Rowan Blanchard Joins ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Sequel ‘The Testaments’ As Series Regular

Exclusive: Rowan Blanchard has joined the series regular cast of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series The Testaments, sources confirm to Deadline. She joins the previously announced leads, Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday and Ann Dowd, who returns as her original character, Aunt Lydia.

Blanchard stars as Shunammite, a pampered teen from a prominent Gilead family whose status affords her a certain level of respect and power amongst her peers.

The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments are based on the novel by Margaret Atwood. Like the mothership series, the sequel is created by Bruce Miller, who serves as showrunner and executive producer.

The Testaments takes place in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead more than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. The series is a coming-of-age story that finds a new generation of young women in Gilead, grappling with the bleak future that awaits them.

Pamela Anderson Joins Ellen Burstyn and Taika Waititi in Place To Be Following Comeback Role

Pamela Anderson is joining the cast of Kornél Mundruczó’s upcoming drama movie, Place to Be. The film is currently shooting in Sydney, Australia.

Deadline reports that Anderson has joined the project, with other cast members including Ellen Burstyn and What We Do In The Shadows star Taika Waititi. Place to Be tells the story of "no-nonsense" Brooke (Burstyn) and "discombobulated divorcee" Nelson (Waititi) as they travel from Chicago to New York to bring a lost racing pigeon home. Anderon's role is Molly, Brooke's daughter, who is finding herself after the end of her second marriage. "Anxious about re-homing her elderly mother, she is resistant to any plan to move her to a retirement facility," the character description reads.

Ellen Burstyn and Taika Waititi have been cast in Place to Be, a feature drama directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by his longtime collaborator Kata Wéber. The film follows an elderly woman and a middle-aged man as they travel from Chicago to New York to return a lost racing pigeon. Production is underway at Disney Studios Australia in Sydney.

Burstyn, at 92, has arrived in Sydney for filming, marking a return to Australia after her stage debut in 33 Variations in 2019. After being delayed for months due to the writers and actors strikes, the 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards finally took place on the first weekend of 2024, with ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday evening. Scroll down for the results in all 98 categories.

On January 6, 49 awards were given out for the best achievements in various aspects of comedy, drama and limited series and telefilms. Another 49 awards were handed out on January 7 for nonfiction,reality, and variety fare. The final 25 awards will be doled out on January 15 during the primetime ceremony on Fox.

‘Succession,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘Last of Us’ Lead TV Critics Awards Nominations

HBO’s Succession and The Last of Us as well as FX/Hulu comedy The Bear lead all nominations for the 39th annual Television Critics Association’s awards.

The nominations, voted on by the more than 200 members of the Television Critics Association, also saw HBO and its streaming counterpart, Max, lead all platforms with a combined 20 nods including five each for Succession and Last of Us and two apiece for Barry, The Other Two and The White Lotus.

FX — which produces The Bear (five) followed in second place with 10, while Disney+ (Andor) and Peacock (Poker Face) tied for third with nine apiece.

The coveted program of the year race featured last year’s winner, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, joined by Andor, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Poker Face, Succession, The Bear, The Last of Us, The Other Two and The White Lotus.

Skull Island trailer: Monsterverse animated series reaches Netflix this month

On June 22nd, Legendary Entertainment and the Netflix streaming service will be bringing us “a new epic chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise” in the form of a Kong animated series called Skull Island. Two weeks out from the show’s premiere, a full trailer has been released online and can be seen in the embed above.

Brian Duffield, writer of the genre films The Babysitter, Spontaneous, Underwater, and Love and Monsters, is a writer and executive producer on Skull Island. The animated series will center on a group of explorers that find themselves on a collision course with strange beasts, terrifying Titans and the most mysterious island the world has ever known!

We had previously heard that the leads of the show are shipwrecked characters who are desperate to survive the most dangerous place on Earth, the island that is home to colossal monsters, including the iconic “megaprimatus” Kong.

Judge Reinhold (Detective Billy Rosewood), John Ashton (Sgt. Taggart), Paul Reiser (Jeffrey), and Bronson Pinchot (Serge) will reunite with Eddie Murphy for the upcoming film, Netflix announced on Wednesday. While the plot remains more hidden than why they closed the log flume at Wonderworld, the idea of so many franchise alums returning is fantastic news. Exclusive: Shout! Studios has acquired all North American distribution rights to the neo-Western thriller Head Count, from Continuance Pictures and Method Media. Filmmakers Jacob and Ben Burghart — together known as The Burghart Brothers — are directing in their feature debut, from their script written with Josh Doke, with Aaron Jakubenko (Tidelands), Melanie Zanetti (Raven’s Hollow) and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) set to star. Shout! Studios and the filmmakers are planning a strategic launch of the movie next year, beginning with major film festivals and film markets in 2023.
