Juliet & Romeo Review: When Swordplay and Song Collide
JULIET & ROMEO, The Franchise Begins
Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.

Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.

That pivot from tragedy to hopeful extravaganza, capped by a “Book Two” tease, invites reflection on why...

‘Friendship’ Comedy Bromance With Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd Selling Tickets And Hats – Specialty Preview
Image
Limited opening per screen averages remain challenged even as the studio wide release landscape surges, but there’s a promising new entrant this week in Friendship, the A24 comedy opening on six screens.

The directorial debut of writer-director Andrew DeYoung stars I Think You Should Leave comedian Tim Robinson in his first major on-screen appearance. Early screenings in New York and L.A. have sold out, along with thousands of hats reading ‘Male Friendship’, the latest merch to hit the distributor’s shopping vertical and sell out. The former SNL performer and writer’s cringey cult hit has had three seasons on Netflix.

Friendship, which premiered at SXSW, is at 92% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Deadline’s review calls it a hilarious and “anxiety-inducing dark bromance” where suburban dad Craig (Robinson) falls hard for his charismatic new neighbor (Paul Rudd), but Craig’s attempts to make an adult male friend...

"A Very Different Take": 'Juliet & Romeo' Trailer Delivers a Spectacular Fusion of Pop Music and Shakesperean Romance [Exclusive]
Image
The city of Verona is about to be filled with pop music this summer with the release of Juliet & Romeo, and yes, you read those names in the right order. A new spin on William Shakespeare's legendary tale of love and tragedy is coming soon from director Timothy Scott Bogart, taking direct inspiration from the same 1301 tale that spurred the Bard to craft the most famous lovers in all of fiction. It'll see Juliet and her Romeo, played by Black Mirror's Clara Rugaard and The Last Supper's Jamie Ward, respectively, not just defying the long-standing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets but the very conventions of Shakespeare's timeless story. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies, we can share the official trailer for the musical film along with a conversation with the director, teasing the star-crossed romance ahead.

From the very beginning of the trailer,...

“When my mother gave me my first camcorder… a despot was born”: What Elizabeth Hurley’s Son Damian Made Her Do to Hugh Grant is Diabolical
Image
Actress Elizabeth Hurley has working in the industry since the late 1980s. Initially gaining notoriety as High Grant’s girlfriend, Hurley soon found herself in the spotlight with movies like Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and Bedazzled (2000). She was also seen in TV shows like Gossip Girl and The Royals.

Hurley is mother to model and actor Damian Hurley, whom she had after a brief affair with American businessman Steve Bing.

Her son, 22, is now dipping his toes in the directing pool with his debut movie, Strictly Confidential, starring his mother in the lead. The movie was released earlier this month, but it was years before now, that the Hollywood virus entered Damian.

‘Strictly Confidential’ Review: Makeout Scenes and Flimsy Melodrama on a Caribbean Isle
Image
“Some secrets are meant to stay buried” says the ad line for “Strictly Confidential.” But you’d need a sizable underground bunker to contain all the effortfully shocking revelations sprung in this very silly sudser, which starts out looking like an erotic thriller-mystery, then descends into a series of flashback-laden explication monologues more apt for “Dynasty” than Agatha Christie.

Damian Hurley’s directorial feature, with famous mum Elizabeth top-billed and producing, provides several hardbodied younger performers opportunity to model clothes and approximate recognizable human emotions on the coastline of tax haven island nation Saint Kitts and Nevis. But what was likely an enjoyable working Caribbean vacation for cast and crew proves somewhat labored for viewers. Nonetheless, watched in the right spirit, with appropriate libations, it could prove quite entertaining … if not in the way presumably intended. Lionsgate is releasing to U.S. theaters, digital and on-demand platforms on April 5.

Nicole Kidman & Tom Cruise’s Daughter, Bella Cruise, Shares Rare Selfie Amid Rift With Her Mom
Image
Isabella “Bella” Kidman Cruise, daughter of Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, posted a rare selfie on her Instagram story.

“What a summer,” Bella captioned her selfie. In it, Bella wore a white top with lace trimmings and a small white bow, while she accessorized with several layers of necklaces and a nose ring to match.

Bella, 30, was adopted by Nicole and Tom in 1992 and is one of the only two children the former couple share. The Golden Globe winners adopted Bella’s brother, Connor, 28, three years later.

Tom and Nicole were married for 11 years. When they got a divorce in 2001, both children went to live with their father and, today, reportedly have a strained relationship with their mother.

Nicole has yet to lose hope in reuniting with her two eldest, though, as she reportedly invited them to celebrate with her for being presented with the AFI Life Achievement Awards, the...

With an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and six Golden Globe Awards to her name, Nicole Kidman is no stranger to winning big, but it's safe to say that her children are her most prized possessions. In 2018, when Kidman took home a Golden Globe Award for best actress in a limited series or TV movie for her role in "Big Little Lies," she gave a moving speech about the power of women in light of the Time's Up movement to end sexual harassment and gender inequality. She also gave a sweet shout-out to her two daughters with husband Keith Urban, Sunday and Faith, joking that they can actually watch her since she won the first award of the night. "This means my daughters are still awake, so, Sunny and Faith, I love you," she said at the time. "I'm bringing this home to you, babies!"

‘Vampire Academy,’ From ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Team, Embraces Grand Mythos and Cheesy Tropes Equally: TV Review
Image
To (extremely) paraphrase Benjamin Franklin: nothing is certain in storytelling but love, death, and vampires combining the two. In the last 30 years, give or take a “True Blood,” some of TV’s most popular interpretations of one of the world’s eldest mythic creatures have tended to lean toward the teenaged variety, whether plucky and battle-scarred (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) or moody and yearning (“The Vampire Diaries”). Now, Peacock’s “Vampire Academy,” from “Vampire Diaries” co-creator Julie Plec and “The Originals” producer Marguerite MacIntyre, combines all the above into one package that ends up intriguing enough, if also unavoidably cheesy in its attempts to stand out amongst the fray.

With the help of a somber, blunt opening explanation, the series immediately throws us into a centuries-old society of three co-existing vampire species: the magic “Moroi” aristocrats, the half-Moroi, half-human “Dhampir” tasked with protecting them, and the feral “Strogoi,” more zombie than vampire,...
