Tara Fitzgerald praises ‘poeticism’ of Pascal Bargamin
Tara Fitzgerald loved the “poeticism” of 'Portraits of Dangerous Women' director Pascal Bargamin. The 57-year-old actress plays Tina in the Swiss filmmaker’s comedy drama film about three women - school caretaker Tina, unhappy teacher Steph (Jeany Spark) and smart teenager Ashley (Yasmin Monet Prince) - who are thrown together when two of them both run over a dog in their separate cars and she admitted the helmsman’s passion and connection with his cast was one of the reasons why she said yes to the project. She exclusively told Bang Showbiz: “He’s very passionate. Super smart. He has a sort of poeticism and sort of understands artists. “I think that’s a very big draw about the film - it talks about artists. I think it’s a very important part of my life. And he has that sensitivity. “But he’s also really good at...

Portraits of Dangerous Women Review: A Heartfelt Exploration of Female Bonds
Image
Portraits of Dangerous Women transports viewers to a strange narrative realm that questions established storytelling conventions. The film, directed by Swiss filmmaker Pascal Bergamin, revolves around an unpleasant road event involving a dog that brings together three women: an unhappy teacher, a strange caretaker, and a troubled artist. This arrangement feels fanciful and perplexing, reminiscent of Jean-Luc Godard’s humorous narrative technique.

Bergamin balances between hilarity and poignant moments, reflecting contemporary cultural fears about connection and authenticity. The cinematography captures the grandeur of rural Britain, while the editing incorporates jarring shifts that mirror the characters’ shattered lives. This unique design highlights the themes of disconnection and unexpected friendship in the film.

Finally, Portraits of Dangerous Women bridges the gap between indie and mainstream cinema, providing a new viewpoint on how we relate to one another in an unpredictable world. It is a reminder of the film’s ability to mirror societal complexities,...

'I really enjoyed lugging this dead dog...' Tara Fitzgerald opens up on new movie Portraits of Dangerous Women
Tara Fitzgerald enjoyed "lugging" a dead dog around for her role in new movie 'Portraits of Dangerous Women'.The 57-year-old actress plays Tina in Swiss filmmaker Pascal Bergamin's comedy drama film about three women - school caretaker Tina, unhappy teacher Steph (Jeany Spark) and smart teenager Ashley (Yasmin Monet Prince) - who are thrown together when Steph and Tina both runover a dog in their separate cars.Tara enjoyed shooting the comedy scenes with the prop pooch, assuring any viewers that "no animals were harmed at all in the making of this film".Speaking exclusively to Bang Showbiz, she said: "I really enjoyed lugging this dead dog. No animals were harmed at all in the making of this film, or even used. But I loved that sequence and they’re comic inability to sort of deal with the situation.“Tina, who has actually lived through some pretty heavy things,...

Portraits of Dangerous Women review – dog car crash sets off baffling and peculiar drama
Three unlikely women are pitched together by a muddled plot with results that are short on both drama and comedy

This bafflingly peculiar and lifeless dramedy comes from Swiss film-maker Pascal Bergamin, who is based in Zurich and London and has released some English-language work in the past. This film has a rural British setting with British characters played by British actors, but it has the feel of something Google-translated from another project, perhaps with a European setting; there is a repeated and weirdly emphatic reference to two art dealers from the German town of Cottbus, mysterious individuals who never appear on screen, and whose existence does not serve any satisfying or interesting purpose.

But that objection could be raised against every single character in the film. A strange – and strangely unconvincing – event brings three women together. Steph (Jeany Spark) is an unhappy teacher; Tina (Tara Fitzgerald) is a...

Supacell Ending Explained
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Supacell (2024)

Supacell's season 1 finale sets up an even better plot for season 2, revealing Victoria as the main antagonist. Michael's time travel powers can't save Dionne from a stray bullet, leading to her tragic death. The Hooded Figures, led by Krazy, are revealed to be a gang working for Ray and Victoria, who research superpowered people with sickle cell disease.

Although Supacell season 1s ending did wrap up the shows story perfectly, the finales many twists also set up an even better season 2 plot. Supacell is a British superhero series that arrived on Netflix in June 2024. The show follows a group of South Londoners who discover that they have developed mysterious superpowers and are being targeted by a group of Hooded figures. Supacells protagonist, Michael, is a delivery driver who can teleport and, with a lot of effort, has some limited access to time travel.

