Here
Image
You may not recall that “Happy” by Pharrell Williams was first released for the “Despicable Me 2” (2013) soundtrack. What you absolutely cannot forget is its hook — not even if you wanted to. Williams’ newest single was also released for an animated film, though this association will be much easier to remember — they’re both titled “Piece by Piece.”

Like “Happy,” the “Piece by Piece” single is a banger. It has an infectious, classic Pharrell/Neptunes beat, and the lyrics actually make the film’s unique storytelling device — a Pharrell Williams biopic told in Lego form — seem like the perfect creative choice.

“Piece by Piece” the song is not quite as good or earworm-y as “Happy” — that may be a good thing in the end. “Happy,” which was later re-released in 2014 as the first single from Williams’ full studio album “Girl,” was wildly overplayed. When that happens — even with a great...

Chris Farley’s ‘Wayne's World’ Scene Was Altered to Mock a Studio Note
Image
Wayne’s World is full of memorable cameos, from Alice Cooper, to Meatloaf, to the T-1000. But perhaps the best of the bunch is Chris Farley as the security guard who randomly provides a conspicuous chunk of exposition outlining where and when famed music producer Frankie “Mr. Big” Sharp will be in the near future.

This info, predictably, comes in very handy when Wayne and Garth later climatically hack into Mr. Big’s TV, which convinces him to sign Cassandra’s band — in the “mega happy ending” at least.

The film’s screenwriters, and Saturday Night Live veterans, Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner recently appeared on the Fly on the Wall podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade. While chatting about Wayne’s World, the husband and wife team revealed that the funniest joke in the whole scene was essentially a derisive response to a lame studio note.

According to Terry Turner,...

Happy Awards Season 2021! The biggest night in the film industry, the Academy Awards, is not too far off at this point, with preliminary voting already underway, and the official nominations being announced in just one week. The recent Golden Globes (even with all their internal misfires) gave us a general indication of what kinds of films we should expect to be recognized, with the likes of 'Nomadland', 'Judas and the Black Messiah', 'The Trial of the Chicago 7', 'Minari', and 'Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom' appearing to be early favorites for the major awards. However, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts...

Shout! Factory: Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny Review
Image
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released from Shout! Factory on February 13th, 2024.

Jack Black is among my favorite comedic leading men. The first film I ever reviewed was School of Rock for my high school newspaper. His physical delivery is unmatched, and he’s able to make nearly every character, no matter how absurd, feel relatable and approachable. Despite my adoration for the man, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny had evaded me for eighteen long years. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Shout! Factory, that’s all changed.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny Critique Jack Black in ‘Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny’ Also Read: Shout! Factory: Shaw Brothers Classics Vol. 4 Review

I was twenty-years-old when Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released to theaters. That’s seemingly the perfect age for an R-rated comedy comprised of utter silliness and rock-and-roll.

‘Onyx the Fortuitous’ Would Do Anything for Love (But He Won’t Do That) in New Clip That Pays Tribute to Meatloaf
Image
This Halloween season, Bloody Disgusting and Screambox are bringing Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls to theaters, a gateway horror film that wears its ’80s/’90s influences on its sleeves. Those influences extend to music, and we’ve got a treat for you this afternoon with a brand new clip channeling Meatloaf’s hit song “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)”… in the form of a hilarious dream sequence from the film.

Based on writer, director, and star Andrew Bowser’s viral internet character of the same name, Onyx tells the story of an amateur occultist who learns that sometimes, when you raise Hell…you get a little burned.

In the new clip, Onyx (Bowser) finds himself grappling with what he’d do for love as he recreates Meatloaf’s famous music video and finds temptation in the form of a “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” character.

I Took My Kids to See ‘Paw Patrol 2,’ and the World Just Doesn’t Have Enough Twizzlers
Image
My three-year-old has a conundrum. She loves “Paw Patrol,” but the franchise’s first feature film (2021) opens on a baby turtle in distress. The little guy ends up Ok, of course (this is an animated children’s movie after all), but it caused enough trauma to effectively ban screenings in our house. That would be perfectly fine with me, except for the fact that “Paw Patrol: The Movie” is significantly more tolerable than “Paw Patrol” the series

Our trip to see “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” was always going to be a gamble. Averse to risk, my wife and I bought insurance in the form of popcorn, Reese’s Pieces, and Twizzlers. And it worked — until it didn’t.

The theater was predictably packed for the 4:15 p.m. showing on its opening Saturday; “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” would win the weekend by what IndieWire box-office reporter Tom Brueggemann called a “healthy” margin.

Love, School, and Sex Combine in the "Sex Education" Season 4 Trailer
Image
The trailer for the final season of "Sex Education" is here. Netflix released the full trailer on Sept. 12, and soundtracked the new footage with Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." In the trailer, the Moordale gang tries to settle into their new school, all while grappling with love, relationships, and sex toys. Netflix confirmed the hit series would be ending after season four back in July, when they released the season's teaser trailer. Netflix then released first-look photos on Aug. 2, teasing the ensemble cast's return to their high school dramedy.

Creator Laurie Nunn told Netflix's Tudum she wasn't certain that season four would be the last when she and the writers began crafting it, but "during that process, it just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about it.

Sex Education season 4 trailer will do anything for love
Image
It’s coming. It’s coming. It’s about to climax. The fourth and final season of the hit Netflix raunchy comedy Sex Education is set to premiere later this month. And as part of the foreplay, Netflix has released a new trailer for the British show that stars Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey and Gillian Anderson. Set to the tune of Meatloaf’s popular (and meme-able) hit “I Would Do Anything For Love,” the season 4 trailer is light on plot elements and heavy on emotion. The series celebrates its curtain call by cheekily telling fans to “break out the tissues.”

The trailer has been released by Netflix and the official season 4 synopsis reads,

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again.
