Finding another hit with her newest television series, Smallville star Kristin Kreuk will return for another season of Murder in a Small Town.

Per Deadline, it has been revealed that Murder in a Small Town has been renewed by Fox for Season 2. Fortunately for the series, it fell under the new "cost-effective international content strategy" at the network, helping to secure the renewal. The show reportedly costs less than $1 million per episode for network-quality content, and better yet, it garnered high viewership. Murder in a Small Town reportedly ranks among the Top 3 new shows for Fox series on Hulu, as well as for all Fox content from the 2024-25 television season. The pilot episode alone drew 11 million viewers to date across platforms.

This is Fox’s first renewal of live-action scripted TV show for the 2025-26 season, via THR.

The series, produced by Sepia Films in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, also airs on Canada’s Global networks. Season one’s eight-episode run concluded in November.

Of all the superheroes (and supervillains) in "The Boys," Black Noir has always been the most mysterious. He spent the first two seasons as a silent, ominous figure; he never tried to help our main characters out, but he also didn't seem particularly sadistic either. He was nice to kids, non-abusive to his Vought underlings, and had a humanizing almond allergy. He also stayed under a mask the whole time, making audiences curious as to what his face looked like underneath.

Season 3 finally answered this mystery, with a flashback to the '80s where we saw Noir in his early crime-fighting days. Here, Noir was portrayed by Fritzy-Klevans Destine, seen in the left picture below. The reason for Black Noir staying behind a mask throughout the whole show so far was answered in the same episode: he suffered a pretty gruesome injury that damaged his face.

It’s a mini Smallville reunion on Fox’s Murder in a Small Town episode four. “Prized Possessions,” which is set to air on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 8pm Et/Pt, reunites Smallville‘s Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance).

With most big TV shows, there's usually at least one ironic example of an actor who auditioned for a totally different role than what they got. Jeremy Strong initially tried out for the role of Roman Roy on "Succession," for instance, and Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men" originally auditioned for the role of Peggy, then Midge, before landing on Joan. A similar situation happened on "The Boys" for Black Noir's actor Nathan Mitchell. Nathan Mitchell brought two unique versions of Black Noir to life, adding personalized quirks that make each character memorable. Mitchell's sleeping habits inspired Black Noir's narcolepsy, showcasing his real-life influence on the character's development. The original Black Noir's nut allergy, inspired by Mitchell's real allergy, added depth and vulnerability to the deadly assassin.

Despite The Boys having two versions of Black Noir, Nathan Mitchell has portrayed both characters while also inspiring each of their biggest weaknesses. Black Noir was first introduced to the show in season 1 as a silent and deadly member of The Seven, becoming a fan favorite despite his evil acts. Nathan Mitchell's original Black Noir never removed his mask and was completely silent during the first three seasons, other than during a flashback scene where Fritzy-Klevans Destine depicted the supe. A long time ago, Noir was on the superhero team Payback, led by the thuggish Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) — basically Captain America with a realistic outlook for an early 20th century white man. Noir helped bury Soldier Boy, but in "The Boys" season 3, Johnny came marching home and looking for payback.

The trailer of season 4 of The Boys saw many surprises, including a return from Black Noir. The iconic character was killed at the end of season 3 by the Homelander for not telling him about his father. However, the new season sees the silent, masked hero returning to fight Billy the Butcher and the gang in an action-packed scene.

The trailer sees a hand-to-hand combat between Butcher and Black Noir at an office. While fans were excited to see Black Noir returning, they were greeted with an appearance from Gen V’s Asa Germann, who plays Sam Riordan. This sparked a fan theory that Riordan would don the Black Noir suit in the upcoming season.

While one major character was killed off in the third season finale for The Boys, the actor who played him will still be back in Season 4.

Per Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke recently addressed the death of Black Noir in the Season 3 finale. In the episode, the Supe is killed by Homelander (Antony Starr) due to secrets Black Noir had been keeping from him about Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The character's demise would normally suggest that actor Nathan Mitchell would now be wrapped up with the show, but the benefit to keeping him masked all throughout has left the door open for him to return as a similar but different character. Notably, Fritzy-Klevans Destine played the unmasked Noir while Mitchell was always the masked version in the suit.

The Boys actor Nathan Mitchell says his Black Noir costume left him bedridden once after shooting. Mitchell has portrayed the silent, ninja-like character Black Noir, a member of the superhero teamed owned by Vought International known as The Seven, for all three seasons of The Boys.
