Alien: Earth's first two episodes are about to drop, and Noah Hawley and lead star Sydney Chandler have just revealed the major inspiration behind the show's lead character. Created by the Fargo vet, it marks the first TV show in the Alien franchise, being set two years prior to Ridley Scott's original movie.
The series will focus on a disparate group of soldiers investigating the crash of a spacecraft on Earth, which was housing a series of extraterrestrial species. Among Alien: Earth's cast is Chandler as Wendy, the universe's first hybrid, in which she is a human who has her consciousness transferred into a synthetic body.
During an interview with TVLine, both Chandler and Hawley discussed the creation of Wendy in Alien: Earth. The duo revealed that the show's protagonist is actually very much a mix of the franchise's two most iconic characters, Sigourney Weaver's Ripley and Aliens' Newt,...

It has become a common feat for miniseries to be released, telling stories which are slightly too large for a feature film and too short for a full blown multi-season series. Over the past decade or so, a number of these shows which one could arguably call masterpieces, have premiered. One of them is HBO's crime series, Mare of Easttown. The miniseries premiered in April 2021 to critical reception holding an impressive critic score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is not surprising that there has been somewhat of a clamor for a second season since then. However, one of the stars of the show, that served arguably as a replacement for True Detective, has offered a disappointing update regarding a potential second season.

It is not often that I openly go around asking for different adaptations for my favorite video games, since it can go just as south as it can be a hit. But the tables have turned with Elden Ring Nightreign, with this one content creator showcasing what an animated show for FromSoftware’s latest title would look like.
Posted by LevelUpLifting on YouTube, a gaming content creator who makes montages of his gameplay experiences, a clip of his recent Elden Ring Nightreign video is going viral on social forums, thanks to it displaying the potential of the game as an animated series.
This fan-animated version of the game, which takes inspiration from Solo Leveling, shows just 10% of what the studio can achieve if it decides to collaborate with a big-time production house. And now I can finally claim that I desperately need an Elden Ring Nightreign anime.

It has now been almost a full year since Alien: Romulus was released, and fans are no doubt hungry for a sequel.
According to actor David Jonsson, who played the android known as Andy in the film, the second movie is likely to begin shooting soon. Jonsson was quoted as saying the following on the Post Cred Pod when he was asked directly if principal photography would begin this year, as reported by ComingSoon.net:
“I can’t share [very much], but I will say I don’t think you’re far off — your sources have something to them.”

The Alien franchise is all set to break new ground with Alien: Earth, the first live-action TV series set in its iconic xenomorph-bursting universe. It is set two years before the 1979 film, Alien, and takes place on Earth instead of a ship journeying through space. The show will explore a dystopian Earth controlled by mega-corporations where alien threats and synthetic life will collide.
Created by Noah Hawley and executive produced by Ridley Scott, this Hulu and FX original will introduce a new crew to the acid-blood creatures. This show is set to deliver the same seat-gripping horror that audiences have come to expect from the franchise, but with a better exploration of corporate greed, artificial intelligence, and more.
Expect more of what you saw in the opening scenes of the Cailee Spaeny starrer Alien: Romulus, but for multiple episodes and with the titular aliens. The release date is set, and...

If you're a hardcore fan of video games, you've more than likely heard of the action role-playing game Elden Ring. In May 2025, a live-action movie adaptation of this hit video game was announced to be in the works, with Alex Garland attached as writer and director, and A24 and Bandai Namco serving as producers. Now, it looks like the project might have just found its next cast addition.
There's a rumor circulating that rising star Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus) may be cast in the Elden Ring movie, potentially as the character Melina, a key figure in the game. On July 24, film industry insider Jeff Sneider posted on X that Spaeny is in talks to join the live-action film.

There are some incredible developments happening with the Elden Ring adaptation. Not only will it be made by writer/director Alex Garland, who recently released Civil War, Warfare and reunited with Danny Boyle for 28 Years Later, but he will be doing it with A24. The indie studio is expanding as it dabbles in bigger-budget movies, like Civil War. Elden Ring is a popular video game property with an opportunity for a franchise, so this film is expected to be the most expensive film that A24 will produce to date. The price tag may also have played a factor in why the studio went to Garland with the project.
The Insneider reporter, Jeff Sneider, is now saying that Garland is possibly going to reunite with his Civil War star Cailee Spaeny to sign on to Elden Ring. Spaeny and Garland have collaborated a couple of times on the FX series Devs,...

Disney and 20th Century Studios released a new trailer for the upcoming "Predator: Badlands" today, and it offered up a much more thorough look at director Dan Trachtenberg's live-action follow-up to 2022's much-acclaimed "Prey." While that movie took things back to the distant past, this new entry in the franchise will take us deep into the future. It also, very evidently, is going to deliver a big sci-fi crossover, possibly even building out a new cinematic universe. Get ready for a new "Alien"/"Predator" shared universe.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that her eyes featured a Weyland-Yutani logo, referencing the company that produces androids in the "Alien" universe. "In the moment, it's a complicated chain of reactions to it. It never feels good to have anybody coming after you on the internet, and especially coming after you saying things that I think I very much do not agree with about a thing I made and put a lot of heart and soul into," Johnson said.
"At the same time, having grown up a Star Wars fan ultimately let me contextualize it and feel at peace with it in many different ways," Johnson continued. "Just remembering, going back on one level to arguing on the...

Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc is going back to genre beginnings with the next installment in the Knives Out universe, says writer-director Rian Johnson who teased a “gothic” tone for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in a sprawling Q&a published today, the two-time Oscar nominee described the tonal difference between 2022’s Glass Onion and the forthcoming threequel, releasing Dec. 12.
“It’s incredibly different from Glass Onion,” the multihyphenate said. “We put out a teaser trailer a month ago. It’s much more a Gothic, much more grounded tone. It’s more similar to the first one in that way. It kind of gets back to the real origins of the genre, which, predating [Agatha] Christie, go back to [Edgar Allan] Poe.”

The Opening Night Gala of the BFI London Film Festival is a coveted slot, usually reserved for the buzziest of buzzy movies in town. In recent years, we've seen the likes of Steve McQueen's Blitz, Emerald Fennell's Saltburn, and Jeymes Samuel's The Harder They Fall kick off the Big Smoke's annual cinematic celebration in style. And for the upcoming 69th edition of Lff, the BFI are really bringing out the big guns, as today they've announced that Rian Johnson's hotly anticipated Knives Out threequel Wake Up Dead Man will be heading to London — and partner cinemas around the UK — to make its international premiere at the fest.
Having previously screened Knives Out itself at London Film Festival and made its sequel, Glass Onion, the Opening Night Gala back in 2022, it doesn't take Benoit Blanc to deduce that the BFI — much like us — are big fans of...

Netflix is known to make massive investments in projects or concepts it believes have the potential to be successful, and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out film series seems to be its latest muse. The streamer isn’t just shifting how audiences experience mystery stories, but it seems to be building upon the world created by the 2019 film and transforming it into a sprawling franchise.
Following the success of the first film and its sequel, Glass Onion, the streaming giant recently revealed the third film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Reimagining the detective storytelling of the first film as serialized entertainment by building up connective tissues, the platform isn’t just crafting sequels but slowly scaling it into a franchise-level investment that people are yet to notice.

Don’t expect Sofia Coppola to jump on the horror movie bandwagon anytime soon. While speaking at a masterclass at the Biarritz’ Nouvelles Vagues Festival, Coppola said she “[doesn’t] really like violent films.”
“There’s so much gun violence in my country,” she said. “It’s really hard to see [those] movies. Old cowboys are cool, but just the way [violence] is overdone now is upsetting.”
Coppola, who flew from New York to be the guest of honor at the third edition of Nouvelles Vagues Festival in the picturesque south-western town of Biarritz, cited Martin Scorsese as a filmmaker whose movies have violence that serves a narrative purpose. “I love Scorsese, so there are moments for it,” she said, adding that “violent themes can be interesting or insinuating. But really, gory, not so much for me.”
The effortlessly chic Coppola also reminisced about her childhood, her early passion for fashion and photography, and...

As it did when it debuted in theaters earlier this year, Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza's Warfare dropped on streaming with a bang. The war thriller, which sort of underperformed at the box office but earned excellent reviews, beat a Denzel Washington blockbuster in its first two days of release on Prime Video. Featuring an ensemble cast of young male stars, Warfare was based on a real-life incident experienced by Mendoza, who served in the Iraq War. The movie made a little over $30 million worldwide against a reported budget of $20 million.
According to FlixPatrol, Warfare was the fourth-biggest film on Prime Video on June 18, whereas Washington's The Equalizer 3 had to settle for the eighth spot. The Prime Video charts were topped by The Accountant 2, which recently debuted on streaming after grossing over $100 million worldwide. High-brow film awards events like The Academy Awards and the Emmys always bring Hollywood’s tastiest milkshakes to the yard. However, while I enjoy a red carpet romp as much as the next cinephile, plenty of movies and television shows I’ve enjoyed throughout the year don’t get so much as a mention when the nominations come from parties that don’t tend to share my cinematic values. That’s why we’ve got JoBlo’s Golden Schmoes and celebrations like the fifth annual Critics Choice Super Awards! Today, the nominations for this year’s ceremony are making the rounds, with titles like Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts*, and HBO’s The Last of Us leading the pack.
Nominations for this year’s Critics Choice Super Awards cover a spectrum of genres, including superhero cinema, high-octane action, bleak dramas, mind-bending science-fiction, cerebral war drama, comedic action, spine-tingling horror, and more!

No two horror movie villains ever seemed more ideally suited for one another than the Predator and the Alien, the cinema’s greatest hunter and cinema’s deadliest beast.
Created by very different filmmakers in totally different decades, the idea that these two creatures co-existed stems from a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg in “Predator 2,” which briefly showed the head of the iconic Alien inside of a Predator’s trophy case. In the years to come they would share top billing in comic books, video games and eventually a couple of movies, to the extent that the two franchises now feel indelibly linked, even when new installments of each monster’s movie makes no mention of the other.
Let’s take a look at both series, together, to see how the films stack up individually and as a unit.

Marvel's "Thunderbolts" is the rare MCU movie to truly be about something, and that something is mental health. Among the many tormented characters in the film, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Bob Reynolds (Lewis Pullman) are the clearest examples of a struggle with darkness. Yelena is dealing with a metaphorical inner void caused by her Black Widow upbringing, assassin career, and personal losses. Bob's Void, on the other hand, is capitalized — an inner darkness manifest, cultivated by a lifetime of bad cards and wrong turns, and made to bloom by Valeria Allegra de Fontaine's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) shady superhero experiments.
The multi-faceted masterwork that is Bob/The Sentry/The Void might be many fans' first exposure to Pullman's talents, but he's already worked in many interesting projects before "Thunderbolts*," from appearing as Lt. Bob Floyd in "Top Gun: Maverick" to playing Rhett Abbott in the Prime Video drama "Outer Range." As...