Is Netflix Supacell Based On A Superhero Comic Book Series?
Image
Supacell is an original creation by Rapman, not based on a comic book. The series draws inspiration from the history of realistic superhero stories, like Heroes and Misfits. Supacell's unique setting makes it as much of a love letter to South London as it is a love letter to the superhero genre.

Netflixs thrilling new superhero series Supacell is a unique and interesting twist on the genre but is it an original story or is it based on a comic book? Supacell is the brainchild of British hip-hop artist Rapman, who serves as the showrunner, creator, writer, and head director on the series. The story revolves around a group of seemingly regular South Londoners, each with a family history of sickle cell disease, who gain superpowers and work together to fight back against the secret organization that wants to control them.

The Supacell cast is led by Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo,...

Hanna Season 1 & 2 Recap: Explaining Utrax, Marissa, the Pioneers and the Hit List
Joel Kinnaman
When will shady organisations learn that if they’re going to breed a squadron of teen girl super soldiers, their range of genetic enhancements needs to include an off switch? Yes, teenagers can fly under the assassin radar, but rebellion is built in. Brainwashed or not, at some point your murder-optimised darling will turn on you and when she does, you’ll rue the day you made her quite such an efficient killing machine.

Hanna, Utrax, the forest, Erik and Marissa

Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), the sole surviving member of the 2003 Utrax generation of wolf-dna-enhanced babies, is the most efficient killing machine of all. She has every genetic improvement plus a lifetime of survival and combat training from former military man Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman). He was a Utrax recruiter who developed qualms about his job convincing vulnerable women to sign over their unborn babies for experimentation by the CIA.

‘Hanna’ Review: A Widened Scope Makes for a Stronger, Richer, and More Thrilling Season 2
Image
Season 2 of “Hanna” is brighter than the first. The show that once tracked its title character (Esmé Creed-Miles) through the Romanian wilderness and in grungy hideouts arrives with a renewed sense of purpose in a fresh set of locations. Sterile interrogation rooms give way more angular holding cells. The stereotypical brainwash aesthetics that popped up as the net of the show’s main conspiracy? In this new season, they give way to pastoral walks and Mediterranean destinations, each with their fair share of pastels.

It’s not just the changing color palette or the extra dose of sun that makes Season 2 such a marked improvement. It’s the other elements of this tangled espionage narrative that makes those changes necessary. The program that led to Hanna’s kidnapping in the first place, largely a whisper until the opening season’s climactic blowout, is now front and center. Set in an idyllic rural English castle,...

Hanna Season 2 Preview: Back Into the Fire
Yasmin Monet Prince
It's almost time for Hanna to emerge from a Romanian forest.

Viewers worldwide fell hard for the heroine of the Amazon Prime Video action series, which returns for its eight-episode second season on Friday, July 3.

Hanna, played by Esme Creed-Miles, is part confused teen, part deadly living weapon.

Hanna Season 1 was all about Hanna finding out who she was.

Over the course of that season, Hanna discovered that Erik, the man who raised her, actually stole her as a baby from the top-secret Utrax Program, which trains girls from birth to become sleeper agents/assassins.

Late in that season, she returned to the Utrax facility, seeking to free the other trainees.

Aided surprisingly by Marissa, who had been hunting “father” and “daughter” for years, Hanna and Erik destroyed the facility, but Erik succumbed to his cumulative wounds and died. Clara was the only trainee that chose to leave with Hanna.

Watch the Mysterious Teaser for ‘Hanna’ Season 2
Yasmin Monet Prince
Fans of adolescent super soldiers rejoice - the new teaser for Season 2 of the Amazon Prime series Hanna just dropped on us unsuspecting viewers like a sleeper assassin. I stand by this metaphor. The trailer is brief, showing Hanna (Esmé Creed-Miles) making her way through the Utrax facility, presumably to free more genetically-modified teens and/or seriously trash the place. At the end of last season, Hanna had already convinced one soldier, Clara (Yasmin Monet Prince), to leave with her, but her surrogate father Erik (Joel Kinnaman) died in the process. It’…...
