Initially, Murder in a Small Town began as a two-hour movie thirty years ago. Over the years, it grew into a combined series between Canada and Fox TV.
Murder in a Small Town Season 1 had its ups and downs as it tried to find its footing and establish itself as a murder mystery procedural.
While we think the series would have benefited from more episodes, it only had eight, so it’s time to rank and review its most memorable and least satisfying series moments.
Best Episode: Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 1 ( Kailey Schwerman/ Fox)
Maybe selecting Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 1 was a cop-out. However, having an extra thirty minutes helped flesh out the stories and introduce viewers to the heart of the series: Karl and Cassandra’s romance.

This post contains spoilers for "The Boys" seasons 3 and 4.
Of all the superheroes (and supervillains) in "The Boys," Black Noir has always been the most mysterious. He spent the first two seasons as a silent, ominous figure; he never tried to help our main characters out, but he also didn't seem particularly sadistic either. He was nice to kids, non-abusive to his Vought underlings, and had a humanizing almond allergy. He also stayed under a mask the whole time, making audiences curious as to what his face looked like underneath.
Season 3 finally answered this mystery, with a flashback to the '80s where we saw Noir in his early crime-fighting days. Here, Noir was portrayed by Fritzy-Klevans Destine, seen in the left picture below. The reason for Black Noir staying behind a mask throughout the whole show so far was answered in the same episode: he suffered a pretty gruesome injury that damaged his face.

“Murder in a Small Town” is part romance, part crime procedural and all kinds of small-town cozy in between. Starring Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”) and Rossif Sutherland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), the new Fox drama transports viewers to the quiet coastal Canadian town of Gibsons and feels like the TV-ification of the “cozy mystery” trend that’s been so popular in online book communities in recent years.

With most big TV shows, there's usually at least one ironic example of an actor who auditioned for a totally different role than what they got. Jeremy Strong initially tried out for the role of Roman Roy on "Succession," for instance, and Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men" originally auditioned for the role of Peggy, then Midge, before landing on Joan. A similar situation happened on "The Boys" for Black Noir's actor Nathan Mitchell. Before being cast as the mysterious, silent, always-masked Black Noir, he tried out for the Deep. As Mitchell explained to The Hollywood Reporter:
"I thought, 'It would really be cool if I got to do this show. But this probably isn't going to happen, whatever.' I sent [an audition tape] in and didn't hear anything back. Then I went on vacation with my family. Even though it was a great time, I couldn't shake the feeling that I...

Nathan Mitchell brought two unique versions of Black Noir to life, adding personalized quirks that make each character memorable. Mitchell's sleeping habits inspired Black Noir's narcolepsy, showcasing his real-life influence on the character's development. The original Black Noir's nut allergy, inspired by Mitchell's real allergy, added depth and vulnerability to the deadly assassin.
Despite The Boys having two versions of Black Noir, Nathan Mitchell has portrayed both characters while also inspiring each of their biggest weaknesses. Black Noir was first introduced to the show in season 1 as a silent and deadly member of The Seven, becoming a fan favorite despite his evil acts. Nathan Mitchell's original Black Noir never removed his mask and was completely silent during the first three seasons, other than during a flashback scene where Fritzy-Klevans Destine depicted the supe. Mitchell's dedication to the character made Noir incredibly memorable, adding to how hilarious his replacement is.

Nathan Mitchell has played The Boys' Black Noir since day one, but he managed to find key distinctions in how the new incarnation compares to the original.
"We talked a little bit about Old Noir, but the focus was really on where he was in the present," Mitchell told Entertainment Weekly about juxtaposing the two Noirs in season 4 and playing up New Noir as a struggling performer. As he explained, the current incarnation "is from Godolkin [the supe college from spinoff series Gen V]. He's this actor who has never had the success that he's wanted to have. He's made some progress he's done Cirque du Vought [a parody of Cirque du Soleil] but his career isn't really where he wants it to be. Then all of a sudden this opportunity comes about. He is like, 'What else am I doing?' So he jumps in and realizes it's more than he bargained for." Mitchell also spoke about the in-universe audition tape he filmed as New Noir,...

Canadian dramas like Saving Hope, Broadchurch, or Burden of Truth often have a certain flair.
Fox acquired the US rights to Murder in Small Town, which looks intriguing. It stars Kristen Kruek and Rossif Sutherland.
Many of us grew up watching Kruek on TV, and she's played several types of roles.
However, since she played Joanna Chang in Burden of Truth, it appears she's ideal for crime-solving in small towns.
Check out everything we know so far about Murder in a Small Town.

