Alien: Earth's first two episodes are about to drop, and Noah Hawley and lead star Sydney Chandler have just revealed the major inspiration behind the show's lead character. Created by the Fargo vet, it marks the first TV show in the Alien franchise, being set two years prior to Ridley Scott's original movie.

The series will focus on a disparate group of soldiers investigating the crash of a spacecraft on Earth, which was housing a series of extraterrestrial species. On Thursday, the Critics Choice Association (Cca) revealed the winners of the awards show that celebrates fan-favorite movies and TV shows in superhero, sci-fi/fantasy, horror, and action genres.

HBO's The Penguin was the biggest winner, dominating all four categories for which it was nominated: Best Superhero Program, Colin Farrell for both Best Actor and Best Villain, and Cristin Milioti for Best Actress. This news comes about a month before the 2025 Emmys, where The Penguin is nominated for a whopping 24 awards.

Four movies tied for the most wins at two apiece: Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Sinners. Rian Johnson will receive the Bill Wittliff Award for Screenwriting at this year’s Austin Film Festival. Johnson is set to receive the award during the 2025 Writers Conference. The conference will take place from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26.

It has now been almost a full year since Alien: Romulus was released, and fans are no doubt hungry for a sequel.

According to actor David Jonsson, who played the android known as Andy in the film, the second movie is likely to begin shooting soon. Jonsson was quoted as saying the following on the Post Cred Pod when he was asked directly if principal photography would begin this year, as reported by ComingSoon.net:

“I can’t share [very much], but I will say I don’t think you’re far off — your sources have something to them.”

Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will make its international premiere as the opening film of the 69th BFI London Film Festival, running from October 8 to 19.

It marks a return to the festival for Johnson’s murder mystery franchise after the original 2019 movie played in a gala screening at the 63rd edition in 2019, and the second instalment Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery closed the 66th edition in 2022.

“We’re honoured to be opening the BFI London Film Festival with Wake Up Dead Man. London is the birthplace of the golden age of detective fiction and it’s a thrill to be back!,” said Johnson.

The 69th BFI London Film Festival (Lff) will open with the international premiere of Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on Wednesday, October 8.

The Netflix title will play as the opening night gala at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, as well as in partner cinemas around the UK.

“The film features incredible British and international talent on and off screen who bring a sense of play and verve to the screen, to craft a film that twists, turns and will keep audiences guessing to the final frame,” said Lff director Kristy Matheson.

No two horror movie villains ever seemed more ideally suited for one another than the Predator and the Alien, the cinema’s greatest hunter and cinema’s deadliest beast.

Created by very different filmmakers in totally different decades, the idea that these two creatures co-existed stems from a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg in “Predator 2,” which briefly showed the head of the iconic Alien inside of a Predator’s trophy case.
