Whoopi Goldberg, Teri Hatcher, Kevin Kline, Elisabeth Shue, Robert Downey Jr., and Sally Field in Soapdish (1991)
It's always a surprise to find out more people aren't familiar with the 1991 comedy "Soapdish," a ridiculously soapy laugh-riot with constant zingers running at the speed of something like "Clue." In their continued effort to breathe new life into original properties, Paramount+ has announced a remake of the film as a TV series, with Whoopi Goldberg returning as Rose, head writer for the celebrated soap opera, "The Sun Also Sets."

The series comes from Jennie Snyder Urman and up-and-coming writer Asha Michelle Wilson. The original film featured an all-star cast...

Soapdish Series in Development at Paramount+, Among First Projects Born of CBS/NAACP Partnership
Image
The NAACP’s year-old production venture with CBS Studios has born its first fruit in the form of five sold projects — including a series adaptation of Soapdish, with Whoopi Goldberg set to reprise her role from the 1991 feature comedy.

“The current political and societal landscape demand that we expand the voices, contexts, and visibility of artists producing content around the African American experience,” NAACP president Derrick Johnson said in a statement. “The projects stemming from the NAACP partnership with CBS Studios (led by Sheila Ducksworth) will continue to push the boundaries on the variety of stories available to audiences.”

NAACP-CBS Venture Sets Slate: ‘Soapdish’ Series With Whoopi Goldberg, Comedies Starring Dl Hughley & Earthquake, Little Rock Nine Limited Series & More
Image
A year after NAACP’s production partnership with CBS Studios formally launched with the hire of Sheila Ducksworth as President, the venture has sold its first projects. The five shows — spanning platforms (broadcast and streaming) and genres, include a reboot of cult 1991 movie Soapdish for Paramount+, with original co-star Whoopi Goldberg reprising her role and Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman co-writing the dramedy adaptation.

Goldberg is one of three top comedians attached to star in NAACP-cbs Studios projects, with D.L. Hughley and Earthquake set to headline autobiographical comedy series in the works at Fox and CBS, respectively.

Real people and events are the inspiration behind two dramatic projects, a limited series at Apple TV+ with Kapital Entertainment, which tells the story of the courageous Little Rock 9 Black students who helped end school segregation in the South, and drama Construction at Paramount+, inspired by...

American Horror Story: Apocalypse Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Fire and Reign
Time travel, machine gun arms and a meeting with the Illuminati highlight a jam-packed American Horror Story.

This American Horror Story: Apocalypse review contains spoilers.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse Season 8 Episode 9

One of the complaints about Coven was the lack of stakes. After all, this was a show in which people were brought back from the dead, and without death, was there any real risk for the witches? Not especially, though being banished to Hell for failing the Supreme test was pretty unpleasant for those involved. Still, when death isn't permanent, does it really matter if you get poisoned, stabbed, or shot up by the cyborg partner of the Antichrist? It doesn't.

Unfortunately for the coven, Michael Langdon has the secret of final death at his disposal, and no amount of witchery can bring back that which has been erased from existence. So, as it turns out, Michael's invasion of...

American Horror Story Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Fire and Reign
Don't ask for answers unless you are truly ready for them.

Then again, when is anyone ready for the answer to be The Illuminati? Suddenly conspiracy theories are being pulled up by everyone again, looking for signs of how TV is actually mimicking reality.

During American Horror Story Season 8 Episode 9, Michael gets the guidance he needs to figure out what his purpose is now as the Anti Christ. This help comes from an unconventional place, leaving us to wonder if Michael is really that gullible or if he is playing the long game.

Meanwhile, Cordelia and the others attempt one last ditch effort to stop Michael. Unfortunately, it doesn't work, but they almost die trying to go back in time. Now they are stuck knowing the end is near, without any real options to stop it and at a loss of many of their witches.

"Fire and Reign," was written...