Spoilers for the first three premiere episodes of "The Boys" season 4 follow.
When "The Boys" season 4 begins, The Seven (a superhero team and Homelander's (Antony Starr) crony squad) is down to just The Four. Starlight (Erin Moriarty) quit for good last season, Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) is presumed dead, and the seventh slot is like a rotating door of short-lived supes. Aside from Homelander, The Seven is now just A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). Wait, what?!
Black Noir met his end in "The Boys" season 3 finale, "The Instant White Hot Wild." A long time ago, Noir was on the superhero team Payback, led by the thuggish Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) — basically Captain America with a realistic outlook for an early 20th century white man. Noir helped bury Soldier Boy, but in "The Boys" season 3, Johnny came marching home and looking for payback.

The trailer of season 4 of The Boys saw many surprises, including a return from Black Noir. The iconic character was killed at the end of season 3 by the Homelander for not telling him about his father. However, the new season sees the silent, masked hero returning to fight Billy the Butcher and the gang in an action-packed scene.
The trailer sees a hand-to-hand combat between Butcher and Black Noir at an office. While fans were excited to see Black Noir returning, they were greeted with an appearance from Gen V’s Asa Germann, who plays Sam Riordan. This sparked a fan theory that Riordan would don the Black Noir suit in the upcoming season.

This story contains spoilers for Season 3 of The Boys.
While one major character was killed off in the third season finale for The Boys, the actor who played him will still be back in Season 4.
Per Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke recently addressed the death of Black Noir in the Season 3 finale. In the episode, the Supe is killed by Homelander (Antony Starr) due to secrets Black Noir had been keeping from him about Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The character's demise would normally suggest that actor Nathan Mitchell would now be wrapped up with the show, but the benefit to keeping him masked all throughout has left the door open for him to return as a similar but different character. Notably, Fritzy-Klevans Destine played the unmasked Noir while Mitchell was always the masked version in the suit.

Unfortunately, "The Boys" aren't going to be back in town anytime soon thanks to the ongoing strikes by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA and their ongoing fight to urge studios to give artists a fair deal. Season 4 of the R-rated superhero sendup has been pushed back from an expected release in early 2024 and, as of now, has no official release date. Over the course of three outlandish seasons, fans of the hit Prime Video series and Garth Ennis' original graphic novel can't help but notice how much the show tends to deviate from some of the major plot lines of the comic book.
For the most part, it's been a welcome curveball that keeps the series feeling fresh and unpredictable, allowing for even more of the jaw-dropping moments that have helped define the show as one of the most biting satires of the superhero genre. Adapting some of the more outlandish...

This post contains spoilers for "The Boys" season 3, as well as for the comics.
If you've watched the season 3 finale of "The Boys," you might be a little confused by the headline of this piece. The show killed Black Noir off, after all — pretty definitively, it seemed — so where else could they possibly go with him?
But if we know anything about the corporation behind the Seven, it's that they always like to downplay the damage the team has gone through over the years. When Translucent died back in early season 1, Vought kept it hidden from the public for months. And when Supersonic was murdered by Homelander in season 3, they passed it off as an overdose. Of all the supe deaths in the series, Black Noir is probably the easiest for Vought to downplay, because the guy wore a mask in public at all times. They can easily just put...

The Boys actor Nathan Mitchell says his Black Noir costume left him bedridden once after shooting. Mitchell has portrayed the silent, ninja-like character Black Noir, a member of the superhero teamed owned by Vought International known as The Seven, for all three seasons of The Boys. While the actor plays the Black Noir beneath the mask in the present, he was not shown as the face of the character when his backstory, set in the 1980s, was shown in season 3 with Fritzy-Klevans Destine playing his younger self.
During a conversation with The Movie Dweeb, Mitchell discusses the pros and cons of Black Noir's costume in The Boys, expressing his appreciation to costume design team Lj Supersuits for successfully creating a superhero suit that is both "aesthetically pleasing" and "comfortable." In terms of downsides, the actor explains that "there's a compression" component to the Black Noir suit, which "slowly presses down...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed,” the July 1 episode of “The Boys.”
The penultimate episode of “The Boys” Season 3 revealed Black Noir’s (Nathan Mitchell) back story with Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) in the cutest, and somehow still goriest, way possible.
During Episode 7, Noir is in hiding at an abandoned children’s restaurant called Buster Beaver’s after running off from Vought Tower upon learning that Soldier Boy is still alive. Noir does not tell anyone, including his best buddy and captain Homelander (Antony Starr), where he went and is living there in seclusion — while joined by several imaginary cartoon friends.
